"Whose fault? Their fault!" Growing anger in Beirut over tragedy 

The lady is correct money should not be given to those governments whose political leadership is infamous for corruption instead donations should be made directly to hospitals and private investments in local businesses is best way to help people directly.

I have a bad feeling that our donated money would go into someone's pocket....

The first guy was speaking about how cheap a human life is. That applies to all of us...

I'm with the Beruit people's mindset here as well. It's not their fault. Whomever stockpiled these chemicals without thinking twice on their instability is fully responsible. Intelligent logistics would involve dividing this chemical into much smaller chunks and dispersing them away from each other so this kind of reaction could be avoided. It's like storing the entire US' supply of C-4 in Fort Hood for safekeeping. It just doesn't make sense and is a disaster waiting to happen.

I feel so sorry for these people. Their country is on its knees economically and now this!.

I love that the police did not beat and arest that woman nor pulled her around on the floor like that one guy did. All the others stoped him and try to just go and deescalate because they knew what trauma these people have gone through and understand theyr pain. In america that woman wouldve probably goten either shot to death goten beaten till she bleed and wouldve also probably went to jail after for a long time.

The explosion looked like something out a movie. The shock wave was unbelievable. I'm sorry for those who lost their lives.

That is why, I am dubious to give or fundraise money to Beirut. I want it to go the help the people and city, but most will end up in the bank accounts of the corrupt politicians.

This bakery there was a hang out place for all of the students in my old school. Damas it was called. It's a crosswalk away. My school is old. Over a 100 years old. Now it's destroyed. Totally destroyed. Walls gones. Ceilings fallen. Windows shattered. The offices are unregnizable. Our church is disfigured. Part of its history is now lost. Tomorrow we're going to clean it up a bit as much as we can. Students and graduates alike. This place holds some of our best memories. Now it's been obliterated. But just like it survived many local and world wide wars we will make sure it survives now. It's our turn to rebuild. And it's their turn to pay. (Donations are open on Lasalle.org to rebuild this school and 2 other similar schools in and near beirut because this school isn't isolated it's part of a global community of hundreds of schools in over 80 countries.)

This is not the first Ammonium Nitrite explosion recorded or the worst. The fact that some of the worst of these disasters occurred between 1900-1950 and in 2020 we still don't have the proper protocols in place to keep people safe is astounding. I hope everyone and their families can find time to mourn those that lost their lives and that their wounds and hearts can heal.
