Yeah this is what I've been saying. We are a rebuilding team so we have a ton of unknowns on the bench. Our starters know how to play a game, but our depth pieces don't.
I do understand why, because we're so slim at too many spots we need too see who can fill in and help, preseason gives canalas and ejerio a good look at what we have.

Teams like the Chiefs Texans and Bengals play their starters in preseason to get off to a fast start because at the end of the day they are all fighting for that AFC 1 seed. The Panthers don’t have that expectation and no one would blink an eye if we start off 1-3. i agree we should prioritize health and protecting BY and the new offense from potential injury.
I really liked the Dillon Johnson pickup. Seeing him be a physical runner that can find holes boosted his stock for me. I wouldn’t have a problem if he was RB 5 and we kept him on the roster. I also liked his post game interview saying how he had a chip on his shoulder because teams passed on him. Hopefully that motivation can take him a long way on this team.
I don’t really care if the starters play. Health is a priority for the season, and I think we need to evaluate our depth moreso and see if we have any players that can really contribute

We taking for granted Ejiro and his defense, y'all. Everyone basically knows his defense will be very solid. Not saying defense starters should play in the preseason or anything, just that the team is EXTREMELY fortunate to have Ejiro.
Dunc, thank u for sharing your take. We have to trust the process and be patient. The coaches need to see the nonstarters’ work during a game setting to help inform final decisions. We will get to see the final roster put in the work starting September 8.
If Wade can get it done on the outside, I’m all for it… I think that him being “undersized “ might and probably will have him play with a chip on his shoulder, and will have him playing out of his mind, and play bigger than his size.
They shouldn’t play in the preseason. It’s as simple as not getting any of your starters hurt…any reason beyond that is for selfish reasons. We need to evaluate our depth pieces because there is a pretty good chance we’ll see some of these guys play this year.
Dillon Johnson reminds me of Deshaun Foster. No matter what comes at them they just keep churning until the whistle blows. I think he will compliment Brooks very well.
Bro I said the same thing about ISM. And it hurts me to say cause I'm a big ISM fan. He just hasn't been put in situations where he can showcase his true ability.
Ppl saying Chau Smith Wade too small to play outside but hes the same size as Donte Jackson who played only outside. Ppl trying to put him in a box bc one draft guy said he cant play outside.
Think it has more to do with the athleticism as well. His lack of height shows up on film but a guy like Donte was super fast with great leaping ability to compensate. Chau played nickel at the Sr Bowl bc scouts asked him to projecting his future.
I feel good about the back ups we have seen play I feel good about the way dave and dan have not played the starters we have seen what we have on D and Off so we will see more the last preseason game im sure
Very easy for Canales to use health as the reason. No there is any data either way but real game snaps compared to controlled environment snaps just makes no sense.
I don't know anyone on this team. So sad to see so many former Panthers doing well all around the league after Tepper let them go for $ and draft picks for his wife. There will be no success in Carolina until Tepper is gone, he will liquidate for HIS bottom line any player with trade value.
