I love it as well! Since it's a reprise I've thought of it as showing how Veronica's progressed and grown up a bit. The first time we hear it (in Dead Girl Walking), she's afraid and running away from something, wanting protection, unable to deal with it. But here, she's grown so much since act 1 and though she's afraid, she's learning to protect herself and everyone else. She's gonna tackle the problem head on. That's how I played it at least.
She knew J.D. had to be stopped once and for all to save everyone else. So Veronica got ready to go to war, knowing that they might be joining Heather Chandler, Ram and Kurt if J.D. won.
Just need to add Carrie Hope Fletcher to this mix, she is killing it as Veronica on the West End at the Royal Haymarket, after a fab run at The Other Palace.
LizDani she has performed all throughout Australia, not on broadway and I think I remember the fact that she was my singing teacher for four years so please don’t try to tell me she wasn’t x
1:37 it’s so weird hearing her as Veronica. She’s one of my favorite Heather Chandlers. I feel like her vocal type is more like Veronica’s but her accent still sounds like Heather C. Her note was beautiful
NO WAY!!! I'm Michelle at 1:21 and I was super shocked and pleasantly surprised to see myself in a comparison video! I've been watching vids like this for so long and have always dreamed of being in one and you have seriously made my night!! For the record, in my production we did not have microphones, which is why its somewhat quiet. XD But thank you so much for including me!!! Every other Veronica is great too of course. I loved Kerri.
How in the world did you hit that note in front of an audience? I can only very occasionally get, and even then it’s nowhere near as impressive as yours! Any tips?
I'm kinda let down by some of these. Everyone's vocals are superb and they sound gorgeous. But this is a real emotional line. Some of them sound like they're just singing words and not actually listening to what they're saying. I'd rather a slightly rough sounding vocal line if it means they are putting in the effort to convince people they're actually feeling something. This is the part of the show when Veronica realises that she really fucked up and there's no going back. She literally says that she deserves to die and it doesn't make sense to me that people can sing that with so little emotion. But again they all sound gorgeous so props to them for performing a whole show and then hitting that ridiculous note.
Alia McBride omg yes I 100% agree with you! It’s such a powerful line that needs emotion in it! Well said. (Again respect for all the beautiful singers in this)
This just proves Barrett is the best Veronica, she hit the note with a bit of strain but the acting was on point, you can literally hear her worry and fear over having to face JD and her anger at herself for having been so esily manipulated into helping him previously.
Best note- Michelle Renee Harris - 1:21 Best acting- Kerri George- 3:51 Best overall- Barett Wilbert Weed - 0:20 (My opinion! Feel free to disagree just don't be rude)
What I like about Barrett is that she really puts a lot of emotion into her vocals. In Seventeen she sounds sweet, sad, and hopeful. In Dead Girl Walking Reprise she sounds raw and powerful, no longer having to rely on the heathers or jd to protect her from societal injustices, finally standing up for herself and what she knows is right. Barrett does such a great job portraying that, and it’s not just about hitting notes. When Barrett sings you can see it in her whole body, this is not just a sound coming out of her mouth but something that her whole being is participating in. That’s why although there are some other veronicas who have really amazing voices, I just feel like this role was MADE for Barrett and she SLAYS it.
Okay so heres my 4 faves. 1. Me, in the shower. 2. Barrett obvi 3. Hilary girl 4. Kerri George 5. illegal heathers duh so i think that i have the best rating chart or whatever.
EJ Callahan yup, first one I watched too so I’m a little biased haha. BUT the actors they chose are EXACTLY what I imagined the characters to look like.
Can you please do “Who Sang The IF YOU PAY YOU CAN STAAAAAAY in Say No To This better” Edit: OMG thanks for so many likes I’m actually surprised you knew what I was talking about 🤣
Barrett and Charissa are amazing as per usual lol but I gotta say I have a soft spot in my heart for Hayley Rosenthal, I LOVE that production of heathers and she's plain amazing in that show (as is JD! Everyone is really good but man do those two stand out)
While I love Barrett’s voice and her version of Veronica, it (apparently in an interview that I can’t find) was stated that Heathers actually damaged her voice. Also it’s clear that Charissa is definitely able to hit the higher notes easier than Barrett. Again love them both and wish there was more footage of Charissa as Veronica but yeah that’s my opinion.
Only a few people are really talking about it, but I just want to point out that Sydne (4:05) used the original Dead Girl Walking instrumental. It wasn't a bad attempt at showing emotion, spacing out the song for dramatic effect, or her trying to make the song her own. At the time there weren't any of the backing tracks we have on RU-vid now since it was 2016, and she herself said "I couldn't find a Karaoke track for the reprise and the normal karaoke fits the song, its the best I could do :)." So yeah, this is just me pointing out that the awkward part of it wasn't intentional and I personally don't find it fair to judge her performance based on it since it wasn't exactly her fault.
hayley rosenthal is my absolute favourite veronica and that whole production is the best version of heathers in my opinion, the whole thing is just perfect.
My top three are: 1) Michelle Renee Harris 2) Hayley Rosenthal 3) Haley Gustafson [ I think that's a F?] But those are my three favorite productions and I believe all three of those girls rocked it.
LittleBallOfGiggles you are so welcome! your voice is so beautiful and you have sooooo much talent. i can see you going far honestly. you will (most likely) forever be my favorite Veronica
Thank you. You are the best!!! The whole show is on my side channel (Michelle Renee) if you wanted it. I cant believe it you're so cool! I often feel really self conscious because I'm half brown, but it always earns a place in my heart if someone favors a performance of mine. ;u;
I just imagine at the "and there's your final bell" That if this was produced in a highscool or college they'd use the actual school bell That will be hilarious
Jesus i didn’t expect each and every one to be so freaking AMAZING each one of these girls has a ridiculous amount of talent and i feel bad comparing them because all of them were amazing, and they all deserve mad praise
I act like I know what these notes mean even though I don't know what it is or what it sounds like but I have a huge appreciation for the high notes and belting like FUCKK I kept rewinding the part where they belt and just appreciate it.
I like to think someone who doesn’t know the show would find this video and be curious as to why there are two nearly naked guys standing still behind her during her incredible vocal performance
i love how jaz realized either she couldnt hit the note or it would hurt her voice so she created a way out that still sounded amazing and saved her voice
