@@derekking1817 great question! Google this “(River Name) Flow Rate USGS” and then it’ll pop up with the various flow rate gauges along the river

If you have to haul water bottles, freeze some of them first. You can use them as "cooler ice" that turns into drink as it melts. Eliminates melted ice that you can't do anything with.

Hey Gatewood, really enjoyed this. I throughly enjoyed listening to two, well educated, well spoken, young men telling stories. There is so much on RU-vid not worth my time. The was very enjoyable. This reminds me of younger days, hanging with friends camping, hanging around campfire sharing stories. Great Job. Keep them coming.

When I kayak camp I expect to pull my yak part of the way I don’t mind it because there’s no way it can get that bad man, I have 128x and it’s pretty big but never a trip ruiner! Also I do the carry your own gear thing too

ive been kayaking for years and having to walk some parts of the trip is just part of the experience. There is no such thing as a perfect trip trying to kayak camp. There will always be variables to the situation just gotta adapt to them.

Big things are definitely coming! We can’t wait to escape the house and get after it again. Fortunately I have videos that have been filmed but are unedited so right now I’m doing that. We all need some kayaking back in our life’s though!

Haha that’s how he’s always pronounced it! His heritage is Cuban so I wonder if that’s how they pronounce it down there. Or he Americanized it lol. I need to get out to the HC too, it’s been too long now

It's the original and correct pronunciation from Barcelona, Spain. Most people try to pronounce it Poo-hole. Call him that next time and tell him another Pujol said it was ok lol.

I really enjoyed this format. Y'alls experience reminded me of my first backpacking trip into Linville Gorge with a couple of friends. That trip was one fiasco after another, frustrating at the time, but years later we laugh about those experiences. Many lessons learned.

Hey thanks! Sometimes having too much going on isn’t the best, but for now we are having fun with it! Thanks for always tuning in and currently we are putting together a bike packing trip. If the virus goes away we will be in the clear. But first, I need some kayaking in my life!

You're the real MVP! That's a long video to watch haha. Houston is a gateway to some pretty cool spots. Even though we don't necessarily have the best outdoor potential in our backyard, there's plenty within a 3 hour drive.

LOL'd when you said you bought the yeti coolers for that trip, sounds like something I would do. Jelly of your bikes and look forward to riding like that again...broke my shoulder on my bike last year and haven't got back on yet. Once my boys get a little older I can see us getting back into trail riding again.

I was still with you till the end! Noticed the River Kings shirt right off. That was an epic trip. I really enjoyed this type of video, and I have actually been talking to my paddling buddies in Bite Me Expeditions about sitting down and doing the same type of video someday. Except where your video was all professional and really well done, I envision our videos as being more in line with Mystery Science Theater 3000. Of course, you are so young that you probably have no clue what I am talking about…Google it. LOL!

Always fun to get perspectives after you've had some time to reflect about the trip. I gotta say, it was a little nerve wracking at first but in the end we had a fun time.

Your boy probably just prefers to do day stuff and stay at a hotel at the end of the day. AC and showers are awesome fret a day of kayaking or exploring but you can’t get as deep in there without camping. I get both sides.

@18:53 Shout out to Double Lake! I live 7 minutes from there. I mtb bike there frequently. Lone Star trail you could definitely bike camp, but imo Lone Star trail really wouldn't be epic for scenery.

First trip down any waterway, I try and do with my kayak and minimize gear first,just right straight through, then camp on it.unless I'm on an out and about and it's a whim,happens.lol.

A great place to hike/backpack camp would be The Hill Country state natural area in bandera tx. You can hike miles into the park and set up camp in their primitive campsites

And with bringing waters and stuff like that I fish a lot so any drinks I have I tie to my yak and let them sit it the water because the water is usually cool , helps with not bringing ice

Another great video GW. I can't wait to see more about your free diving project. As far as bike camping, it's a drive, but you should really look at the trails around Terlingua TX. Talk to the good folks at Desert Sports Outfitters. www.desertsportstx.com/ There are miles and miles of epic MTB trails out there that I've ridden for years. The old Lajitas MTB race course out there is a must do. Hit my up if you want more details.

Thanks! Fun fact I’ve actually done the terlingua endurance race way back in the day. Those were some beautiful trails and I could definitely see us doing something out that way. 10 hours is a long drive though!

@@GatewoodBrown It's had a resurgence, in some part thanks to the gravel bike scene taking off. But back in the early 2000's Texas MTB racing was huge. We would have pros, real pros like Ned Overend and John Tomac show up at the Lajitas Mas O Menos race. Then adventure racing, Muddy Buddy, and Spartan racing kinda killed it. ALong with a renewed popularity in road cycling.

U guys need to come to Iowa in late July and ride RAGBRAII. It's a week on your bike crossing the state and it is a blast. I carry my gear with me so I'm self supported and have no agenda. Check it out its unbelievable

Loved hearing your interview with your buddy. I really enjoyed seeing the footage during the interview. Looks like you guys have been on some great trips together. I’ve never went bike backpacking but I’m really wanting to. You can do it in the Big South Fork in Tennessee. Hopefully soon I can do something like that. Hey Jason thanks for tuning in! I always enjoyed the schill brothers podcasts and figured it would be fun to implement something like that on my channel. We’ve certainly been some places over the years and I’ve been trying to get him back out on the river. Seems like Appalachia is much more friendly to bike packing and backpacking with all of the public lands. I’ll have to check out Tennessee but I’m thinking we will test out our concept down here first and then go on a big trip someday. Thanks for the well wishes! We are hoping it doesn’t get cancelled because of corona haha

Yessir! Two Santa Cruz chameleons with 27.5+ tires. My frame cracked on the aluminum version and SC offered a $300 upgrade to the carbon frame. So I said shut up and take my money!

@@GatewoodBrown I love those 27.5s best of both worlds. Believe it or not, I was an avid rider. It was my first obsession before kayaking. I have a shed full of great bikes. My main mountain bike rig is a specialized Epic full suspension.

I’ve been kayaking in AZ, white water rafting in Washington and Wyoming, mountain and road biked all over the Northwest and Southwest. I’m planning for our nexts girls adventure, I decided to look into kayaking and camping in Texas and I stumbled across your series. You make us want to start exploring Texas. Specifically The Frio and Medina rivers. It sounds like summer is not the best time? Is there a good website to plan the trip? Love all your videos. The interview, gear and everything. Yours are the best by far.

Hey Rhonda thank you so much for tuning in and for the kind words! All of the states you listed are so special. Wyoming and Utah are some of my favorites as well. Yup basically just watch flow rates and then plan to go. That’s hard because the rain comes sporadically. There are some rivers in the hill country that maintain better average flows but they also aren’t as special. If flows are low you could stay at a campground and just do day trips to keep boat weight down.

Awesome video man! Quick side note, you guys talked about the difference between planning a trip (expectations) vs. the reality of the trips. I think it would be cool if you made a dedicated video showing how you specifically plan a trip, and what considerations you take when doing so.
