In FL Studio 21.2 there is a new game changing ai feature to extract stems (stem separation) from any type of music. In this video we look at this function on a few different kinds of songs from TRAP, indie to Melodic Dubstep. Enjoy!

Stem seperation is also good for practising composing and also for analysing the tracks!!! Lifetime free updates is definitely sweet... Great video Mattias!!!👍

Cool, what do you use it for, grabbing mostly drum loops?
@Meleebeatsprod

mostly for grabbing vocals and melodies to remix songs cuz I'm playing them when I dj.. what about you?@@MattiasHolmgren

ive been using Fadr plus for the past 2 years and its one of the best stem seperation in terms of quality i can find, but your examples here show that FL has a very good algorithm (possibly better) and as an FL user its easier to seperate in the daw than to go onto browser

Oh yeah awesome. 👌 I haven’t used Fadr . I wonder if this AI code is available open source in any git repo 😂 there’s plenty of ai code circling. Would be great if the other daws implement stem separation functionality as standard. It’s really great, until then I’m glad I purchased Fl back in the day. 👌 Now I can extract stems from those old songs where the main projects got lost. Brilliant 💥🤘🥳

This is really good to have it in the DAW. I have been using Deep Remix which is truly incredible to work with.

I use for creating a reference track. If I want to break down how a particular chart song was constructed- in order to try and replicate arrangement techniques, or get as close as I can to creating a more complex drum arrangement for example If I was making remixes, it would be even handier if just for fun personal use, but if for public release, you probably couldn't use much more than a common drum loop without jumping through licencing hoops? By which point, you're probably more in DJ territory?! For many, it'll be a great feature though. Sounds better than all the competitors that I've tried (in your demo of it). I think Audacity and MPC are introducing stem separation into their products too. To think how much you'd have to spend on RX-8 or 9 to get clean results. Great vid Mattias, TY!

Thanks Morgan, yeah I've tried a few stem separation softwares and FL Studio function did really clean and workable separations, at least in my personal tests. haha yeah, been using RX in the past. ;)

I haven't used fl since 202o.. I'm missing all these nice updates. I'm going to be lost and possibly overwhelmed when I come back.

None of your tracks are limited so it detects the transients pretty nicely but once you do that to a brickwall smashed mixed song , it will pick up tons of artifacts
@MattiasHolmgren
@MattiasHolmgren 6 месяцев назад
Yes my tracks are limited, but not sausage to -3 LUFS. The last track Gelhein ”FLY” is pretty massive😂 indeed it makes it harder to separate with perfection. It did ea great job though eps the drums.

@@MattiasHolmgren Just tried it out , 99 % of the time the stems sound like 96kpbs mp3 with lots of phasing , but it's okay for remixing stuff I guess

Very interesting. If the original audio is created by other company vst, does it find a similar one in fl or how does that work?
@MattiasHolmgren
@MattiasHolmgren 5 месяцев назад
Stem separation extracts pure audio files, not midi / vst information. So no, the resulting files have no info except raw wave audio data.

You are late to the party with this video. You should do a video as to why this feature would be great in Bitwig.
@MattiasHolmgren
@MattiasHolmgren 6 месяцев назад
😄oh. I am very confident I said that in this video. I wish all daw developers implement it into their application (Bitwig, Logic). And this is the reason = Its super useful to be able to reuse stems / drums / vocal chops from old songs etc. Esp if your original project files get lost. It will not be as important to store those old files anymore. Or at least when this AI becomes a little bit better so you can get ultra fine result although a mix is very dense and full….like the Gelhein - Fly example at the end, where we could hear artifacts in the vocal. But its a dense mix on the chorus, so understandable its hard to extract.
