Aesthetically it's cool, my problem with it is my problem with most sci fi space suits- I wonder how it's so form fitting while maintaining pressure. Star Trek is particularly bad about this; but at least on the Animated Series they had magic force field belts to use as space suits.
@@SavageGreywolfI think they maintain pressure while being form-fitting for the same reason the thin nacelles on the original Enterprise aren't a liability - because material science has progressed significantly.
@@LoveMakeShareTV I suppose it fits the general atmosphere and themes of Star Trek to have things like that which are impossible with current materials and methods, but maybe aren't inherently impossible.

The overthruster shows up in a large amount of Trek series, still avoiding the grip of the evil red lectroids! It was glued to a control panel in the Enterprise episodes featuring Weller...I've always wondered if he remembered it on set.
I prefer to think of Star Trek as a platform for social discussion. Politics is obviously a part of that discussion, but not the entire story. There's a huge amount to talk about in the human experience that isn't politics, and Star Trek has always been willing to address that. They haven't always done it in ways that age well, but one has to admire the courage of using that platform so boldly and with so little pretense.
I agree. It may be the fact that there's a slight disconnect between the topic they're actually addressing and the topic they're portraying through their characters. It engaged the viewer's mind and they apply what they're seeing as more of a 'hey, that's like , what if we handled it more like this?' At least that's my theory on it.
My favorite Star Trek spacesuit design is the one used in Star Trek: First Contact for the EVA fight against the Borg on the Deflector Dish on the Enterprise-E. Those spacesuits were reused later on in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and more frequently and with some modifications in Star Trek: Voyager. As for Aesthetic that speaks to me, Star Trek all the way and the Enterprise-D designed by Andrew Probert is, in my opinion, the pinnacle of that universe's design work.
I kind of get where you're coming from with this. I collect knives, and I love Klingon culture, but I don't really like any of the Klingon blades shown in either the movies or TV series. I kind of want a bat'leth, just because of what it is, but the dk tahg, jej'taj and mek'leth are REALLY badly designed as functional weapons. In truth, the bat'leth isn't much of weapon, but it's an iconic piece of kit.

It's definitely easier when there is only one version of a prop. When I finally decided to build a screen accurate Callahan Fullbore Autolock I was able to find over 40 high def images of the actual prop including from an auction house that tried to auction off the actual prop 10 years ago. It was a gold mine and showed that all the versions previously made had some details not correct. My only compromise was that the exact model of the Dbal II laser range finder used on the real prop stopped being made 20 years ago and even airsoft versions were no longer available so I got the 2nd generation version of it

I would assume that material stretches in a way your skin doesn't (or at least you'd really HOPE it doesn't, hahaha) which might make it crap as a meterstick.
Star Trek universe that looks like Star Wars universe instead is ideal tbh. I will give TOS credit though, the sweater-based starfleet uniforms are a great beginner cosplay platform. Though, a WWII-style leather A2 flight jacket hand-painted like period bombers but for, perhaps early, Starfleet? Now that's cool....
The one thing I can't stand about the private space industry; not a single billionaire involved is doing it for mankind. They're doing it to make their already giant pile of money even larger. That in itself means it will never end up being a mechanism that benefits all of us. It will always... only... benefit the rich. Things that only benefit the rich never have a trickle down effect. That's just what rich people want everyone else to think.
I would rather the Defiant from ST than the MF from SW. However, the Slave 1, Tie Fighters, X-Wings, and Ghost from SW is way cooler the ST's shuttlecraft. I do like Bird of Klingon / Romulan large ships over SW's battlecruisers / star destroyers. I am just glad we have two great "universes" to enjoy. And Buckaroo Banzai? One of my all time favorites. The flash back where John Lithgow runs out of the lab and turns back towards the camera evilly hunched over and hisses is hilariously awesome.
I completely agree about Star Trek being about the shows commentary and the inspiring utopia it depicts, I feel the privatisation of space travel leads us away from reaching such an optamistic future though, so am not in favour of that
Re: reference photos. Would you rather prop makers take more photographs of their actual as-built props and offer them as primary references, or is the whole research process from on-screen an important part of the quest?
Last time I was in this early to Adam Savage's Tested video... Captain Kirk was in a The Original Series -spacesuit- "environmental suit", phasing to interphase - while Spock both holds a memorial service and refuses to give up _the Search for Kirk_
I dunno man you paying attention to politics? there's definitely jackboots everywhere. They even call their bag-full-of-manure leader 'Emperor' sometimes.
Star Trek vs Star Wars aesthetics are very very different. One is sleek clear minimalistic pristine looking. The other is kind of the exact opposite. Star War really is far more Blade Runner style / Cyber Punk style. Very textured, lots and lots of visible components cobbled together with many hard edges. It really is the difference of utopia vs dystopia.
Personally, my favorite EVA suit from Trek is the Mid-Late 2250's model seen in Discovery and Strange New Worlds. The Discovery white and grey EVA suit is one of my favorite Sci-Fi space suits, and the colour coded variants worn by Enterprise crew are also pretty cool. I know those shows (Disco especially) have had mixed reception, and have some 'implications' on the lore. But from a purely visual perspective, I think they're great.
Also (Modern*) Star Trek doesn't have an iconic spacesuit IMO. The only suits I remember seeing are in "First Contact" and Voyager, and those were just souped up modern day suits. Same with the suits in Enterprise and Discovery. Enterprise really had old school suits from 70s/80s/90s era NASA, while Discovery I think had a more next-gen era NASA spacesuit... If I recall... (I never got into TOS as a kid from the 90s lol)

Most space suits in movies and TV give the sense that space is dangerous and hostile. Star Trek has the danger of space conquered, so the space suits have no personal stakes. They are just storytelling devices.
Star Trek to me is and has never been a political discussion. Funny how some people of a certain side choose to always make things about politics. To me Star Trek has far more moral and life lessons and lessons of command and duty and Truth and Technology and much more.
@@Krishell Not really. Instead of using his platform to get into a political debate and ruin the wider point of the subject - he just skipped over a "hot button" of debate / propaganda. That is the best way to handle that. The ultra-divisive political propaganda (on both sides) doesn't benefit anyone - so Adam's choice to just skip over it and continue with the question is what more people should be doing. I admire Adam for not using his platform to push a political agenda as many people (including myself) are sick and tired of the unnecessary trend of people trying to insert politics and agenda into everything.

Interesting that Adam will say the words Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic and Boeing but intentionally refuses to say SpaceX or mention Elon Musk and only refers to him as “billionaire fronting the money”.
Now matter how you feel one way or the other about Elon it's incredibely polarizing and not everyone wants to just kick off all of that non sense that comes with that conversation. And people are so on edge about it there would probably be massive backlash against Adam just for mentioning him even if he didn't say he believes in his ideals. I wouldn't encourage all that crap in my RU-vid comments either.
The space fascist is doing a lot to put us behind. He put planetary resources out of business. Intentionally put them on experimental rockets that exploded. We'd be mining asteroids this year if not for that.

Not curious at all. It is smarter to just skip over someone you are not a fan of instead of going off on a tangent about a personal opinion which will derail the conversation and dilute the point his is trying to make about a wider subject. People's tendency to make politics their entire identity / desire to demonize those around them / argue / debate indefintely over politically charged subjects these days (on both sides) - to the detriment of themselves and those around them - reflects poorly on society - so just skipping over the thing entirely is a much more elegant and respectful action.
I need to learn to ignore titles and just click on videos because I only the speaker. When I click on a title to find out the answer to the question the title is posing, but the essence of that question is so tiny within the actual content of the video, I think that makes people dumber. I know the title is there it get people to click, but I think titles should just invite people into the conversation.
