Baron Jean Michel de Selys Longchamps was on a mission with his Wingman Sergeant Andre Blanco. The Baron was a Belgian aristocrat. When the mission was done, he sent his wingman home to continue on a personal mission alone. The Baron had heard that the Gestapo had captured and ended the life of his father...and now he was out for revenge. His plan was exceptionally daring. He was to fly over the rooftops of occupied Brussels and shoot the Gestapo building with his Hawker Typhoon. This was a personal vendetta unsanctioned by the Royal Airforce. A brave action that was to lift the spirits of the citizens of occupied Belgium and strike fear into the German oppressors.

I always thought: "Why did they remain at the window?" Then I remembered that the whole thing should have taken less than half a minute from his last pass by to the rounds being shot, and out of these, one would need about 20 seconds to get out of the building. So the nazi scum was dead the moment they decided to investigate what was making all that noise instead of running for their worthless lives. Sadly, there were some civilians (germans and belgians) on the building, even if very few. But if anything, the nazi were never entitled to recruit people to aid in their sick activities, hence any civilian killed in the responsible and calculated pursuit of neutralizing nazi officials is something the bastards themselves are to be held accountable for.

This is almost identical to a story that happened in 1942 in Paris when a British RAF pilot by the name of Ken Gatward flew a Bristol beaufighter over the channel and into occupied France so low that after rounding the Eiffel Tower at roof top level a crow got sucked into his radiator and almost over heated his engine. He then thundered over the rooftops of the Champs-Élysées hoping to strafe a parade of Germans, that were known to March down the street to show off their power and to rub it in the noses of the Parisians that they were under German control. The parade was late so instead he opened up his 20mm cannons on a known nazi headquarters and dropped the French tricolour over the arc de triomphe in defiance to the German occupation and as a signal to the Parisians and to France that they weren’t forgotten about. He was given the DFC and his navigator Gilbert Fern who accompanied him on the mission was given the DFM.

Typhoon is my favorite plane, too. It locks up big time above 600kph but it'll turn the tables in a vertical real quick and it is faster than anything at its BR at low altitude in a straight line dash to an airfield, friend or foe.

Now this, is a well-done documentary, cinematic style. 💯 Great narration, great animations. I truly wish I had a PC able to run UE5... I would finally be able to edit/create videos like this video.

A few small corrections to the comment: the RAF always forbade de Sélys-Longchamps to carry out this mission, because a member of the resistance had infiltrated the Gestapo personnel. This man was killed during the attack and the Gestapo found on his body a list of a resistance network in Belgium. Most of the people on this list were arrested and killed... On his return, de Sélys-Longchamp was blamed for his disobedience, and demoted, despite the medal he subsequently received. And didn't die in combat, but while landing, when the fuselage of his Typhoon broke in two.
