Laura Bell Bundy. Love her voice. Loved her on the Guilding Light Soap also. She had a great love story plot line. Me being such a romantic and all. Lol
Henry Anderson I’ve been thinking the same thing, it gives it a certain bite like she’s not playing, and then she went into her vibrato really early on into the note, to avoid any breaking I think. She definitely made the most of those unfortunate circumstances.
This song is *so hard.* Obviously there's the really long note at the end, but I think the hardest part (for me anyway, while singing it alone in a darkened room so I don't have to see my own incompetence) is the lead-up to it. You need control, you need to be belty, and you need to convey emotion; all while not sounding too pitchy or not hitting the right note. You go from high notes to low ones in a heartbeat, and I've even heard the queen LBB hit a note slightly off (she's still fantastic obviously no shade to LBB) and it's just really hard okay.
Same. I really would love to play Elle, even if it’s only for a community production. It’s one of my life goals to kill this song! I am actually really comfortable with my chest voice. It’s just the buildup to the last note and the last note itself that gets me.
Oh boy. So sad that was the only video captured of that song for me. I was sick indeed! Thanks for everyone who’s been backing me up! Rough night for sure! 😥😥😥 ALSO LBB FOR LIFE of course she is the best.
Laura hands down. some of the what seemed to be high school productions were rlly good tho! i did this show recently at school and our elle really fit the character. I think that's rlly hard to find. it is kinda awkward when the girl doesn't radiate elle. but props to people who have the guts to go for it in this song, no one said it was easy.
Haven't even watched half the video and I'm gonna say Laura, the note just suits her voice so much, it sounds melodic, on-key, and gives me chills mixed with the other voices
It’s so hard to say who’s “better” but like, Becky Gulsvig definitely needs some hype. She absolutely killed that note and totally embodies Elle’s spirit. She just had something extra to her body language and voice, something so characteristic of Elle. I’m obsessed! I keep rewatching
I've only seen this show live once and it was with Becky. At first I was disappointed that I had missed LBB by 2 years (2010) but Becky held her own AND made it her own. She won me over before the end of the first act. She was fantastic!
Qui Lon Ging she was in 8th grade when that was filmed and now she is a junior in high school and she still amazes me to this day with her talent and humbleness!
Pshhhhh I went to theater camp with her. Talented definitely. If by humble you mean 28 faces, you never know which one you're looking at and each one has something nasty to say about the previous ones "friend", all while bragging they're the greatest and untouchable, then humble too!
1. Laura Bell Bundy , always will be my favorite 2. Susan McFadden (never knew she was Elle at one point since I only know her from Celtic Woman) 3. Kerry Butler (no bias since we share the same first name) 4. Annaleigh Ashford 5. Bailey Hanks
Really appreciate Leanne Smith for going ahead and taking that final note up higher! Also yaaaas Lauren Zakrin! (For those who don’t know she’s also notable for being Natasha’s understudy in Great Comet since Off-Broadway)
this was the first musical that i was ever a part of and now im sitting in my room being all nostalgic and lowkey crying LOL thank god i found this channel my friends and i binge your musical comparison videos all the time thank you for being an icon
Similar experience. It’s the musical that made me realise this is what I want to do. Elle Woods was the best role I have ever played and I so want to play her again in the future.
I’ve been watching this channel a lot lately and definitely didn’t expect to see one of my high school productions in a video, needless to say I’m shook 3:20
LavendersLovelyLife I was on the crew :) I remember going around my hometown (Orlando) and putting up our posters in local shops. It was a great experience - especially the bit when you get to sit in the back row in all black and watch the play every day it’s running!
I always loved Laura because she played elle do well, but I think Becky did it the best, her voice is so pure and you can feel the energy just radiating off her and she just definitely spreads that excitement into the audience and I am in so much aw rn
She’s was actually a Korean idol so they used her for popularity sales because it brought it in her fans. But I definitely agree with you, if you watch the musical the dancers were basically just dancing around her and she was a prop.
I agree😬😬 But on a Scale of 1 to 100, I would give her performance a 6, Her end note a 57, And her acting a 10, it was Overall pretty good but Elle almost seemed Self-absorbed in Jessica’s performance. But other then that it was Pretty Amazing
I really enjoyed the foreign language versions. Your channel is one of my favorite on RU-vid. I can watch these Who sang it better videos over and over and still get chills from the amazing performances. You've also introduced me to many talented performers I didn't know and now I've got a ton of content to watch. Thank you for putting these together.
LBB for me, but I’m in awe at everyone tbh! Especially Tori that girl was so sick but still managed to deliver. But wow Jennifer Brady is underrated imo! She seems pretty young and her voice is so strong and clear and she even managed to get that gorgeous ring at the end holy shit! It’s so sad she didn’t get the chance to perform in a higher quality production.
Her take on Elle is definitely a little more sassy when she wants it to be but the videos of her don’t do it justice because based on a few of the mistakes she makes and her reactions she was probably either on for the first time as elle or last minute
I loooved Bailey's bc I watched when they picked a new elle for broadway when laura belle bundy stepped down and Bailey didn't have that killer last note at the audition and now she has it really strong and it's amazing!
I recently saw Lucie Jones perform it live, and she was absolutely incredible! Was definitely not expecting it from her but her voice was so gorgeous and her comedic timing was brilliant! (no one can do it better than Laura though)
I love that you include versions of different languages, some of them can be so much better (hehe) then the ones in English, and its good to hear the changes they make in different countrirs
Some people are putting down the other Elles (referring to the ones that aren’t Laura Bell Bundy) but I just have to say they all did absolutely amazing
Much as I *loved* seeing Sheridan Smith perform it the Savoy all those years ago, it’s hard to deny Kerry Butler her throne. And, of course, Laura pretty much defined the role. I just can’t decide!
I think most of the girls all do a great job but there's a level of energy that I think Haven, Lauren Zakrin, Becky, and Laura Bell bring to the role that is hard to match.
For some reason i will always be in love with Haven Burton in this roll i think her take on it is just so funny but also so powerful when she wants it to be
