I am struggling with the consistency, one day I play incredible well, next day I am so stupid that I cannot even get a ball in. To some extent, I can understand my lack of consistency because of my perfectionism and so I try to improve even when something works well. Technically I struggle the most when I play against those who play me short in the service box and generally low balls (can be sitters or non sitters). I come too fast on the ball, I finish wrong, a mess, I do not angle the racket at contact. I do not know. Maybe you can make a video about how do I approach such balls. There are a few videos on youtube but they did not solve my problem. I like that you are showing the wrong doing, sometimes you learn more from mistakes. Thank you!

Thus is such a good video. I was hitting all of my forehands floaty and out and I could not figure out why. My backhand was solid, and I was trying to compare the two to see why there was such a vast difference, but it's only when I saw tip 2 that I understood why. I know you're exaggerating the tilt for teaching purposes, but you're so right. When I open my shoulders too early, it naturally tilts the face up just a tad, but that's all that's needed to make the ball float. On my backhand there isn't anything similar, I just stay side on and hit through. There is no pulling or early opening my shoulders, but wow...definitely learnt something just now.

Balance forward i.c. with loose topspin hand does it for me! I searched for this balance solution my whole life and now I play at least 1 level better, by controlled hitting hard. Double partners beg me to hit hard now this way, as it results in easy pickings at the net.

Well done. My only small push back is w a part of #3. I hardly never try to step back w a deep or high bouncing ball out of my strike zone. I always try to hit these balls on the rise, like a half volley. I don't always hit a gd shot, but this technique takes time away from my opponent. Generally better skilled players hit the ball on the rise. TU again. Well done.

I watched one video where 2 minute tennis guy Ryan says to use your non dominant arm after it is extended to track ball and then begin your swing from loaded position by pulling your non dominant arm away which he says will help your hip turn, what do you think, as long as head stays over ball good or bad advice ?

Working with my 14yr old, I came to the same conclusion last night... In the matter of fact, almost in the same order as what you are describing here. 1, "death-grip": while hitting against the ball machine, my kid's stroke look great. However, during match and when the heat is on, she hits like a savage and subconsciously grips the racket more. We need to fix this. 2, This is a big one and so many coaches don't even notice it (Thank you for pointing out) The LEFT HAND! Yes, Slo-mo video of my kid's FH show that she opens the left shoulder too soon, hanging the left hand out wide (for balance) causing the right side to lag while leading with right elbow. This obviously will cause the racquet head to open up. Now, add the death-grip and its game over.... Great suggestion regarding the head movement! Again, so many overlook this simple fix.. 3, The open stance - falling back. As crazy as it sounds it's being taught by coached in my region. Not on purpose though. They teach the "How to absorb the deep ball while in open stance" Yes, great advice however little kids wont understand the difference between absorbing and falling backward. Took me over 2 years to 'unteach' this technique to my daughter. By the time she turned 12, this falling back "absorbing" was part of her muscle memory. Great content, wish I saw this a year ago. Thanks for sharing!! Sub'd.

I just hope you will let your daughter will know how blessed she is to have a parent like you who will teacher her, find out ways to help her weaknesses at such a young age. My son and I did not discover the joy of tennis until half a year ago, my son is already 11.5 years old, but he loves tennis. He maybe too too late to the game, but we are going to do our best with limited budget and resources, hopefully that will leave both of us with no regret and can continue to enjoy tennis for the rest of our lives.
@ginomarone8831
@ginomarone8831 Год назад
@@HC-wt1cg thanks for the comment! Btw it’s never too late and at age 12 he can certainly ramp up to the level of those who have been doing it since age 6-7. By the way, your kid should NOT be compared or better yet - measured by others as every single kid has their own development cycle. Don’t ever let coaches discourage you Bc of the “late” (?) start. If you hang around tennis clubs long enough you will notice some kids are already fairly “advanced” in terms of movement and stuff - Then you see the same kid 6-8 months down the road with essentially the same technique / power / movement. On the flip side, you’ll see kids “struggling” - then all of the sudden something clicks (can be many things setting off the toggle switch lol) and wow! Kid on the next level! 😼😼

Also pick a racquet and string that works for you. A racquet with 16x19 pattern will give you more spin than the same racquet with 18x20 pattern. A multi filament synthetic gut like Wilson NXT or Sensation might have too much trampoline like effect. A polyester string might not have enough power. You could try using a less powerful synthetic gut or a combination of synthetic gut in the main strings and poly in the cross strings. If the racquet has too much power for you, it will be hard to keep the ball in the court. Make sure to have an eastern or semi-western forehand grip and not continental grip. Swing from high around to low to get topspin. Players might be falling back on the forehand because the racquet has too much power for them and they are trying to prevent hitting the ball long. If the player is comfortable with the racquet and string, they will feel that they can take a full swing and use the optimum amount of power and spin.
@bournejason66
@bournejason66 2 года назад
At 5.0 or below, one should not rely on the strings to keep the ball in. The contribution from strings type is only 10% or smaller. Tennis warehouse has a very nice article about it. Work on the fundamentals and it will pay you dividends in the long run.

I always try to protect my contact point, i.e. make contact at the same distance out in front. My forehand does not usually fly way long and I think it is because I am successfully protecting the contact point. Your contact point will be determined by your grip. I am using an Eastern grip. A correct consistent contact point ensures that the racquet face is roughly vertical at contact. It is true. Now, occasionally my forehand does fly way long, even though I have plenty of time to set up and my contact point is correct distance out in front. It is a real unsolved mystery. 🤔🚨👮 It often happens when I get an easy ball and am excited and want to attack it. Watching this video has given me a possible clue. Maybe, in my excitement, I am opening my left shoulder too early. This will cause the racquet face to open up at contact, even if the contact point distance is correct. Will have to check this. Although it is strange that opening the left shoulder would affect the right hitting shoulder. Also note that the common rec player error, *by far* , is *NOT* opening the left shoulder, and just letting the left arm dangle. You will often see players "hug themselves".

What is your suggestion on while hitting the ball that is at the contact? Is it still 4 out of 10?

Thanks Pieter for the tips, I got a question about the pulling shoulder one doesn’t Del Porto pull his shoulder when hitting his big forehands is that why he is frequently injured, correct me if I am wrong
@pieterbeckertenniscoaching5808
@pieterbeckertenniscoaching5808 2 года назад
No all players do pull their shoulder. For momentum and power. But if the timing is off and pulling to much the ball will start pulling out. Hope that helps

I feel like for me it happens when I accidentally hit the ball flat when I’m trying to hit a heavy topspin ball way over the net. I grew up playing flat on fast courts and I’m trying to change my style. It’s frustrating trying to construct a point with heavy balls and then accidentally launching a flat ball. Sometimes I think maybe I should just go back to playing flat
