I don't remember how old I was when I saw this, but I know her speech has stuck with me all these years. Whoopi means so much to me.

I’m glad she called out the NAACP in her speech. For those who don’t know or remember, they boycotted “The Color Purple” when it came out because they felt some type a way about what they deemed ‘negative stereotypes of Black men’ and many feel the backlash they started is why it was nominated for 11 Oscars but won nothing. Props to them for making it right & not editing that part outta her speech… 👏🏿
