I'm a big fan of the whopper plopper for sure!!! I have it in every size except the 60. In the 75,90,110,130 & 190 in multiple colors. Ive been wanting to get the 60 just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Good day on the water Sir!!!
Thanks, John! I feel the bigger ones definitely swim better and that the 60 has it’s time and place, I just can’t justify tossing it over the bigger ones most of the times. I’ll definitely be creek fishing with it one day. That’s where they seem to shine the most.
Great tip on the importance of changing up that cadence when retrieving those top waters in. That thing was a bass magnet out there! I had the same thing when they were almost to the boat and would hit it just before ending the retrieve. Even with that larger Savage Gear, it was all smaller ones for me hitting that tail treble. You definitely got some upgrades as you went along! I gotta be honest, the older I get the more I dislike treble hooks lol! It’s awesome how aggressive they’ve been in following the baits and giving multiple strikes. Good number of fish, didn’t get yourself hooked - I’d say that was a successful outing. Beautiful pumpkin seeds, outstanding on top water too! Another great episode Bryan!👏
Thanks! I’ve easily doubled my strikes, maybe tripled, by adding pauses and pops to the Whopper Plopper. Forgot to say it out loud so I made sure to add it in the fine print there. I also hate treble hooks but I especially hate those small ones. I just can’t get a good grip on them to pull them out.
What an awesome outing Bryan!!! Those pumpkinseeds were beautiful looking n good sized. I have two 60’s I was saving for a creek near me. Might have to try them out on the Delaware river!! Great share brother👍
I hope you slay them! The Delaware might move too fast for them but it’s worth a shot. I think hookup ratio will be better on small creeks with Smallies. I probably won’t use it again until then. Or it might be a good first lure for my kid to throw. Would be fun to see for sure.
Absolutely good advice to change up the cadence now and then. Of course it also works with other baits too (jerk bait etc.) That 1st male Pumpkinseed was beautiful! Over the years I've had a few in my aquariums. They're more ornery than one would think.
Bro even with dinks, top water is king! I like the smaller presentation. I’ll definitely be grabbing one and trying it out. Glad that hook didn’t get ya worse. Great video! 👊🏻
Good thing about small trebles is they can only run so deep 😂 Definitely worth a pickup. I like the Bone color for day fishing but I actually bought that lure AT the store and Powder was the closest they had to it.
Don’t you just love when you see them hit your bait? So cool. Sorry bro, but I laughed out loud at the count down to treble hook pain. 😂 Trebles can be annoying, plus they ruin nets. 😂 Great video buddy !!
Thanks! I absolutely love topwater. Nothing better…especially hearing it in the dark night fishing when a 3 pounder smokes it. Agreed that treble hooks suck. Luckily I’ve never been seriously hurt but I k ow that day is coming 😂
I really enjoyed this video. Never been or never thought to go to Harsons island to go fishing but looks like a great time. Might have to try that this weekend. Tight lines.
My biggest fear is catching myself with one of those ploppers. The hooks seem to be the sharpest around. Great video and you really showcased what that little guy can do
Thanks, Greg. It was channels like yours (creek guys) hat inspired me to give it a try. I’m glad I did but I really want to see what it can do on small, slow moving creeks that hold Smallies.
@@TheMichiganFisherman Trey from fishsmack told me he removes the belly hook and puts a larger size treble on the back. Less misses and lost fish. I haven't tried it yet but something to think about
I did try whopper flopper few times on saltwater and did catch some fish but I think that's works better on freshwater after I watch you my Friend 🙂 awesome catches and video 👍 stay safe and after theme buddy 👊 tight line 🎣 blessings from Paradise ⚓🙏🍻
This is the earliest that I’ve ever had topwater success. Very crazy. I only tried it because it got blistering hot out of nowhere and the water was dead calm. It was the right move.
I knew this vid was gonna be impressive. Lol. That small whopper gets destroyed in those skinny water areas here in Texas, figured you get bit too. It don't matter the size when they're eating top water they're all fun
@@TheMichiganFisherman might get a bigger bite but it gets bit more frequently when it's small and they don't care because they hate the noise. They hit all sizes
Really? That sucks to hear because I caught TONS of big ones on the 110 with no issues and it wasn’t until I casted it into a cement wall that I broke my first one 😂 Good to know though 👍
What an awesome session with that new lure. Loved that you caught different types too. Just a question, went out myself this week with a topwater lure for an hour, didn't even get a strike, but what do you mean by changing the way you retrieve a lure, is it just the speed you reel it in? Thanks and great job Bryan!!!
Yes. Sometimes I do a straight retrieve. Sometimes I add pauses. Sometimes I’ll pop the lure to have it make a louder gurgle and splash. Usually I get WAY more strikes when I’m adding pauses and pops.
