Lord of the Lost has already the complete staging for Liverpool. Patty Gurdy has such a catchy song but I think she needs a band with her on stage or her staging would feel empty.
Rooting for Lord of the Lost here. If Iron Maiden trusted them to open for their tours, why not Eurovision too? And this specific song is enough Eurovision friendly. Even if I would love to get some "Leave your hate in the comments" shake the media a little.
The instrument Patty is playing is a Hurdy-Gurdy (in German called a "Drehleier") and is actually a german Instrument! Nowadays, this sound isn't really known in Germany (sounds more irishy to our ears). But it resembles a little bit tradishional folklorish songs from Germany. Thx for your reaction! I'm actually so relieved that our selection is good this year! Haha we can't take another last place!😭🤣
In this design it is French and originated in the 18th century. There is also the oldest evidence. However, it was used throughout Western and Central Europe.
um, the hurdy gurdy is from Byzantium in the 11th century. Patty IS German :) but the hurdy gurdy entered Europe from the middle east and is a possible offshoot of the violin. The more original form used two people to play it, but it was shrunk down somewhere in the 12th century in Europe ( probably Spain or France) and became commonplace with each country developing its own style of gurdy, with their own name for it. The name hurdy-gurdy is British derived, probably from its sound (and hurly-burly) because it is loud and raucous sounding. Not trying to be cheeky, but to give a more full explanation of it.
From a german perspective, Patty Gurdy and Lord of the Lost seem to be the ones getting the most support right now. Lord of the Lost are my personal favorite.
As a fan of Patty Gurdy for the past couple years, I am glad she decided to try for Eurovision, and her song seems like a perfect Eurovision song too. It does seem overall to be getting the most support in youtube comments for people reacting to the German songs, so I'm hopeful she'll be selected and she should do well in Eurovision.
I think the same about Patty, and that's why German should send this in Liverpool. It would be their best result in many years ! Even if they send Lord of the Lost, they will do a incredible result, finally Germany is back in the game !

I would say that this Celtic sound is kinda traditional in Germany, cause it also got a medieval sound to it and we have a pretty big Celtic/medieval fanbase here in Germany But I would say,the most "German" song in the selection would be Lord of the lost, cause it pretty much defines a genre of rock, that's quite popular here (for people who know them: it sounds like a mixture between Rammstein and Unheilig)

@@kevinhofmann2842 Well, no. The hurdy-gurdy derived from the organistrum, a mediaeval instrument which originally comes from North-western France, Brittany and Normandy. If you go further back into antiquity, you get to the yoke lute. But generally, like bag pipes, this instrument is played in traditional music all over Europe. This specific version, though, comes from Ireland. Like the Celtic harp. Or the Uilleann pipes.

If you remember last year, there was that one band who put out a teaser of their song saying that they had put it forward for the German selection. When they were easily better than most of the songs that were shortlisted, the fandom exploded. There was a petition to give the band a wildcard spot. The final's organizers refused, but must have decided that it would be good to build a wild card into the contest this year since the idea was so popular.

Winner should be Lord of The Lost! They represent everything what an Eurovision stage needs today, if they got to perform, they will own and rock that stage and honestly I don't know if anybody can resist to their charm, their positive energy not in the audience or in front of the TV. They would do so well. Hope they'll make it to Liverpool, they must.

Hello from Germany, I too think it's the best selection we've had for many years. Germany has a great music market with wonderful solo artists and bands in so many different music genres. All you have to do is watch RU-vid. There are thousands of reaction videos to music from Germany that you might not associate with Germany at first glance. It was never because we have no talent, but because the TV station NDR always chose the same crap, which was just boring. After Electric Callboy didn't make it to the final last year, a lot of people in Germany were really pissed. For most people, the selection was never diverse enough. This year, after pressure from the fans, they decided to involve the audience more in the process and TikTok was also used. Personally, I'm a big fan of Patty Gurdy. Take a look at the artists she has worked with in Germany besides her solo music. One of my favourites is dArtagnan ft. Patty Gurdy - Farewell. We have a lot of bands and artists who do this pagan folk, medieval, sometimes mixed with metal, rock etc. Even though I would very much like Patty Gurdy to compete for us at the ESC, I could also live with other artists on this list.

Yes, Patty Gurdy is very representative of German tradition and culture. The instrument, a hurdy-gurdy (Drehleier), is an medieval instrument used all of Central Europe. We also do have a fair amount of red-haired people, so contrary to what people think this isn't an attempt to look Irish at all. This is a typical German scene girl look. And the medieval music scene is huuuge and popular in Germany. There are tons of bands and artists making medieval music (or modern music with medieval sounds and aesthetics). So yeah, this is actually representative of Germany.
Spain has a good number of redheaded Spaniards too. So red hair isn't just an Irish thing, despite that popular belief. 😉 Patty has also mentioned the hurdy-gurdy being near-extinct in terms of popularity, so I'm hoping that her work (and, I hope, her performance at Eurovision) will inspire thousands to take up the hurdy-gurdy and give it the rekindled popularity that it deserves.

Misfit by Lonely Spring is genuinely the first time Ive heard a band that is actually from the scene try poppunk like this at a Eurovision national selection. At first I thought they were hopping on this genre as a trend but after some research I realised they are legit. They have connections with Kellinn Quinn from Sleeping With Sirens and have been around since 2017.
The Hurdy Gurdy ("Drehleier" in german) is an instrument from medieval times and was used in a lot of european countries. Same goes for the bagpipes (bag with only one pipe). If you hear a medieval Metal or Rocksong from a german Band like Saltatio Mortis, Subway to Sally or In Extremo (only to name the most known): they are german folk as well and not scottish for example. By the way i hope since 15 years by now to have one of their songs for Eurovision. :)

To answer your question if celtic music has traditions in Germany: At least here in the northwest of germany, near the coast of the northern sea, we have a tradition in sea shanties that were heavily influenced by irish and british music. A famous example is the german version of "The wild rover". Therefore we have also modern artists whose music relates to this tradition, very often mixed to some level of folk-pop and / or -rock. The most famous (and also internationally well known) band from this genre should be Santiano, they f.e. did a version of "Wellerman" together with Nathan Evans. So yeah, in some parts of Germany its kind of "traditional".
Melodies of Hope is my personal favorite, but there is a surprisingly high amount of really good songs in the German selections this year. I can easily see almost every one of these doing well in Liverpool 🔥🔥

And even as we've seen time and time again (most recently with the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria), people in one region can call for help and quickly receive all kinds of aid and support from the rest of the world, thanks to the internet. By the way, southwest Germany is part of the birthplace of the celts (there are a ton of celtic hillgraves in my area - which are older than everything you can find on the island). So down here we are actually seeing ourselves as celts - germanic is pretty much the middle-north part of Germany. Yeah well history and all that shite ... But it all watered down of course.
As soon as they released the candidates for our national selection, I was wondering what you would think about them! Great reaction as always and thank you for uploading it so fast haha. I was very pleased to see that our broadcaster finally stepped away from their “radio-friendly” approach, so this year we have much more musical variety. My personal favourite is probably Blood and Glitter, they are the embodiment of Eurovision haha. I’d also kinda like if we sent a German song and artsy ballads sung in a native language have been doing well that past few times (I’m thinking of Saudade and Voilà). It also has a strong message and they just released a music video for it too, where the singer is dancing, so I think they might actually stage it well. I have been supporting Patty Gurdy since she revealed her application, and knowing that she made it to the selection makes me happy. I can already see a comeback to top 10 for Germany with her. Overall, the selection is actually pretty decent. I really think that Germany really taken the message of the 0 points from the juries last year.
Thanks for pointing out the songwriting of Blood and Glitter is good, even just at one point. That's my point too! It's not just rock, polarising whatever it's a well written song with a lot turning points a ESC song needs to not get boring. With Patty I agree too, there is a bassline missing, the production isn't fully on point, it's leaving out potential in the chorus and that's kind of sad. Congratulations! I reacted like you about Patty Gurdy 😄, all in her and her song reminds me of Ireland. But this entry comes from Germany, and i really think it's the best choice to get a chance to be top 10 ,or top 5. She could win too. How does german music sound, good question. 😄 I think the selection of this year is a nice representation. Missing is maybe just the electronic kind and Rap or Hip Hop. And yes there are a lot of people that listen to Patty Gurdys music style. Medieval/ Folk is popular. Since "Kaufmann & Maid" I love the scene even more, it features Patty and Saltatio Mortis, Feuerschwanz and Sasha...
Being a fan of german music for many years, I was totally upset with their fails at Eurovision every year. Hope they finally send something like Lord Of The Lost or anything good else, because half of this entries are really worthy.
I was pleasantly surprised when the songs dropped, and they all have grown on me somewhat. Alle Frauen in mir sind müde (translates to "all women within me are tired") especially has quite straightforward but still meaningful lyrics (Long-winded metaphors isn't really a thing us Germans do much) about equality, and it's a different take on a female empowerment song, focussing instead of the hardships that led us to where we are now. Check out the translation of the lyrics on Eurovision World for more (and not just because I made it hehe). But yeah, overall a really strong selection with good diversity of styles and topics, I would be happy with most of them going forward, Blood and Glitter being my favourite, but Patty being from my home city doesn't hurt either.

the institution that decides who germany sends to eurovision got quite a shit storm after last years competition, that's why they changed things up a lot (how artists can apply, how the general public can vote etc.). Probably that's why the acts are so good suddenly 😄

And the Celtic city Herodot (who refers actually to other ancient Greeks) talked about is the Heuneburg/Germany - an over 2500 year old archaeological site with some reconstruction of a Celtic town/settlement and hillfort. A very good selection. But Patty Gurdy is the favourite. For several reasons. Yes, it is not a difficult tune. Patty can do much more medieval. But it is catchy, very easy and soon to singalong. It sticks in the memory. As i Type 400.000 views on RU-vid is very good. Patty alone is show enough. And the Hurdy Gurdy does the rest. She will make it memorable and give Germany the glory of winning or at least end up very high. I belive the NDR/ARD choose the tik tok selection firstly to get more young people involved because traditionally the young folks of Germany aren't watching TV nor the public broadcaster anymore. Secondly I guess because last year the outrage was very high that a fan favourite non radio typical Electric Callboy wasn't chosen for the NF and the thought now yeah let them have a say. Though the songs in the Tik tok selection aren't the top of the pops good
The fails came by the Eurovision officials of Germany. They always asked for song which are great on radio, not great for a show. Many of the German Eurovision fans are not happy about the entries of the last 7 years. Only Michael Schulte was the last good entry. Main reason was, they won't to win the ESC or like that, how I heard
After going through multiple comment sections of reactions i can say with 80% certainty that it will be one of those 2,they get all the love in them I voted for patty, mostly because Lords of the lost are already big and dont really need that spotlight, patty on the other hand is quite new and had to go through hard times the last years, from covid blocking her from doing her starting out tours to loosing her home and studio to a river flood and having to rebuild everything, she just got beaten down but kept going, releasing a song about hope of a better future after al of this that is a total banger, that is worth a vote for me 🙂.
Patty Gurdy is so secondary despite the song itself is pretty nice. As a fan, I won't say for the LotL, cause my opinion isn't unbiased. But whom I really like is Will Church.
Definitely Lord of the Lost. They are so so unique, tolerant to others and so true to themselves. Chris Harms is such a talented and dedicated songwriter/ producer, also for many other bands - he and the whole band really deserve to be seen on big international stages. The whole band just works great, especially Gared.. How many instruments does he even play? 😅
German medieval and pagan folk songs might sound kinda irishy. I recommend you to check FAUN - Federkleid (feather dress) They are a german pop folk group and this particular video has almost 100 mio views. Yes it's very good.

While I like the idea of going through these EuroVision picks & puting them into this album like format can you listen to the final product before posting? The volume levels are so low on all the songs we only hear you. Leaving us the viewers with no real idea what you're reacting to.
My personal Fav is Anita's. It really cought me off guard and I feel like this would be a very memorable song. It starts normal but the build up and ending is Awesome
