One thing to add...this is terrific for sketchy land-locked lakes with "zero to hero" wind. Why? Because no matter what, either a random rotor or mega-lull brings my Peak4 kite down, and then it is difficult (at least for me) to gather it and sort it out and relaunch it from the deep water when using a normal kiteboarding hydrofoil board (since the board won't float me and dealing with an 11m kite and its bridals when floating alongside it is a mess ). Using a nice big wingboarding board allows one to just sit on the board, gather up the kite and either paddle to shore or re-set the kite and re-launch it. GAME CHANGER. And Mr, Tucker is dead-on; he mentions how with a normal kiteboarding hydrofoil board you need the kite to give you a huge burst of power to roll up onto the board (especially when you weigh 220lb like me!)....using a wingboarding board eliminates the water-start phase and high-power from the kite requirement, so HELLO LIGHTWIND DAYS !

What volume board and front wing do you use? I am also a 220 dude and thinking to buy wing foil for light wind days. Thanks.

I use the Fanatic Sky Air , can't remember the exact size but I think mine is the 5'8" model, which is 120L. It is MORE than enough volume, zero sinking. @@mindaugastrumpaitis6330

I used to think that using a large wingsurfing foil on my kitefoiling board would dramatically push my low wind boundaries but your approach of using a regualer kitesurfing foil an larger board sounds even more logical. Thanks for the idea, I'll make sure to try it out :)

I think my favorite part is learning some new kite nomenclature like “flup it up and “jelly fishies”😂! Mixing it up is a cool idea. I’ve just begun to attempt kite foiling on a Liquid Force POD with a 1250 foil and got a 2021 Cabrinha 9m 1 strut Contra which is fun to fly in a light breeze. I pray for decent winds here in Tampa, its just been abysmal. I keep jumping on my 17m kite. Send wind!

Ha! 🤙🏽 Yeah, Tucker's shred vocabulary can be quite entertaining indeed. Kitefoiling is definitely a skill in itself, and quite the session saver once you get the hang of it. Thank you Tucker! You are the best of the best! .......Exactly what I was looking for. I am an intermediate Wingfoiler and looking for a solution here in Qatar for 5-8 knots. I started practicing Kite control on land and desperately wanted to skip the twin-tip stage and move to the foil. Everybody here in Qatar told me just a waist of time and a mess once you crash the kite and don't even try it. Knie starting on a larger board and parking the kite at 12 while doing this....I love it and and will post a video if I succeed. One Question: Would you recommend a floaty or a sinker board? 105 L or 60 L for my 75 KG? 🤩

David, I'm going to assume you are a "normal" 170-180lbs. 11m Peak or 10.5m Hybrid, 60-90L board (whatever you are comfortable with), Faster foil 700-1500cm. It's pretty flexible but works best with a super light kite and fast foil. - Tucker

Hey Tucker, got myself a FS Hybrid 11.5m and gave it a try the last 2 days. Not easy at first to get from knee position to stand up position but after one afternoon playing around, got it right. I ended up all by myself at some point, all the kitefoilers swimming around. Definitely the ultimate weapon for light wind (was on a Sabfoil 945 which is 1300cm2), will try with a smaller foil next time🎉

One thing I think is important to consider is the ability to relaunch. An inflatable kite is heavier but will not turn into a sea anchor if it lands in the water. Also, I can’t deal with the complicated bridle system of a foil kite in the tall grass where I launch. I assume a low aspect kite is easier to relaunch based on windier conditions but I have never pushed the low end. Should I give it a shot on my FX or is that just too heavy?
@MACkiteboarding
@MACkiteboarding 2 года назад
For sure give it a shot on your FX. I'd guess you can probably get down to 9kn roughly before it gets too heavy and difficult to fly. Sadly, kites don't really re-launch in under 8kn so it's not much of a consideration. Dual skin ram air kites can get pretty heavy if they get logged with water but if you wrap up quick and secure them after rolling it's not too bad. The single skin are super easy since they don't hold water and pack down really small. I actually prefer those over an LEI for swimming in. Nice to have that larger board when swimming in a kite. LOL -Tucker

@MACkiteboarding
@MACkiteboarding 2 года назад
Whatever you are comfortable on. For most people 60-90L board and foils 700-1500cmsq work. For me 60-75L and a small high aspect around 750-900 work for best "performance". -Tucker

Good question, my friend. 🤙🏽 At 1800cm2, that may be a bit of a large wing to kite with, but give it a try and see how it goes. You'll probably want to slide the mast all the way back in your mast track for the most leverage. Good winds! -Aaron

One thing not to do, is to try doing this with a seat harness. You will end up damaging your board every time you try to climb back on. If the wind 10knots or lower, I ride my AXIS 1120 foil (BIG!!!) with a skim board (super wide) and either a 14m Peak4 or a 17m Cloud (both on 32m lines). Neither kite really hunts the edge of wind window, so it works pretty well with such a slow foil. The cloud is easy to gybe, the peak takes way more concentration. I have tried my 51L slingshot skywalker and 75L fanatic wing boards and they both work fine. But at 105kg, these are still serious sinkers. I tried a 125L and it was a complete pain getting and controlling everything in a on-shore location. I went back to the fat early planning skimboard. Downside of the skim board in such low winds is occassionally you are going to have to swim in. Side stroke is your friend.

Hi Tucker, super video and what I was thinking trying as after few year off kit doing windfoil and wingfoil I am looking to get bake on kite in addition of winging to deal with low tide and light wind. Will test it with my actual wing 5’8 for 98L. But instead of buying a new kite foil board I am thinking getting a sinker instead for low med wind with a kite and mid high with a wing. What do you think?
@MACkiteboarding

That's what I can doing here. This board is 54L which works well for me kiting, prone, and winging in winds over 18kn. I'd suggest riding something you are farmiliar with so if you jump down in size you might need to spend some time in the water finding that sweet spot. -Tucker

He mentioned Flysurfer Peak 4 - a single-skin kite that flies in the lightest wind and is cheap, but is not relaunchable Flysurfer Soul 2 - twin-skin kite that is stable and water relaunchable. Ozone Chrono & Hyperlink - Chrono is higher aspect twin-skin kite, Hyperlink is lower aspect twin-skin kite There are a lot of other light weigh kites that will fly in low wind.
