Bulgarians inherited the Thracians

In genetic tests we can interpretate Balkans ancestry as thracian/dacian/Illyrian-like ancestry?

Today's descendants of the Thracians genetically and culturally are mostly Bulgarians, Romanians and Thracians. A large part of the holidays in Bulgaria are from the Thracians - kukeri, nestinari and many others

But according to some historians the Thracians, the most numerous race, in Europe, have disappeared? Thank you for the amazing and wonderful video showing the Thracian history very objectively in a nutshell. I can add that I have seen genetic studies of Bulgarians and all of them are related to people who lived in Bulgaria, Northern Greece and Serbia 5000 years ago. So the modern Bulgarians and of course all other Balkan people are indeed the descendants of the Thracians. Greetings and all the best!

The largest tribe of the Thracians is the Getae: the Gets. They formed the majority of the Odrisian kingdom. After Christ, the Gets started calling themselves Slaveni..., and after them the other Thracians too. The Thracains did not go anywhere: today they are called the Slavs. In old times the first known name of Thraca was Area or Aria: this came from their mychical king Arei.

I'm E-V13 from Brazil. My ancestors were Portuguese evidently. One of the possibilities of this father line is from Visigoths, who settled in Lower Danub and Balkans for some centuries. It can have other sources too (Crusaders from other parts of Europe, Genovese merchants etc).

I found one paper published in Nature-Scientific Reports from 2019: "Ancient human mitochondrial genomes from Bronze Age Bulgaria: new insights into the genetic history of Thracians." In the results on page 6 it is said: "Along the first component (sPC1) the ancient Thracians are closely related with Central-East European populations, while along the second component (sPC2) our samples show higher resemblance with present-day Mediterranean groups." And in the discussion on page 7: "In accordance with their geographical location, Thracians show a genetic composition clearly intermediate between East Europe and Mediterranean, that suggests multiple admixture events and population movements occurred across what is now the modern day Bulgaria. " So, the contribution of East and Central European genetic pools is given by the 1st principal component (which, by the way, explains most of the data variance). This is in a full accordance with the linguistic theory of Mario Alinei and Collin Renfrew that Thracians were proto-Balto-Slavic speakers.

Im italian from Abruzzo, and my DNA and genetic result is very similar to thracians and illyrians, much more than modern albanians or bulgarians ( this doesnt mean italians have thracians blood, only bulgarians have, it only means that their genetic made-up was very similar to mine ). I think that the balkans before the slavic migration were genetically italian/greek-like, and very close each others, while for examples the latins and the etruscans are closer to northen italians/southern french/iberians. We southern europeans are all big family and all the ancient european civilazations belong to us, they were OUR ancestors, from lyon to athens.

Well, it seems that since the starting point is based on Indoeuropean Theory it cannot be accurate. Greeks were not a nation. It's a race that includes more than 300 "tribes". They descent from the Pelasgians which are the ancestors of what we know as Modern Greeks, Italians, Spanians, Armenians, Phoenicians, Persians and many more.

The modern Bulgarians are the offspring chiefly of the Thracians, Slavs, and the Proto-Bulgars. The Thracians inhabited mostly what today is Bulgaria.

Not as bad as the other 99% of pretty ignorant takes on Thracian legacy, normally stamped with the label "Greek", again, for geopolitical reasons and inherent lack of integrity in Western (historical) world view. There are some errors with the facts as well. As far as I remember, genetic research points to the R haplogroups as common ones for the Thracians, which correspondes to more northern looking appearance, with light or reddish hair and light eyes. That matches the descriptions in primary historical sources. And the murrals with their images in their underground burial mounds. As far as I know, they came from a source culture in the north (Dnieper and Dniester Rivers) of the Balkans, and continued south to Asia Minor and the Mediterranean islands, where they became the Trojans and the Phrygians, much well known, but geneticaly and culturally identical (to the Thracian) peoples, which are the creators of a lot of the "greek" labeled stuff we hear about.

So, the mixture of groups resemble mostly Greeks and Italians (and Albanians according to visual map), and the dna resembles mostly Albanians, but in both cases the term Albanians was deliberately avoided, instead used the word other balkan people. Don't blame me, it is your speech, the haplo groups you mentioned, and your visual presentation. I am just pointing them out.

Only peoples who had spoken Celtic, spoke Latin after being conquered by the Romans. That's because the two languages were mutually intelligible and people were able to make the transitions to classical Latin. According to Herodotus, and later historians the Thracians were from the Caucus steppes and their language although unknown, it was NOT Greek. They brought with them the Pegasus myth as they were mostly a horse culture and travelled on and bred them.
