What facts though? Zero facts saying any of this isn’t true. He just says he doesn’t like to put words into Gods mouth. God said don’t eat pork, didn’t say why other than they’re not clean. He’s not going to try and explain the reasoning because all he needs is his faith and God said so.
@@nightterrors6262 Yeah but there’s a few issues with that. For the pork example why would God write something like don’t eat Pork and not provide clear explanations as to why not to. You’d think an all knowing magical deity would know these things and could explain them quite well. What it all boils down to is God didn’t write it. Man did. Ignorant superstitious primitives thousands of years ago wrote a collection of fables to try to explain things they didn’t understand. All the books in the Bible were written hundreds of years apart from each other, by people from all different backgrounds. Kings, prophets, land-owners, religious leaders, one tax collector, even poor fishermen. And every book ties the story of the Bible in one cohesive narrative. A narrative that carries the greatest message of redemption in the world. You cannot convince me that mere men alone could have written this by themselves without a divine hand guiding theirs.
All of the gospels tell a different account of the same stories. The book is not cohesive at all because each writer, at the very least in the New Testament, had a vastly different interpretation of who jesus was and why he was, his purpose, his nature, everything.
@@abd_cheese7353completely wrong and has been debunked thousands of times. They are 1st and 2nd hand testimonies that only vary in the focus of the messages they convey. The theology remains all 100% cohesive and you cannot find me 1 single place where it isn’t in agreement with itself. Even at the very end of John, the Apostle states “these things he did and many more, that if were to be written, I suppose all the books of the world could not contain them.” As a matter of fact, it only further disproves your argument because it shows they are genuinely separate eyewitness accounts and even journalistic accounts such as Luke’s gospel, and yet they all miraculously are in line with one another. One author records something happened in one chapter, while the other in the next chapter. That’s to be expected of eyewitness testimony from different people. If you said the gospels were all identical, you’d then have to imply that they plagiarized each other, and then it wouldn’t be reliable. So pick how you want to bury yourself.

Hey, just wanted to share the Gospel that all men need, the Bible says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) this means we all deserve death and separation from a perfect and holy God. I seriously don’t know the answer to this, but do Jewish people not have a prophet of some sort to be the mouthpiece of God or do they just believe that everything that God needs us to know is already given to us?
Religious leaders would never consent to reexamining anything in the bible. That would be the beginning of the end for them. They are stuck with how it is written, and so must contort themselves accordingly in order to explain away the existing words.

Pork isn't the only animal Israel was told not to eat. Read Leviticus. Mammals must part the hoof and chew the cud, you may eat jumping insects (like crickets), fish must have fins and scales, and domesticated birds were clean to eat. Other dietary laws include: don't cook a kid (goat) in its mothers milk and don't consume blood I think it has less to do with a healthy diet or any historical context, but rather, everything to do with obedience to God. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."

Bruh, god didn't write the bible and put it on earth. No religion believes that. The bible is a collection on books written by each chapters respective prophet, for example Matthew, John, Isaiah, as in Mathew 3:1 -12. The original prophet was a guy named Abraham and he is the basis of all abrahamic religions such as Christianity, Judaism, and Muslim. Specifically splitting at at the prophet known as Jesus. The Jews believe up to Moses but refused the teachings of Jesus, the Christians are those that follow that teaching of Jesus, and the Muslims strictly only worship the unseen god and therefore cannot believe in the teachings of Jesus
@@francespulido5215 there were prophets after Jesus, the prophet Muhammad comes to mind for the Muslims. The reason for not eating pork was because they were to separate themselves from other nations. Other pagan nations would sacrifice pigs so therefore they were to abstain from things like that
No, it’s because they lived in the middle east. The climate was not suitable for raising pigs. Deserts are not ideal for pigs, they get diseases and become unclean because of the lack of mud. This made them unsafe to eat.

I like naturalistic explanations for religion because I think it links the source of religion to human behaviour in a very logical way. For instance early people eating pork and getting sick as a result obviously at the time had no understanding of what was happening to them aside from the fact they were suffering. So I believe aside from proper understanding it was easy to suggest that there was some sort of higher power that didn't want you to eat pork.

It's all there to see for anyone with eyes to see it.

I'm a protestant Christian and Joe is correct. The rules in Leviticus were for disease prevention as well as general customs of the culture at the time. The bit about not wearing clothing of two or more different materials is another good one. At that time, such garments were more liable to fall apart and expose you. That was very shameful in that culture. When non believers throw Leviticus at us to try to prove Christianity as bad, they are taking it out of cultural and spiritual context.
You don’t think they weren’t able to cook meat to a 145 degrees back then? They mostly cooked over fires. Of course they could. The reason they did it was to identify fellow Jews. Arbitrary rules like that were specifically for Jews to be identifiable by other Jews.
Quite simply, the food restrictions were only a temporary measure to set the people of Israel apart from other nations. Those restrictions were lifted after Jesus but you're not mandated to comply, it's still a choice.

I knew if I asked him to play any song on the radio he would, I guess to bless my faith. So I said "ok, Lord play "Come as you are by Nirvana". I turned on the radio and the song started playing right there on the spot, perfectly… I started getting flooded with chills like a waterfall, crying, and trembling. He stayed with me for 10 minutes in my driveway. until I got outta the car. A couple months after that I started getting amazing prayers answered way more often, because it helped me quit doubting when I pray and I was lined up with biblical instructions. It's 6 years later and I still get answered prayers in Jesus name.
Ben could no more tell you who wrote the script for his favorite teleprompter reader to read this evening on the news than he could tell you who wrote any of the books of the bible
The Holy Spirit of God inspired men to write His HolyWord down. Thats why the new testament and old testament point to each other and accurate even at thousands of years apart
I thought the reason they would not eat pork was because pigs were animals that would eat anything including human flesh and other pigs. I could be wrong though
No, the reason is: Originally, before Judaism formed, the middle east was a much cooler place, which made raising pigs suitable and make pork safe to consume. However, the change in climate made the middle east too hot to raise pigs, which made pork unsafe to eat.
The Torah explains which animals are kosher and which are not. Kosher animals are ruminants, in other words they chew cud, and they have split hooves, such as sheep or cows. Pigs are not ruminants, so they are not kosher. Animals that live in water can only be eaten if they have fins and scales. It is only in Leviticus 11:7 that eating pork is forbidden to God's people for the very first time-“… and the swine, though it divides the hoof, having cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud, is unclean to you.”
2 problems: “Because I’m an Orthodox Jew…” therefore I believe this certain thing. I think this is an invalid way to think about topics such as morals or ethics. And 2: “I’m not a big fan of naturalistic explanations.” Why not? Is it that dangerous for you to think about things in another way because it will threaten your world view?
Demons were cast into the bodies of pigs/swine, hence the reason pork is not partaken of in certain religions. I feel like Ben was trying to say this, but couldnt bc of Joes active questioning.
