Nothing better than locals recommendation, online recommendstions usually only rate food by taste but locals rate food by price, people's tradition, ambience and most important authethicity of the dish.
Washing your hand with water from the durian husk will get rid of the smell. But I usually don't do that because I love the smell that lingers on for days! The rambutan-like fruit is called "pulasan". Its sort of like a cousin to rambutan. The Chinese locals here call it "rambutan from the mountain"...
Regarding the durian, because the durians were plucked really green and ripened later in US so it will never be "fresh" smelling. The durians in South East Asia are harvested and sold locally so they are a lot fresher.
I loved everything about this video!! I was so surprised to see corn+butter+salt in Malaysia! This is an extremely common food you can get at any beach in the south of Brazil, i grew up going to the beach in the holidays and eating this! So good
It is said that using durian shells to wash your hands is more effective than just using water+soap to remove the stench. Supposedly, some of the chemicals within the Durian Shell helps in removing the stench. But whether it truly is the case, I'm not sure. Try it for yourself and see (:
Durian fruit is heaty. Some people after consuming a few pieces would get nose bleed or body becomes very heaty(hot). And many believe the durian crust/shell has anti-heaty property. Add salt would drop the "heatiness" even more. Something like Yin-Yang thingy. Musang King durian should be eaten last, coz it spoil your taste buds after that. Other types of durian will become not tasty any longer.
Jonathan WahChai nothing to claim. My Malaysian friend confirmed that all Malaysian food has had its humble beginnings in Singapore most notably nasi lemak
Mike, I am curious if you pay for all of the food at these? If so, how very generous of you! As always I look forward to all of your videos! You are my favorite food reviewer ever! You are fun, kind and so nice to those around you.
Hey Mike! Welcome to Kuala Lumpur! The greatest city in Southeast Asia! Malaysia is definitely a lovely country! Really hope that I can bring you around, too baddddddd
Eh.. honestly, my parents also didn’t taught me to wash my hands like that before but I did heard of it. That day I asked Mike to do that just because of our friend ask me to do so. Lol 😂
Can't watch those videos without having some food in front of me especially now when I'm pregnant. Now I have some serious cravings to just eat that lamb and all the food that Mikey and has tried.
I enjoyed this Malaysian so much! ✨🧡 Rick and Steve, the two Malaysians hosts/guides, were so pleasant to be with too -if this make any sense. *If you haven’t wathed the 7 videos yet... it’s never too late!
Mikey has become very Westernized you can tell - "Hey why don't you do it this (more logical) way?" *Easterner w/ Confused/Concerned Face* "Uhhh No that is not how it is done"
That was just the first day, and his host probably just wanted to show him a good time and let him to be able to try a ton of different foods. There's still time for him to try more authentic dishes. Mikey even says at the end of the video that the place they went was kinda touristy but he still had a really good time.
