It should be mentioned Hadrian also insisted Antoninus adopt Lucius Verus and when the Senate to confirm MA as Emperor he insisted Lucius Verus be Co Emperor as per Hadrian's wishes much to the surprise of the Senate. His sense of duty outweighed any desire for sole power, a shock to all. By the way he wasn't the only good Emperor and listing Vespasian with Caligula and 'other monsters' is a bit unfair. Excuse my slight corrections, I really enjoy your videos :)

Apparently, Pax Romana included five ampers, which is to say, five previous emperors. So, you definitely are right in bringing up this point. And certainly Hadrian and Vespaceian would be two others.

FWIW, britannica's site states this at their bio page of MA: "Marcus’s choice of his only surviving son as his successor has always been viewed as a tragic paradox. Commodus (reigned as sole emperor 180-192) turned out badly, though two things must be borne in mind: emperors are good and bad in the ancient sources according as they did or did not satisfy the senatorial governing class, and Commodus’s rapid calling off of the northern campaigns may well have been wiser than his father’s obsessive and costly expansionism. But those who criticize Marcus for ensuring the accession of Commodus are usually under the misapprehension that Marcus was reverting to crude dynasticism after a long and successful period of 'philosophic' succession by the best available man. This is historically untenable. Marcus had no choice in the matter: if he had not made Commodus his successor, he would have had to order him to be put to death." Also, Donald Robertson has a much longer (and very interesting) article on the subject of why Marcus appointed his son Commodus as his successor: donaldrobertson.name/2018/01/19/why-did-marcus-aurelius-allow-commodus-to-succeed-him/

A beautiful quote! This is why the philosophical organization in Los Angeles that I joined at age 17 never advertised. When asked why, I was told that those who could resonate with the material provided will find it by a synchronistic process akin to harmonic resignation. The masses, of course, would reject it. Therefore, advertising made no sense. The meditations of Marcus Aurelius, for this same reason, will never be appreciated by those in power in Washington, in London, at the UN, at the Council of Foreign Relations, the IMF, the World Bank, the WHO or the UN.

Marcus Aurelius (father to Commodus!) was at times a wicked beast, who sought and slayed Christians. And you hold him up as a god? You know, Jesus was more a stoic than these killers. . . and his "story" is nothing shy of miraculous (whether you belive in his "godship" or not). You act as though Marcus was the founder of stoicism - hundreds of years prior, by Zenu. Marcus was simply another follower, strung out on opium, seeking to "dethrone" emotion from his governance. To become a stoic. How about pick a hero, who isn't akin to Nero?
