"WHO WILL FIGHT NOW!?" He roared at the cowering masses, on their knees whimpering, seconds away from begging for mercy that would never come. Behind them their town was Set ablaze, stray embers falling around them like Messenger of death, crimson flames illuminating the dreadful night. The Monster smiled at his victory. Their heroes blood was long dried on the ground after some futile attempt to Stop him and his force. There was no Resistance left in them. They would become just another part of his Kingdom. And I was the one who breathed hope into him, when he thought he lost it. “Hey.” I heard him say. I tore my gaze from the ashes, which was all that was left of what we built, what we had, all of it gone. “Listen to me, they need someone. They need hope, otherwise everything dies. They need you.” He said, lifting a hand to brush a tear from my cheek, as he studied my face for one last time. “I love you.” I said, my voice breaking. “I love you.” He replied, smiling, “See you on the other side, boss.” He went limp in my arms and as he drew his last breath, I could feel my own leaving my lungs in a rush, then I felt it all slam back into me and I was screaming. “Wake up! Wake up! Please!” I yelled at him, before arms tore me away, then my sister was at my side. She held me, saying everything was okay, that I would be okay. I didn’t believe her. “Christ, he’s gone.” I heard a man say, and I looked up to see two men in camouflage, stopping over him. “Then, I guess we all go home. Hold our loved ones close, say our good-“ “That’s it?” I interrupted. They turned, surprised. “That’s it? One man dies for what he believes in and you’re just going to give up?!” I asked, feeling a new emotion, and this time it was my own. I was angry. “Miss, please take a seat.” Said one of the men, Croft was his name. “No! I won’t sit down!! You know what, give me a gun, since none of you are willing to fight, then I will!!” I shouted at them, as I snatched a pistol from my lover’s holster, then marched off into the smoke. It wasn’t long before I heard other feet starting to march with me, I looked over my shoulder to see my sister giving a tearful goodbye. She had children, I understood. We won, I finished what was started, and all it took was one person. One person against the rest of the world.
