This is a topic I’ve literally spent YEARS debating. I’m 100% sure that a movie accurate Buzz can NEVER exist. The wing and karate chop action mechanism, speaker, voice modulator, and wires ruin the entire idea of fully retractable helmet, not to mention the wings getting in the way of the Karate chop action button, the helmet mechanism having no feasible way of functioning, and the arms not reaching to the other side of his body without severe modifications. Just because technology has advanced in the past two decades doesn’t mean we can bend the laws of physics.

Don't forget the battery compartment behind his back with the Play/Demo switch and reset button that needs a paperclip to insert, which would have to be BEHIND the wings....

Actually! So I have been doing an insane amount of Mods to the Disney Store Buzz and EVERYTHING is actually possible except for the retractable helmet but it requires you to mix and mash most of the features from multiple toys together. Check out my Channel if you want to see what I've been doing. I'm still nowhere near done with my Buzz. I've currently figured out how to transplant the wings from the Signsture Buzz onto the Disney Store and keep their popping open function and lights. Im working on the hands as well next but Im very very close to having a Buzz Lightyear that can do everything movie Buzz can do besides the fully retracted helmet

A movie accurate Buzz CAN exist, the problem is that it would be pretty expensive to produce, due to the limited space inside his torso (which will be somewhat occupied by the helmet) most of the features will have to work wirelessly, say, you press a button on his back and it sends a signal to a little motor in his arm for the karate chop action, same with other features, it would be kind of like the Optimus Prime or R2D2 "figures" that connect to an app and move around on their own, I can totally see a fan making such thing a reality

Also his wings constantly clip in each other when retracted. His jetpack and wings are much thinner than the Thinkway version.

I agree with all statements. And here’s a rundown of more reasons why a movie buzz lightyear could never exist. 1. The karate chop action would hinder the wings, and movie size wings would hinder the karate chop. It’s a pick one or the other. 2. The arms to be able to reach across the chest would need a mechanism like the revoltech, or takira tommy. The problem is that those examples are hollow, but this one would have wires and computer chips. 3: A dome could not fully retract and go into the booty. Too many reasons, just common sense thinking. 4: Toy makers would never make this Buzz Lightyear. They seem to not understand the audience for the toy story movies, which are nostalgic college students, and young parents to elementary school kids. This is why the toys for the forth movie sucked, because they striped them down to basically baby toys. Conclusion: While I would love a movie buzz lightyear, there’s to many factors that go against him ever existing. I’m sorry.

Since seeing the movie as a kid, I took it for granted that Buzz could never be an actual toy, unless NASA made one with a a year's budget. The helmet was the main problem, but I also considered the wings almost impossible. However, the wings on the 2009 version are really impressive - back in the 90s (when I collected action figures and followed the toy market) those would've seemed super high tech to me.

Hypothetically, we *COULD* have a perfect, 1:1 perfect screen accurate buzz, But rather than having a full retractable helmet, instead, I think a solution would be just having a removable helmet. That way, thinkway (or whatever company makes this) could focus on articulation, size, proportion, paint, face, etc. without having to worry about making a major scientific breakthrough.

The only things the Disney Store version needs to be nearly perfect are: - A better head sculpt (dear God) - better articulation on the arms and waist - The actual, original SFX from TS1 A perfect, feasable Buzz would essentially be the glow-in-the-dark version of the modern DS one with the looks of the TS Collection version. I'm also thinking of the Takara Tomy super-poseable Buzz. Imagine if that had lights and sounds. A removable helmet could solve the whole retraction problem.

I love these comments on the."science"behind making a accurate Buzz Lightyear figure. I've wanted a "perfect" version of this toy ever since I was a kid. I still want one because I'm a kid a heart and I just think Buzz and Woody are just awesome. They've been so near and dear to my heart so I'd love to be able to see a movie accurate version one day if someone could somehow figure it out. No pun intended. Ssdly, it's unlikely but I'm sure someone cant think of a way to do it. I wanna be optimistic.

By technical meanings, a fully retractable helmet IS possible. Problems come with the shoulder joints then, which requires a fragile "Y" connection. Even after this point, the movement will be restricted, until an "U" shape also connected. The rest of electrics can be implemented by now, maybe with the exception of arms, which would make a figure also fragile. In the end, it's kind of possible, but you'll literally get a hand granade, which will make more trouble than sense. Nobody wants to produce a toy that will brake way too easy, nor will be so expensive to be barely sold.

I remember I was a little disappointed in how not movie accurate my Buzz’s were. The Woody’s aren’t quite like the one in the movie, either with a different expression, bigger pull string and different phrases. Some of the phrases are the same, but they still sound different, it’s not even Tom Hanks, it’s Jim Hanks (his brother). Same thing with Buzz, although I don’t know if Tim Allen was recorded for the toys or not. I had a Buzz that just had its lines from the movies, most of them from when he was alive, though. And in Toy Story 4, it showcases more of his phrases, which I know was already mentioned in this video.

I can understand the helmet not being fully retractable but damnit there’s NO reason why every buzz Lightyear that has came out DOESN'T have fully rotatable arms like what’s the issue with that? Just allow them to dangle straight by their side and let them come across buzz’s body with an extension from the shoulder! Also let the arms (specifically where the laser label and space ranger label are at) rotate to the side! No reason why they should be restricted to the front smh
@WaterCometStudios

Yeah that’s a pretty glaring issue, especially when there’s been smaller figures that have released that have more accurately jointed arms (notably the Revoltech and Takara Tomy ones).

Could've sworn as a kid, I had a Buzz Lightyear that didn't have a space helmet so he looked pretty close to movie Buzz. The only thing that was off about it was the green. It was more of a matt dull green instead of a vibrant shiny green. Pretty sure it was a Buzz made around the same time as ty2 so he was fairly old. I still have my Woody tho and unlike most out there he never had a voice box with the pull string. Im currently restoring him

@SlashManEXE
@SlashManEXE 2 года назад
Yeah, I also tended to discount the revisions made by Toy Story 4. As I recall, the Animated Storybook included all of the phrases used in the original three films, and then some. A real toy from the 80s/90s would have a limit to the phrases. Also, I don't think the wings and helmet closing are as important, since we only see Buzz performing those features when he's alive, and that logic doesn't always line up with how the toy is used. I wish they'd focus more on trying to make a perfectly accurate Buzz in appearance as opposed to half-assing most of the features. The TSC Buzz is near perfect, but the improved wing mechanism makes his backpack huge.

They could definitely make the wings longer and give him ball joint wrists at least though as well as include the details on his wings that only a few Disney store versions have, and they don't include all of them. And why is glow paint such a difficult thing to include on these lol , like it's that much more expensive.

The closest real-life equivalent to Buzz we have are the Disney Store Buzzes that began releasing in 2010. They have a button to open the helmet (halfway, & only open it, not close it), the wings (again, only opening, not closing), laser, karate chop (his arm is attached to a sping for it to work, & you can lock his arm down when not using the chop, but you can't rotate it 360° like the other arm), the arm communicator, & off & on (depending on which release you get), the glow-in-the-dark paint. Yes, they aren't film accurate, but every feature is at least _represented,_ & that's good enough for me.

I think that the full retractable helmet is possible. We see that in the movie the helmet consist in two parts that are quart of a sphere, so inside the body the two parts can be occupe just a half of the inside body. Giving enough space to put all sound devices The real problems are the wings, the karate chop, wrist, thumbs the AND the Utility Belt: In fact we don't really know if the wings button can retract the wings, Buzz Lightyear pressing the button and retracting the wings can be just happened because "the toy magic" like the abnormal elongation of his arms when Buzz is trying to reach thr laser button, or Woody moving his eyes (the eyes of Woody are just paiting). The problem with the wings is that are VERY thin (this can them broke easily) and a extended wing lenght is equal to a fully extende Buzz arm. the karate chop is looks complicated because depeding of how someone make the mechanism, can happen like the Buzz of Disney Store that when the arm have some elevation degree will move the arm upwards and "block it" to put the arm in position to make the karate chop. Other problem is how send the karate chop button signal when is pressed. Plus the Thinkway Toys Buzz Lightyear wings have the problem then to last part of the wing "expand" because the "green structure of the leds" (final part of the wings) are very thick and usually will collide with each other. The thumbs apperently can move in the movien when Buzz is in "toy mode". And the wrist have ball-joint (some people managed to customize their Thinkway Toys Buzz Lightyear and add this feature) and by FAR the most complicated feature of all is the utility belt. The utility belt can deploy a grappling hook that is connected to a suply of string, the red lines of the belt (and this is not a joke) are "magnets that can inflate itself" and the anti-gravity button, that make sounds and plus have a led; probably will just have one sound when it turns on, and just one sound when turns off. And for make the things WORSE, easily we can speculate that the Utility Belt use the pattern of the green line-zone of a regular Buzz Lightyear pants to hold on (plus some kind of mechanism in the back of the belt to fit it both belt ends). And obviously will use some kind of small coin battery (probably just one)
@WaterCometStudios
@WaterCometStudios 2 года назад
Yeah, I think eventually a fully retractable helmet will be released by Mattel or Thinkway or whatever, it would just have to be it’s own thing like the Karate Chop Buzz Lightyears. I haven’t even thought about the utility belt, but there’s definitely no chance that it would be able to do all of the stuff in TS2, especially if it’s meant to be detachable.
@DemoneX1704
@DemoneX1704 2 года назад
@@WaterCometStudios I was looking a bit more closer the Utility Belt of TS2, and looks like the function of emit light and sounds can be replicated, ""easily"". And I say ""easily"" because, assuming that the Signature Collection Buzz Lightyear fingers are of the same thickness that Buzz in the movies we can speculate that the Utility Belt have a thickness of 2,5 ~ 5 millimeters, and if we play with the thickness maybe is possible made a real Utility Belt that have around 8 ~ 9 millimeters. To put in perspective, a “Motorola e6 Plus” have about 8,6 millimeters thick.

Wait the helmet problem is instantly fixed by what is visible in movie and on toy the fact at the retractable helmet we have on current toys uses half of the movie mechanics in theory almost half the torso would need to be helmet space having enough room for a voicebox at links to the speaking buttons and the wing pack could use the karate chop action feature from Disney store buzz and make the button more accurate like the other karate chop action having buzz leaving a little bit more room for the wings activation button which the retracting of the wings is do able with strings being attached to the wings and getting pulled after the wings are opened from the first press of it and probably springs and ya know how some spring loaded toys have a little groove sticking out at holds the spring loaded item in place at gets retracted at the press of a button something like that would be how the wings could open with such little space due to helmet retractions so in theory a real buzz is possible… but it would probably take over a thousand of the wealthiest currency aka the currency at makes things cost way less from less being made meaning inflation hasn’t happened to fast for it so yeah a real accurate feature having buzz toy would be possible yet a collectors item

If the buttons of the buzz could be inner-remote operated (think T.v remote mechanics but for the short distance between the button and the thing you’re trying to work I.e voice box, wings, communicator etc) , and the helmet could be shaped to fit inside the torso, then we’d have it good.

And if you want to see it closer just look at the part in Toy Story 2 where Buzz and Utility Belt Buzz argue and just look at really Buzzes back and you should see the latch which is one the white part of his chest be on the back green where the latch would be on top on there the back part is. Just wanted to say that because not many people notice the latch on buzzes chest, but if you want to see it closer just look in Toy Story where buzz sees his commercial and its on the Revoltech Buzz.

Ok, but what about a movie accurate Wall-E? The toys seem to only perform one or two of his functions. So would it be possible to cram all of the [non-lethal] features into a single toy?
@WaterCometStudios
@WaterCometStudios Год назад
Not sure. Back when the movie first released it was likely impossible but considering the way AI has evolved over the past decade I think a full-on Wall-E robot wouldn’t be impossible, although I’m guessing it would be like the Lightyear robot that was just announced where it’s over $1,000. I’m not totally sure if a compresser would he able to fit in one, though.

Tell me about it, fully retractable helmet, impossible, because of the function for the wings and the karate chop action, and the electronic features

I am sure it could be done if the toy wasn't made for mass production

A movie Accurate Buuz can't exist, BUT, the3 articulations could be as equally as free as in the movie, the wings can be a little mor long, and the wais can move freely with a ball joint, as for the helmet, we can pretty much deal with it only oppening halfway through, this was never a problem!

They can make all the electric components, speaker etc Literally miniature So the fully retractable helmet helmet and karate chop action is completely possible They also can make him have 100% full articulations, arms waist legs and wrists They can also as I said because they make all the electrical components miniature That’s including his voice box speaker sound system They can give him a laser pointer laser that keeps firing as long as you hold and press the button for They have the technology to make the utility belt work with all light up features and it to be detachable I believe they can do it all But they won’t do it because They just won’t do it because They know it would be absolutely incredible Just watching Toy Story and the I will go sailing no more scene, where his arm pops out They even have the technology to give him the electronic components His laser on his right hand And wrist communicator on his left And for his arms and all joints to be ball jointed
@AlanGago15
@AlanGago15 2 года назад
It's impossible, the speaking component wouldn't work as it would be incredibly tiny to be able to produce enough sound, the retractable wings are impossible, the system would be incredibly small and they will easily break, same thing when opening them, the system inside the Buzz would be too small and they will break, Karate chop would be almost impossible as too, the arm wouldn't be able to have a free movement, as it wouldn't be enough space inside the Buzz if we include the helmet function, a system able to move the helmet like the one on the movie is difficult as too, just think on how would you do it, free arms and laser would be impossible, they should be parts completely independent from the body base, each arm needs it own system, see, we would need a electronic board, the light part, the speaker part, which is impossible due to the tiny it would be and also own batteries, all of that for each arm, same thing with the utility belt, it needs it own speaker, light part, batteries, electronic board, and if you want the movement that the TSC has you wouldn't be able to make it, if you really think is possible I want to know the way you would do it, do not limit to say how advanced the technology is, I'm sure you don't even know how the TSC, which is the most accurate version we have is from the inside

@@joshuagarbett Nah, there's not enough space to make something like that, think on how awkward it would be, limited by the distance and I don't think we can connect the two arms, at least they are made to be an unique system, then, it would need programation and something to turn him on and off, and this wouldn't be accurate or maybe aesthetic compared to the movie, it also needs to fe recharged, less space, less accuracy, and less aesthetic, I don't really think that a good functional idea

i as a toy story fan and collector can say ive already excepted the fact that we could possibly never see a full on gadget Filled Buzz lightyear I persoannly rather focus on one looking movie accurate in Toy mode on shelf around all the other toys i wish they had made a buzz with the same face expression from the first movie they sadly never did I dont get why though maybe the charts show it wouldn't sell or something

Only things the disney store buzz needs Better head The same botten that will lift the helmet and push it down And all the movie accurate phrases Wait a minute we can have a 100 percent movie accurate buzz we just have to make the helmet smaller and then everything is fixed huh also am thinking about when I get my signature collection buzz lightyear am planning on modding it with karate chop Acton and a push up and down helmet
