Mephibosheth, son of Jonathan and grandson of King Saul, had a life marked by tragedy from childhood. After the death of his grandfather, father and uncles, he became crippled and was taken to live in Lodebar, a place without many opportunities. Years later, King David, in memory of his friendship with Jonathan, rescued him from obscurity and honored him by offering him a place at the royal table and restoring his estates.
However, Mephibosheth was the victim of a betrayal by his servant, Ziba, during Absalom’s revolt. Falsely accused of treason, he lost his inheritance to Ziba. Even after proving his innocence before King David, he chose to give up his possessions in favor of the king’s safety and well-being. His story goes beyond the transition from poverty to prosperity, revealing a character of fidelity and self-denial in the face of the adversities and injustices of life.
