Lifetime fitness has been converting tennis and basketball courts into pickleball courts and they’re not slowing down. From hosting pro pickleball tournaments to converting even more courts, I got the chance to talk with Lifetimes CEO Bahram Akradi and find out why lifetime is all in on pickleball.

I saw the match with the kid he lost to. The kid moves and slides like Djokovic.

Pickleball definitely brings people together. It's one way my entire family can come together, have fun, and get good exercise. My 10 year old can be seen playing rec games with a lovely 91 year old lady at the community center. I can't think of another sport like that.

Lifetime in Rochester, Michigan converted part of their parking lot to PB courts and put a dome over it in the winter months. It's really a terrific idea, and the courts are so pleasant to play on. Kudos to the CEO!!

He is spot on...its the most marketable real estate build for the future of sports. ,what makes pb so addictive? .. From the moment you start play, you can suck and be unbelievable at the same time. Finally an ageless unstoppable game even baby boomers can happily take ownership blame for this phenomenon. Gives older and younger enthusiasts a reason to play and enjoy be friendly again.

Living in a 55 plus community?!The players need to check in at the gym.Since I spend literally,on average?3 hours there?(run, lift, stretch, lol)🥵It ALWAYS excites me to see SO many heading out to those courts to play!!!Some type of movement is better than no movement! For many this is their only activity and I couldn’t be more happy for them!Pickle ball seems to have literally changed their lives!👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻

pretty great that the country has such a good franchise that pushes fitness and pickleball. high quality facilities that will hopefully last the oversaturation of the market in the upcoming years

Something that no one is talking about pickle ball: There is a massive downside to it for many of the people who get addicted. They let the obsession replace other important aspects of their lives. Time with family, time from workout, replacing other workouts such a strength training and cardio. For people who manage the time responsibly it’s a fun hobby but for people who obsess over it I actually see them getting in worst shape and in some cases injured. More people are going to chiropractors due to pickle ball injuries. A good amount of people at lifetime fitness are replacing fitness classes with playing pickle ball, I see more people gaining the weight back and struggling to lose more weight wondering why when they spend hours playing. I'm new to this sport and love it but I play it in a mindful way.

This is great now with Regards to LifeTime Folsom. If we could cover the courts with a structure and then put solar on top of the structure to help pay for power at club it would be the best of both worlds!

Kyle.. take that bet! The drama, shit talking, and coed aspect of team pickleball is the future. Singles of course will be a part of it.

I like his take on singles ultimately positioning itself as the number one draw in pickles down the line… For the casual viewer it makes for more dramatic exchanges on screen. Difficult to see or understand the subtle nuances played out in epic double matchups. …But if you really play pickles, I think doubles is far more impressive and addicting, it has that skillset and chess like feel that can’t be matched be any other game. It will always be the crown jewel for the pickle purists.

I think it suffers the same as many sports. I play golf. To the causal/non player it seems boring to watch on tv. But I as a player see the strategy and approaches different players take, know how hard the shots are they hit. Same with billiards. I hated watching it until I started playing and get into it and guess what they’re aiming for, what finish are they leaving their opponent, are they targeting a weakness or playing a strength etc. I think as more people play the “this is boring” will dissipate. Also I hate tournaments that don’t have the down the line view like tennis matches.

I personally don’t like what he’s doing adding a lot of pickle ball courts in life time. I’m from Wisconsin and I’m almost positive the one I used to go to is the only one in Wisconsin so you should find it very quickly. Anyways pickle-ball really felt forced on people at the gym and they took down basketball courts to add them. I think it’s dumb and now since there’s only one court for basketball it’s to busy to play and you will get hurt almost every time just playing. I also feel like pickle ball doesn’t even have many people playing it. Pickle ball only has on average only around 8 people are on the court while basketball had like 20-30. It has got so bad we’re we had to leave life time. I know the damage is down and nothings gonna happen but next time I please tell them to get rid of like the movie theater or something instead nobody ever goes to the dang movie theater.

This is perhaps one day in the near future, two top females pb players vs two top males pb players would be possible and exciting.

“…and always will be” is a limiting belief in anything in life. I wish more people had an open mind in anything they do! The world would be better because of it.
