I’m going to say it’s going to work out for both teams. IQ gets his chance to become a star and RJ goes back to Canada change of scenery helps hopefully and the Knicks get hands down one of the best perimeter defenders in the league who can lock up stars for the playoffs.
@@jj47k. I already have seen what our culture and our development program is capable of. I've also seen Thibs and NY under-perform at developing rookies for the last decade. You've been watching a terrible team that has depended on bringing in talent for so long, you don't know what it's actually like to manifest that talent. Toronto, because it's harder to get players to sign here, we've had to pour all our resources into player development. Don't worry, your ignorance will be our harvest.
Great short and long term move for both teams. Raps have their PG/SG in IQ and maybe Barrett pops with a change in scenery, but his contract is very tradable with the salary cap if he is what he is now. Knicks have a playoff run with OG and setup to sign DM, then use OG’s bird rights to sign him by going over the cap. Win now and win in the future for both teams.
Knicks and Raptors had to do this deal by the 30th of December in order for the Knicks to maintain OG’s bird rights and be able to give him his full value contract. In any case, as a raptors fan, OG needed a change of scenery and sounds like RJ (not high on him) and quick did as well. Win win for both sides as we also got a Pistons second rounder and Knicks keep all of their firsts.
Good points all around. And it was a necessary trade for both sides. Agreed that RJ isn't going to help Toronto's spacing with Scottie and Siakam, but then, they don't have to start him if it's a problem. Who cares about RJ. Quickley is who the Raps desperately wanted, and he's perfect for their starting unit
Love the IQ pickup by the Raptors. Watched them against Boston/Detroit and was disgusted at their guard talent, I think he has the potential to be their future PG. RJ is alright, I think they're better off flipping him down the line for some shooting around Scottie.
I like it. Knicks didnt want to pay IQ. Shed cap space from barret. Now they have OG’s bird rights whos rumored to want to be there. Raptors had a roster construction and salary issue with OG. They needed OG but also needed scottie and p, but thats 3 forwards. The flynn saga is over but at least we got whats essentially a late first back
After I saw Precious & Flynn were included, I like the trade /slightly/ more. But the Knicks grossly overpaid, and the only reason it won’t be a flop because IQ likely wasn’t re-signing. Raptors got a starting level PG, a young, hometown and future All-Star in RJ, both who will help space the floor for Scottie and are on the same timeline. This trade likely makes the Knicks /slightly/ better assuming OG booms like people hope, but they’re likely still a 2nd round team at the max, barring injuries to other teams.
OG is an expiring contract who will demand more and probably way more than what Rj was getting due to his high demand around the league, doubt Knicks can go for a star player now after this trade
Not true he already stated he'll take less if he goes to NY plus he's a CAA player which is Leon's roses agency. Also if you look at Leon roses move we wouldn't have gotten OG if we were gonna over pay in the long run. I don't believe knicks are Done with trading I expect a big piece coming soon
It’s been a month since the trade and some of the takes on RJ have not aged well at all. Harrisson Barnes and Kevin Huerter over RJ Barrett are two outrageous take 😂.
@@yoohoo8491 I been a Knicks fan since the 90’s and a RJ struggling a bit this year but he was a 2nd best player in the playoffs last year had the most 30 point games out of anyone in the league for anyone 22 and under at at the end of the 2022 season and Quickly is a top 15 pg right now and he’s shooting better this year with more points in less minutes I watch every Knicks game not a casual like you
Better where in turnovers , lower fg% , lower 3pt % , 3 points more doesn’t mean anything if he shoots 6-8 more shots a game and isn’t efficient on his shots , if you watched Knicks you would know rj is a good kid but takes bad shots and can’t shoot the 3
RJ will break out under Darko, let's be straight, the Knicks are not known for their development program. So imagine giving RJ a development coach in Darko. If he doesn't perform then he will be replaced. either way, the Raps will be a very different team in the next year or so. You will see this team play a high level of BBall. I would like to get a more fleet-footed center. To give a bit more fluidity playing around the rim. Sometimes "things have to fall apart, for good things to fall in place". This may affect the Raps in a good way, young players may want to pair themselves with Scottie and IQ, so it may help in recruiting some free agents. But that is all up to what product is on the court.
Exactly and don't underestimate RJ getting out from under the NYC media and back home where he gets home cooking and a fan base that will paint a Canadian flag on him from day 1. He played amazingly well for the Canadian team. I absolutely see RJ bouncing better from this.
@@jj47k. I guess you guys have been so bad for so long that you've lost the capacity to evaluate talent. Enjoy the first good team you've had in decades. RJ under the right tutelage will do just fine and avail you of your ignorance.
That’s not fair to RJ to do and I’m not even an RJ fan like that and I damn sure ain’t a Knicks fan but come on now bro they drafted RJ knowing he was a mid range scoring slashing type player who’d be at his best with ball in hand and spacing to drive what they do sign and draft other players around him that take the ball out his hands more and instead of building around RJ you make him try to fit with players he doesn’t complement and players who don’t really complement either.
I always find it funny that no one gives any Raptors players any credit unless they end up somewhere else. I love watching you guys but there is some serious Knick fan copium going on here. RJ getting out from under the NYC media and getting hometown/Home country cooking? Finally be in a system that actually develops its rooks? Just watch what happens to him and IQ, Just watch...
They had to include IQ in the trade to get rid off RJ. That's how much value IQ has. Good luck to them both. Toronto will be paying close to 60 million for both IQ and RJ in 2024-2025
you do realize OG is an expiring contract and they'll end up resigning him for more than RJ I wouldn't be surprised if OG demands a high enough wage to make it impossible for Knicks to go for any stars this offseason or anytime in the near future
@jonnyrosas5819 IQ wants minimum $25M, it was just reported here in Toronto. He'll get it. Max Raps can offer is $27M, they will match any other offer.
I really want to like this podcast because all you guys are very informed and bring up really good arguments. But the amount of times you guys interrupt each other and try to talk over each other at the same time is so incredibly unprofessional and it really cheapens the product as a whole. I was listening to the audio only pod on spotify and I honestly thought there were 8 dudes on this pod with the amount of chaos that I was hearing, until I saw the video version. i had to turn that shit off because you started to sound like an unregulated kindergarten class. If you listen to the most seasoned podcasts like the hoops collective or joe rogan's podcast for that matter, you rarely hear guests and host talking over each other which is sort of indicative of social maturity and being a more willing and respectful listener. If listening to hoops collective feels like walking into a conversation between cooperative phD candidates, Pick a Side currently feels like walking into a conversation between a group of smart but obnoxiously chatty freshman Gen Z high school students who think they're grown and know it all but who are completely unaware that they appear obnoxious and immature to everyone that's older than them. It's disappointing because I see all this individual potential but you guys need to understand that not a lot of people are going to tolerate the whole circus of everyone trying to get their point across at the same time at so many different points during the show. You might feel salty at this comment, but at the end of the day no one gives a shit about what I have to say about one random video and the only reason i'm even writing this is it pisses me off that this show isnt as good as it could be given the unique personalities and insight. At the very least you need someone on there who will call people out and tell people to stfu when they're making things too chaotic and causing too much strain for listeners. There's a reason why inside the nba falls off the rails when ernie isn't around. This show needs to mature and evolve in order to have a shot at competing with the elites. just looking out 🙏🏾
@@parrishharris3008 The one thing the Raps are known for is developing their rookies. Get RJ home with that at his disposal and also IQ...I think we'll see something very different. OG is a great player but his one fault is he tries to do too much with the ball and turns it over. I love OG but I would do this trade yesterday, today and tomorrow.
I do not we will know until both teams make that next trade that they both must, then it will make more sense. Both got piece or pieces that will help them so...
