This is so true, I got my first big job as a product manager by creating a Tinder, but for babysitters. The idea was to allow babysitters and families to create profiles and "Like" each other as a way to filter by personality, activities and availability. This would supercharge the scheduling and ensure both babysitters and families get the best experience out of the hiring process. We would also handle payment so the sitter would know the money was available and also integrate GPS to allow parents to let the sitter go, ensuring extra hours would always be billable. I guess that was a unique app, right?
@MalewiczHype
@MalewiczHype Год назад
Yes that's a very cool app idea and "tinder for babysitters" is an engaging enough title to make it interesting for people to click :)
@urssoz
@urssoz Год назад
@@MalewiczHype I kinda went all-in with the idea by using pre-notions. I figured I'd get a gut response enough to make them actually see what the hell was this all about. Curious enough, the design was pretty out of the box and almost a copy and paste of Tinder + Uber (to schedule and pay).

For someone who immediately thinks about all that could go wrong and problems arising from a solution to a problem, ....Just out of curiosity, how do we ensure that the baby sitters are professionals, whether the app should allow only those with prior experience and background check. For the safety of the category of users who are families that are looking to hire. It could be a stupid question but it strike me when there was a reference to tinder. there have been reported cases of crimes, including sexual assaults, rapes, and murders, that have involved individuals who met through dating apps like Tinder. So a design that includes safety of users can be considered

The idea of having a "unique" and unheard of type case study is really something awesome, and sadly almost never seen 👎 it can be really fun to fix a badly designed parking meter and making a skeuomorhic UI of it and using it in your mini case study. So many things to explore 😅
@MalewiczHype
@MalewiczHype Год назад
My point is: if you make a case study, do it in a way that would have other designers be curious about reading it. If they are that means it's done right :)

@@MalewiczHype Is it okay if it does not involve UI? And is it more of a physical product?
@MalewiczHype
@MalewiczHype Год назад
Yes, doesn't need to be about UI - can be anything that has a UX component to it (so it can be a physical product viewed from a UX standpoint)

This is great! Wish I had more design projects under my belt. I'm the lead researcher on my current team and I haven't found any helpful resources to make a research-heavy case study, exciting......
@MalewiczHype
@MalewiczHype Год назад
A research one can also be exciting - it's all in the framing, and ok - also in the category / topic - maybe you can research something completely unexpected? Something nobody asked before? Or something obvious that can turn out not to be true? We had a couple of these research moments over the years (like 67% of users not understanding what a heart icon does next to a product in 2012)

Thanks for another informative video Michal - always appreciate that you provide value as well as a plug! Btw, I am in a large debate with myself about how many portfolio projects. You are sure three is enough? Would you then say that five or even four is too many? I am having a tough time choosing between my projects/ideas!
@MalewiczHype
@MalewiczHype Год назад
So here's the thing. It can be 3 or it can be 5 (having a little more doesn't hurt - it shows work ethic and ambition) But main thing is something else: Imagine someone shared a case study on social media. What would they have to do for you to click it and read it? (obviously an intriguing title / thumbnail for starters). Then how to keep you reading? It doesn't even have to check all the "case study boxes" - it's more of a: "I did something very cool, this is how it went" kind of short story - with visuals :)
@harenhallharfoot
@harenhallharfoot Год назад
@MalewiczHype totally get it- engaging, quality substance over pure quantity. I really appreciate how you described even just sharing an idea, without having to build out the whole thing. Creative thinking seems to be the gold standard here!
@MalewiczHype
@MalewiczHype Год назад
Exactly! And my course is more of a guide for those stuck, but you can reverse-engineer some of those exploratory case studies that are already out there and that's also fine. The bottom line is that if another designer wants to read your case study (with interest) then recruiters definitely will too.

Thanks SO MUCH for the tip!!! ...but what's REALLY boring is people constantly starting a video saying "in this video... blah blah blah" When I was in Middle School and High School if we started a report or speech with "in this report I'm going to talk about blah blah blah..." we would IMMEDIATELY get an F. Imagine reading articles online about sports and it starting off with "This article is going to talk about LeBron James and the Lakers..." 99% of RU-vid videos do that and I wish people would stop it!! 😁😁😁😁🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️
@MalewiczHype
@MalewiczHype Год назад
At the surface level it looks like a comparison that makes sense, but sadly it doesn't. In class you're stuck until recess and you HAVE TO listen to every presentation however boring it is. On RU-vid another movie is just one click away and in this case it's common sense to show people right away whether this video is something they want to watch. This is based on research - and a little bit of the "London Underground" effect in play as well. So I try to be original in other places of the video like editing, the intros and some other stuff.
