Why 2020 Honda Civic Type R Sport Line Won't Be Sold In America - Inside Lane

The new Honda Civic Type R Sport Line will not be sold in America like its other variants, the GT and Limited Edition. This wingless FK8 hot hatchback will only be available in Europe to preserve the more youthful target audience for the Type R in the USA.
The Type R Sport Line features the same 316bhp turbo 2.0-litre VTEC engine as its siblings, but makes use of more subtle bodywork, better soundproofing, softer suspension, and Michelin Pilot Sports 4S tyres. Pricing has yet to be announced.
Is Honda right to ban the Sport Line from America? Let us know in the comments.

2:02 "Because Honda USA believes that it will dilute the youthful demographic they're going after with the Type R." Honda USA should really take a look at who their Honda performance vehicles appeal to and take notes. Of course the clamoring for the simpler Type R is being heard, Soichiro's ethos of simplicity and function is something Honda enthusiasts still abide by. The uproar about the NSX GT3, and how the public wanted it, was deafening. A simple 6-cylinder 6-speed manual gearbox stripped of all electronics for maximum weight reduction and performance. That's Honda to it's enthusiasts; streamlined efficiency in all aspects.

I'm 45 and have been looking forward to a CTR since, well, forever. Was extremely disappointed in the "ricer" wing when this CTR first came out, but kept holding out for a refresh for the more mature and original Honda fans. Must say, I think Japan USA marketing is completely off mark not making the Sportline version available stateside, or even a package to tone down the ricer features (wing delete or minimization, 18" wheels, etc.).

Its called their price promise so they don't drive down the second prices with cut price new cars. Well they need to stand by that and not over price cars above RRP either. I'm please to say Honda New Zealand doesn't over price their products either. The US dealers need to have their franchise pulled i say price gouging in this way. Smaller wing and smaller wheels/tires that wont blow after hitting a twig in the road. Yeah, that would sell me in a heart beat.

I would only go for the Type-R Sport Line, for my retirement car! Honda......are you listening to your seasoned customers!!

Americans didn’t buy enough Type R’s after the hype went down to warrant bringing in the sport line unfortunately. Everyone who was going to buy it at over msrp would have already. They should introduce it to North America anyways

The massive wing only appeals to the younger crowd. Most older adults say they wouldn’t be caught dead in that thing. If the sportline came here you might see a lot more older folks in one

More subtle!? I wished it was more subtle! I like this thinking from Honda. BUT... The bumpers need the same treatment and a tripple exhaust isn´t subtle! I like the car but it´s to wild for me, still.

Honda should offer the Sportsline in the USA!

This US'er would snap up that little wing car instead of the ridiculous thing being offered here.

Honda is making a mistake by diluting the Type R badge with a sport line. Just make it an SI or Type S

If 19 inch wheel is an option then I will buy a 2020 type R, I just want to daily it. Buy a brand new car then immediately swap smaller wheel on it is just stupid. Honda USA PLEASE Otherwise I'll wait for 2021

Wait for 2022 the new 11th gen is coming out and looks so much better. New spy photos of the new TYPE R look great!

Well I think many people who bought the TypeR wants to stand out from the regular Civic, TR sport line for me it just looks like the regular Civic hatchback with the Si wing, so no no for me.

I am in my 50s and love to buy one without the giant wing like Type R Sport Line if sold in America. Very disappointing.

That’s terrible because the only reason why I did not get the type R because it’s a boy racer look. And I would of without a doubt have gotten the sport line. My money is going somewhere else.

Make the sports line an automatic and it will outsell the manual version without watering down sales

The type R is for the bold. If you don't like the massive wing get a regular civic what's the bid deal?

In in my 20s and the large wing turns me off. The Sport Line, however, is so so so beautiful. Unfortunately I'm Amerikkkan.
