Hi everyone! I discuss my love for 2D animated films and my disappointment in the lack of new releases in this art form. As someone who grew up watching the hand-drawn animations of Disney, Studio Ghibli, and other studios, I have a deep appreciation for the unique beauty and magic of 2D animation. This video is my attempt to share my thoughts and feelings on the subject, and to hopefully spark a conversation about the importance of preserving this timeless art form. If you grew up with 2d animated films as well, maybe you'll see where I'm coming from.
I made it funny too so hopefully you enjoy this and I can put a smile on your face! =)

We all miss them, If they ever came back I wouldn't want to see them becoming the norm like 3d is right now, what I want is *variety* , I want animators to be given freedom to use and combine different styles, to really stretch their creativity muscles.

“And over.. and over.. and over.. and over..” got me every time 😭 I actually want to be a 2D animator when I grow up! At the moment I’m learning rig animation with Gacha but I want to be able to draw frame per frame animation because honestly I think they’re really cool and it can bring your own art style and ideas to life! And I’m really glad I wasn’t the only one who started missing og 2D animations and started getting tired of only getting 3D animated movies in theaters. ALTHOUGH comic style 3D animations like Spider-Man Across the Spiderverse, Puss and Boots the Last Wish, and more to come like the TMNT movie are awesome, and tbh seem to be the only good movies releasing atm

Though I may not be born in the 90’s but I sure do remember the VHS’s and how much of a pain they were. And a few other movies you said, I totally remember at least a pretty good handful of them, even if I didn’t get to see them in the theater, I do remember watching them and I too enjoyed them as well

I remeber when I was little even tho I was born around the 2010 we had VH tapes that me plus my cousins watched and to this day we sometimes still watch them like that. Also yes I did watch The Brave Little Toaster (YES SOME PARTS WERE MESSED UP).

I miss all the Old Disney movies like Lion king and I mean the ORIGINAL versions. I grew up in the 2000’s and I’ll admit all the classical Disney movies aren’t what they used to be, 20 years old me looking back on the 3 year old to 4 year old me watching a Video Tape my god I miss those days. 2D animated movies were one of the best growing up. I mostly watched the classic Disney movies and some from Warner Bros. It's really admirable how outstanding the movies looked when the animators had to hand-draw several pictures for each frame of the movie. It must've taken them so long to do that for every film. I grew up with 3D films as well and they were pretty enjoyable but 2D films will always be special to me since they don't really make them that much anymore. It would be nice if Disney would come up with more original ideas than just making live action versions of their older films. Like I miss 2D films so much. I feel like anything that is 2D is done on computer now and gacha is a perfect example of that.

I completely agree with you - 2D animated movies are truly remarkable, and the amount of time and effort that went into creating each frame is truly admirable. The classic Disney and Warner Bros. movies are some of the most iconic examples of this art form, and they have a special place in the hearts of many people. It's unfortunate that 2D films have become less common in recent years, and it's understandable to feel nostalgic for them. However, there are still some great 2D animated films being made today, even if they are not as well known to the public as we would like. Maybe that's why I don't mind gacha because the big eyes and bright colors remind me of classic 2d animated films.

I love 2d animation, and I’ve had to search. I’ve gone deep DEEP down the anime rabbit hole, and while I love 3d 2d just cranks up nostalgia for me. I saw that Lackadaisy snippet in there. When I first saw it I knew I was going to be a fan. May I recommend The Glass worker it’s a 2d film coming out of Pakistan heavily inspired by Ghibli. It looks beautiful

I remember after 2005, when 2d animated films were out of theaters, it crushed me for years, I guess most 2d animated movies in the early 2000s were bombing bad. That's why seeing The Bob's Burgers Movie was such a special experience for me, which reminded me how I loved 2d animated movies. I was also surprised you mentioned Clifford's Really Big Movie, it's very underrated and little known. Good to see others who remember it.

But the true part about Disney that they took information from different things since they found something from the 1800 bucks or the '90s books and they got sued from zootopia because that was a part of a book because copyright is very different, but I don't blame Disney. They may have taken a lot of information but their first cartoon was Felix the cat from 1919 and Oswald the lucky rabbit was made in 1927. Mickey first debuted in 1928 also known as the brother of Oswald the lucky rabbit but Disney came out rivals with Warner Bros. But I think their rivals with Nickelodeon to but they made a lot of money

It's true that Disney has been known to draw inspiration from different sources for their movies, sometimes leading to legal issues like in the case of Zootopia. However, it's also important to note that many works of art are influenced by other works and it's not uncommon for creators to draw inspiration from various sources. Felix the cat was their first? I remember Oswald but I didn't know Felix was the first. I love that cat!

I know I'm late, but I totally agree with this. 2d animated movies were my favorite when I was growing up as well, and seeing now that there aren't as many good ones coming out more recently, is annoying to say the least. Seeing they aren't coming out with more quality 2d animated movies is frustrating because there is so much potential for good ones, yet no 2d animation and instead 3d animation that had so much potential for 2d. Also, I'm hoping to one day be able to animate in the 2d format, so I think my first posted animation will be for you Robert, because you have inspired me to actually make an animation that I have been wanting to for so long. So if a company such as Disney or Warner Brothers (or any large North American movie studio) were to make a 2D movie today... what kind of movie would you want to see? A fairy tale type movie or something more modern or even historical, like medieval? How old would the protagonist be in a good 2D movie? I'm super curious what people are interested in. Typically a lot of 2D movies have young protagonists, but not always!

I would love to see a return to the enchanting fairy tale style of the 90s in the 2d animation format. Those films had a magical, timeless quality that really captured the imagination. I guess it would feel nostalgic seeing that again. Maybe with a fresh twist to it like something that blends classic elements with modern themes or even explores lesser-known folklore from around the world. As for the protagonist, it would be interesting to have a character that's a bit older. Maybe in their 30s since that's the age most kids are now days that grew up from the 90s. Maybe it will bring a new perspective to the story. What about you?

I totally agree with the idea of having a protagonist in their 30s. Or how about someone in a different stage of life than the typical. Maybe a protagonist who is in college or university or someone in the working world with some career going on. I'd love to see something magical or set in the past. I would be curious to see something new and unexplored, story wise and visually. What about something with ghosts? Or cowboys?

I've always loved Disney and Warren Brothers, and it's actually inspired me to want to study animation in college! Whether it be character development/designer, editing, voice acting, or actually working on the animation. Heck, if I got the chance I'd actually become an actor. 2d animation movies are amazing, the cartoony styles are so cool. I want more 2d animated movies recently because they’re much more pleasing than 3D. Some 3D movies are cool, but my favorite ones are usually the ones who kind of have a more cartoony style. It replicates 2d animation in a great way.

I feel like 2D animation is being used more in TV shows and cartoons rather than movies nowadays, but as much as I love 3D animation, there will always be that charm that comes with watching something that was animated using 2D drawings

Cats Don’t Dance is the definition of underrated non-Disney 2D… Edit: As a 3-D animator, yeah. I like doing 3D, BUT I WANNA LEARN 2D SO BADDDDDD. It may be harder to make stuff with…but damn, it looks so much more rewarding.

right? I couldn't agree more - Cats Don't Dance is a fantastic example of a non-Disney 2D animated film that deserves more recognition. The film's animation, characters, and music all come together to create a truly memorable experience. As for your desire to learn 2D animation, I think it's a great idea! While 3D animation has certainly become more popular in recent years, there's still a lot to appreciate about the hand-drawn art form. And as you mentioned, it can be a more challenging medium to work with, but the end result can be worth it!

OMG SONG OF THE SEA SFIDSHFJSF It's so rare to find someone who knows it 🤩 I prefer both 3d and 2d because 3d makes me feel more inside the movie and it's nice to pretend that I don't live in this stink world for an hour and a half, and 2d just has this style of homeliness that 3d could never replace, although 2d always makes me so jealous of the people who actually have artistic talent 😒

It's always exciting to find someone who shares the same love for a lesser-known gem like Song of the Sea! I completely agree with your point about the different strengths of 2D and 3D animation. While 3D animation can be immersive and captivating in its own way, 2D animation has a certain charm and warmth that can't be replicated. You said it! 2d animation movies are the superior art form and no one can change my mind! In my opinion, 3d movies just aren't very impressive to me (Except the Lego Movie, best movie ever) They can look spectacular and are done really well, but just don't feel like there's much heart and like they're not trying as much as 2d animation movies, especially in Disney movies. And I'm also so sad that 2d movies are so rare nowadays cause they've always been my favorite too

Awesome that you are a fan of the art form! They certainly have a unique charm and aesthetic that sets them apart from 3D movies. I'm also a fan of The Lego Movie. it's a great example of a 3D movie that has heart and creativity. I can see why you might feel that 2D movies are superior. They have a rich history and tradition in the world of animation, and it's a shame that they have become less common in recent years. They are out there, just takes more effort to find them.

Yes,me too. Better than 3-D. Things look somehow more realistic than 2-D. 3-D just looks... unnatural. And as well they will not always age well.

@@Cozy_Lion Yes. Most look off. With their big eyes,and head. Also the worse example is the "MoDdRn" Disney films. Like that God awful WIR2 Princesses scene that ruined the princesses from character design proptation and characterisation.
