Also with Bisping, his snappy put downs for fighters during post fight octagon interviews has got to stop as well. Ricky Simon "I actually have been some ranked opponents but that's okay Bisping" Michael Bisping "YEAH BUT YOU ARENT RANKED ARE YA!"
@@drummerboy-qb8ir Imagine if this happens, "Ewell does not even know where his kid is. Ooooo out cold. Wow! Now Ewell does not even know where he himself is"
That’s his go to shill for an awful fight. Whenever he talks about it being a “technical” fight or a “chess match” it’s just him trying to convince fans they aren’t watching a boring fight
@@nicholasrizzo2156 oooo unbelievable! he's chewing up that leg. he can't take too many more of those. look at that bruising on the leg. just one more kick and he might be done! fight proceeds to go on for 4 more rounds.
At this point it’s literally just guttural noises and yelling UNBELIEVABLE. It’s insane how Rogan used to be so enjoyable to listen to. Since the Spotify deal, I’ve noticed a significant change in his commentary. He doesn’t research the fighters and just shills for whoever is the top draw. Even his podcast sucks now. He sold out when he was already worth 100+ million. Incredible.
Here in 2023 after Anik gave the GOAT call of “but that is not the cloth from which he is cut” in Leon Edwards v Kamaru Usman. Man’s worth his weight in gold as a commentator.
Despite not being the greatest sport for commentary in the eyes of many, it is for me. Having the CTE crew talk about fights in suits rather than just shorts is just so very funny and it will never stop being funny.
DC is quickly becoming Rogan tier with his constant need to start 'podcasting' on the mic and talk about everything but the fight. He couldn't even remember Sean Brady's name. Rogan soyfacing and overselling reactions is bad but at least he's trying to sell something, DC just immediately went on his cellphone after watching Dustin be submitted.
I agree with you that Rogan is over exaggerating his reactions. Overall I think MMA is light years behind other sports in terms of commentary. It's basically a yelling contest. I personally prefer more subdued commentators like Cruz and Felder
Boxing commentary and some baseball commentary is shit, Basketball commentary is good but arguably worse than mma's, MMA commentary is pretty good in comparison to other sports
@@seanc7990 Last boxing match I saw was Wilder/Fury 3. It was an action packed back and forth war yet the commentators were always giving great technical notes about Tyson's jabs and Wilder's body shots and stuff . It really elevated the fight for me because I could see details that I would have probably missed otherwise. Joe and DC would have probably been giggling the whole time and screaming "he's hurt" everytime someone threw a jab
The Jon Anik bit made me laugh so fucking hard!! "And his first born daughter has a shard of glass in her eye, and doctors arree worried!" 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
After all he went threw with the ufc letting ppl juice I'd say he deserves it lol he's not that bad either he's got a good voice but rambles quite a bit sometimes
Disagree a bit on bisping. I think he’s either very good or awful depending on the night. Very inconsistent but nowhere near as bad as Rogan is now. I watch old fights a lot and Rogan’s commentary from 10 years ago is like listening to a completely different person. He went from being informative and entertaining to literally just making guttural noises, yelling “he’s hurt” and screaming UNBELIEVABLE after every finish
Bisping does have an massive ego like haha when you watch him with the bt sport guys especially Adam and Nick, the 268 weigh in show I swear to God he was bullying Adam straight up just rinsing him the whole show, for no reason. Just had the attitude of I know more than you.
Anik is the best because he said the UFC can fire him at any time so he HAS to do a good job. It seems like some of the others are just allowed to stay no matter what. It should be a competitive job.
Yep. I hate the trend in all sports where they just take ex athletes and throw them into a commentary roll. Being a professional commentator used to be a job people trained and practiced for years as a profession. Now it’s just - this guy played the sport so instead of a professional commentator let’s just have the ex athlete talk about the sport. It’s killed sports commentary for me
Gotta drop DC, didn’t mention how he has an extreme bias but did vaguely for Rogan. DC completely ignores a guy all fight to talk about how hot the dagestani is.
My favorite thing is that even before the Cruz Cormier incident , anytime I would bring up my preference for Cruz over guys like Bisping bc I like how Cruz is pretty consistent with actually talking about what is happening in the fight and talking about the technical aspects of it….. I’d get loads and loads of people push back and say that Cruz is terrible bc of Mcgregor Khabib fight and therefore bc of his commentary in that fight , that means he will never be better then a guy like Bisping …. Even tho Bisping constantly says stuff worse then what Cruz did in that fight imo. I just think people (mostly casuals) don’t like Cruz’s attitude and more importantly don’t want to listen to someone talk about technical aspects of the fight, bc they are comfortable being casuals and feel uncomfortable when technical stuff is the focus of the commentary…..
Ya I like Cruz and Bisping together bc he holds Bisping accountable and will actually rip Bisping a new A hole sometimes which is amazing. His presence forces Bisping to talk less / talk less nonsense
@@herbdeanisthegoldstandard8293 cause cruz is boring and sounds like he’s depressed. If YOU enjoy that then good for u. But not everyone wants a square like cruz commentating the fight
People always bring up the custody battle thing for Jon Anik but are we forgetting about Calvin Kattar landing a Boston Bomb? That man is still S tier, he does his homework, he understands the sport and I love his energy. He loves his job and you can tell. Your impression of him was hilarious
Let’s be real Joe Rogan treats his ufc commentary job as front row seats to the best entertainment on earth, he has more of an opinion on NFTs, Crypto and AI than he does current MMA, but you can’t really blame him at this point if those are the things making you money but if you’re a professional fight commentator at least use some of that 100 million to watch some of the fights and fighter interviews.
@@FFS33 There was that fight a few months ago between Clay Guida and Leonardo Santos where Santos beat the shit out of Clay for the first 4 minutes and the ref could have stopped it, but didn't and Santos completely gassed out. Guida tapped him like a minute into the 2nd round because Santos couldn't even stand up from exhaustion and Cormier started screaming about how Guida's "wrestling" was the reason he won the fight 🤔
Yes, Anik is definitely the best, I'd personally switch Cormier and Fitzgerald but the rest are fine. I love these tier list videos man, keep up the good work, 2022 is going to be awesome!!!!!!!!
I used to like fitzgerald but I’ve come to dislike his commentary over time. I watch about every ufc event, and I’ve noticed that he has these sayings and phrases that he repeats sooooo often. I think his commentary is very stale once you notice it
Not really. He’s got some good lines but how are you going to say someone who has no experience in combat at all is the best commentator. At least dc, Rogan, and felder, Cruz, etc can give some actual technical commentary real time
I would love to see Dan Hardy again. His knowledge is amazing. His voice is legendary. And his reactions were priceless. I miss him every event. He's my all time favorite commentator tbh
I have to agree on what he said about Joe Rogan. I mean look at the Masvidal vs Askren knockout. He was just sitting here still and screaming "oh, out cold". Definitely one of the worst commentators this year
Very good list, I pretty much completely agree. You should add commentators outside of the UFC that you think would be good additions either long term or for a special one off. I would love to see Bas Rutten commentate a UFC fight or maybe Josh Thompson.
Bisping has gotten a little too confident in his commentary. I think he started to realize people loved his casual talk, so he amped it up but it back fired. Also, he low key bullies Brendan when commentating along side him.
Michael Bisping is the reason that people think Holloway won the 3rd round against Volk in the rematch. If you rewatch that fight, Bisping decides that Holloway has won that round whilst there's well over a minute left at the least. I noticed that.
One thing that drives me crazy is whenever there’s even the slightest submission attempt even if you know there’s absolutely no threat they freak out the second they see the submission attempt lol. They’ll be like, OMG their in so much trouble. They’re in a really bad spot. This looks bad. They’re in real danger lol. And the submission attempt lasted 1 second 🤣
You probably don’t have very much understanding of grappling dude. Getting close to submission attempts is often very bad and the reaction is justified
Boxing commentary is wack too. It used to be so awesome. Letterman merchant steward were bosses. Gatti vs ward 1 greatest fight ever and had some of the best commentary lines ever non stop.
Goldberg might have been clueless 80% of the time but his voice and lines are iconic and I still miss hearing him. He was like a dog who was just happy to be there
Hardy is great. Spot on there. Dom is too robotic and can be annoying but he's also brilliant. B is correct. Rogan is D tier now. Him and Goldie were amazing from about 2007-2015 but now he's straight up annoying and uninformed. At one point, I thought Joe was the best sports commentator of all American sports.
I can’t remember the exact fight but I remember DC and bisping getting really passive aggressive borderline chippy and thinking they were about to come out of retirement then and there
DC is for sure lower than B brether. He is just charismatic and talking about nonsense 80% of the time with a lot of energy while fights are going on in the background. And yeah outside of calling out straight wrestling shit he can definitely not cover everything that is going on with grappling.
“Things getting a little testis in here,” Jon Anik after Beniel Dariush didn’t kick drakkar Klose in the nuts before KOing him so hard his gum shield flew out
My god I couldn’t agree more about Bisping lol I HATE when he’s just trying to paint narratives about fighter and telling us their whole story… I was yelling at my screen during Max Holloway vs Arnold Allen “Just talk about the fight!”. It was so annoying just hearing him going on about “this guys so hungry and wants to build the similar legacy to the fighter standing across the cage from him and blah blah blah blah…”. Just stfu and call the damn fight! Lol
Maybe if he was taking opportunities away from people Way better then him but none of these other commentators are way better then him, they are all more or less at a similar level as commentators
Currently after the Hardy incident the best is Paul Felder. I think Paul is very relatable and comes from a point of not being champ but loves the sport. I don't think Fitz or John really belong on this list cause they are basically ad readers who are told to step in rarely.
I always liked Dan Hardy at the desk, and I felt like there was a bit of a Goldie/Rogan dynamic between Hardy and Gooden that made Gooden more tolerable
It will be good to see how Sanko does if she's moved up to fight nights. Seems to work hard to justify her position and not much fluff on commentary either.
She’s a very annoying commentator. Watch her commentary on Invicta, it’s cringy as hell. They’ll put her on the commentary tho bc she fills the women card that I’m sure ESPN is demanding. 10 years from now it’ll be diversity hires and completely unwatchable
I think Felder and bisping make for a great combo. Felder will cut bisping off when good plays are made in the fight, but will also humor some of bispings "ramblings" which I enjoy when in moderation.
The problem with mma commentary is that they always have 2 color commentators and then 1 guy trying to keep it on the fight. In other sports you have 1 of each so if the color guy is going off randomly the other can reel him back. But when you get 2 color guys they can just keep a stupid conversation or line of thought going way too long and the 3rd guy can't do anything about it. I don't know who decided this should be the way they do things or why but it doesn't work. 1 color guy, 1 play by play guy. Its a time tested formula.
To defend Rogan a bit on his wild wide-eyed reactions. I think it's purposely over the top in an ironic nudge-nudge to the real fans, knowing the casuals take it seriously. All three are in on the crazy reaction thing, and it's pretty funny in that sense. I like when Cormier almost ends up upside-down on Rogan's chest.
Fighter gets kicked in the leg once, and then immediately counters back with no issue Joe Rogan 'keep an eye on the knee of so n' so it looks like he may be having some issues after that kick'
Joe Rogan always mentions how “that calf is DESTROYED” even when a fighter isn’t showing any pain in their calf and there is no visible damage on a leg.
1. JOE 2. CORMIER 3 ANIK those are my 3 all time favorites for the ufc... the only reason I don't put Bisping in it is because he doesn't commentate that often unfortunately.. And no ...I don't like Cruz... to technical, and often up his own ass...
Joe tries harder to be best friends with DC than calling the fight. Hes getting worse, can someone please tell me about how the Diaz bros have alot of scar tissue?
Its Dominic snooze for me. cant stand his voice tbh. Hardy the best, love JR and DC even if no research. Anik the goat. Felder very good especially with Hardy. fitzgerald and bisping very mid. gooden is forgetable
You sound like rogans jilted ex dude. I dont particularly think his commentary is spectacular either but you clearly hold some personal grudge against him. So ill assume you would have put him at a B without whatever it is youre holding against him counted
Joe Rogan is a perfect example of it's not what you know, but it's who u know (and more importantly your popularity, and who u are friends with) that will allow u to keep ur job.
He's also been around for too long so he just repeats the same old cliches now. Rogan is terrible. Dom Cruz, Anik, Hardy and Felder are pretty damn good. Bisping and Cormier are Rogan level, lot's of cliches but Cormier at least gives you wrestling insights and some jokes.
I love rewatching vera vs yadong but I always have to mute for like the entire second round or whenever bisping goes on the rant about how he doesn’t watch tape of his opponents. thanks mike you’re actually not fighting rn
Agree with pretty much everything, except I would put DC between a B and a C, and raise Bisping to the C category. DC is fucking annoying at times, and Bisping can sometimes be entertaining.
Cruz for me is C or D tier. Yes he's very knowledgeable about the sport and knows what he's talking about. I just can't get past his nasally higher pitched voice. Maybe that shouldn't matter, Idk. Plus he rambles way too much and talks over the other commentators who often enough have trouble getting a word in edge wise.
Rogan has such knowledge about the sport itself, who cares if he does not spend the time to research the individual fighters that is what a co-host is for, We love Rogan because of who he is and his personality. Also his post fight interviews are legit.
No they're not lol. Hes done Jan so dirty, not once but twice. Saying he used to be a MW and trying to get Jan to say he lost while an hour earlier doesn't call out Paddy for thinking he won when he lost 30-27.
