I do feel the casting of same race for a character as required is different from casting someone with the same skin tone. However, still problematic. The problem is bollywood's obsession with "stars"... They can't go out and beyond these stars to find someone suitable for the character. For example,in Bajirao Mastani, both Ranveer and Deepika were such misfits. Bajirao was a fair man with light eyes..(koknastha brahmin) and Mastani was also extremely fair as she was half Persian. People used to say Mastani's skin was so glossy and her eyes were bluish green..to draw a parallel,like the kapoors are. But bollywood thought to hell with realism...we want to cast a star and his gf only. And they pasted Deepika's face with white paint.. it's not racist to cast someone according to their skin tone... It's racist to paint them with makeup to make them look like someone

I agree that Anushka’s Bengali accent might be cringy, and they could have easily taken someone like Konkona whose skin tone is more like Jhulan + she is Bengali. However, we all need to understand that this is a movie about a cricketer. It’s more important for the actress to be able to act/play cricket correctly than anything else. Its possible that they did not find anyone else who could correctly copy Jhulan’s way of playing and hence casted Anushka.

Many couples use number 8 as a symbol for infinity. Probably she meant that R means everything to her forever and ever. Apart from that, I do agree that they could have taken an actress fluent in Bengali and around the same skin tone as Jhulan Goswami ma'am. Anushka ma'am has also done quite a few accents like Gujrati in HMS and British in Sanjay Dutt's movie. Most probably actors/actresses do work with accent coach but such a try hard accent shouldn't be used. It comes off as blatant ignorance. It's also very obvious that because she herself is a cricketer's wife and an established actress she was taken for such a roll. She's a great actress no doubt but giving actual Bengali stars a chance to portray a character is what the audience will relate to. This is just my opinion no hate to anyone.
