We install a whole house well water filter system on our water line. We’re using 20 inch big blue canisters inline on our pex water pipe. Two sediment filters and two carbon block filters. #wellwater #waterfilter #diy

Nice job on the filter setup, plumbing has come a long way since I learned it in school. Nice thing about plastic pipe it makes it easier to change the setup later if needed.

We've got those same filter housings, and have liked them so far, if we don't seat the o ring perfectly they leak, but as long as you take your time tightening them they've been great!! Y'all are making great progress!

We use a very similar system at our farm. 25 years and no issues so far! Only suggestion would be to use a NSF grade silicone based grease on the filter housing O-rings, makes changing the filters so much easier.

Nice job Mike. The POV angle made me feel like I was installing it myself. 😜 My wife has blonde hair like Liz. When she was growing up on a farm, they had high iron amount. It gave her a hair a bit of an orange tint. Can't have that.

I am so glad someone finally did a well water filter setup that deals with iron water. I live in NE Tenn and we have horrible iron sediment well water. We run only a small filter. I'm talking 2" by 10". And no, it really doesn't work but that is what our well company told us to use. I am definitely gonna check out your system. I can't wait to hear how it's treating you! Can you post a list of equipment and filters for the water build?

Hey Mimi, thanks for watching. This setup definitely improved the quality and taste! I updated to description of the video to include the links. I bet this system would help you out quite a bit. Good luck, Thanks again for watching!

You probably know the routine by now with your on demand water heater and this amount of high iron water - clean, clean, clean. We use distilled water and vinegar to clean our unit and it seems to be doing well enough. Pun intended!

Before it’s all over, your going to be installing a water softener. I’ve been fighting iron in my well for 25 years. Drop pool chlorine tablets down the well twice a year to kill the iron bacteria, it will also cause the bacteria to turn to a solid and drop out the bottom of the casing into aquifer. I’d by a Fleck base STX5600 system by Teir 1 off Amazon for $499. Use standard salt & iron salt every 5th bag. System should last 7-10 years. Just buy a new one when it’s cooked. You got a good start with the spin down sediment & the big blue canisters, buy the Big Blue 5 micron filters in bulk from Amazon, they’ll protect the softener. Carbon filters are a waste of money.

Note, you are going to get water under those filter housings! Lots of water. Also dont over tighten ( i have done it and still kick myself) think like oil filters. The tool is to loosen not tighten. Hand tighten is enough trust me. ( tight hand tight though) dont use the wrench and give it some then expect to get the bloody thing off after a while I have two of half the size for my two 22 000 lt tanks that supply my house in Australia. Im not off grid just dont have town water here 16 km from the town centre of Brisbane...... only 2 million people in Brisbane.. Only

If you have hi it OYou might want to put a magnet filter on your system to so the iron won’t clog your other filter and they’ll last longer

Have you had any issues with the HDPE pipe connections? Reason I ask is I am also setting up a filter system from my well and I litterally only needed like maybe 10 - 15 ft of HDPE 100 psi poly pipe and it's either you buy the 150 foot roll or you buy it in 2 ft pre-cut sections. So I bought it in pre cut sections. I connected 2 pressure gauges to the filter, one before and one after the filters. When I pressure checked with compressed air I noticed one of my pressure gauges was not perfectly straight vertically, so I gave it a little adjustment to make it perfect and it started leaking air cause I had the system pressurized to 80 psi. I ended up having to replace that section of pipe with new pinch clamps and pressure checked and it's good, but I can't shake the feeling that I don't fully trust the HDPE piping and fittings. I mean it was litterally just a 1/4 inch adjustment on that inline gauge to make it straight up and down, and when I moved it air started leaking. So I guess what I am trying to say is it seems as though any twisting movement in the connections will cause a leak.

Just remember that a carbon filter only removes taste and odor not iron. You have to add a complete iron removal system if you want to take the iron out of the water so it doesn't stain fixtures and clothes.
