Why Anakin DIDN'T Get a Red Lightsaber When He Became Vader (CANON & LEGENDS) 

Simple answer: He didn’t have the time to create one. Order 66 had to be executed right away!

The red lightsaber with a Red Background probably bothered Lucas too much, Same reason He Changed Luke's blue lightsaber to Green because of Tatooines bright blue Sky.

Thanks for covering every angle. Operation Knightfall and the massacre of the Separatist on Mustafar happened almost immediately after Anakin's fall to the dark side. Vader was barely initiated into the Sith. Palpatine wouldn't have gifted a red crystal or taught how to bleed one when loose ends were still yet to be tied. In the RotS videogame, if Vader kills Obi-wan, Sidious meets him on Mustafar and gifts a red lightsaber to his apprentice.

His lightsaber didn't turn red in Episode 2 when he killed all of those Tuskan Raiders either, and he was in a lot of pain at the time he did it compared to Operation Nightfall.

I've always loved the legends explanation better..I don't know WHY Disney felt they needed to change it and make kyber crystals nothing but mood rings..that was a change NOT needed..

Imo him using a blue saber is more terrifying because of the visual horror of a jedi using their own weapon against their own

The real reason is obvioulsy an artistic choice. Lucas thought to get a red lightsaber to anakin. But blue vs blue on Mustafar is so much beautiful than red vs blue.. red on a red lava background would not be a good artistic choice at all.

In my opinion Anakin wasn’t completely 100% turned to the dark side and became Vader. There was still a trace of Anakin but after the duel with Obi-Wan and lost his remaining limbs and thought Padme was dead that was when he fully turned into Darth Vader

so.. if the crystal is alive.. .wouldn't that mean that the jedi and the sith enslave their crystals?

I always thought the way there were at least 2 ways Obi wan could have gotten Anakin's blue saber and let Vader have a red saber. 1. When General Grievous takes their lightsabers, he manages to hold on to Anakin's. Obi wan gets it back after he defeats General grievous. Anakin gets the lightsaber from palpatine as a gift for his rescue. 2. The blue saber is the reconstructed one from episode 2 that was sliced by the machine. After the end of the movie it shows that Obi-Wan somewhere along the lines acquired the parts and Obi-Wan makes a line about that he'll reconstruct it for Luke. You could have it that Anakin starts off the movie with a red light saber along with his dark cloak that he was wearing being things that concern the counsel even though he's fighting for the light side. I personally was disappointed that they didn't use a red saber in the big showdown between will be one and Vader in episode 3. It made it hard to tell from a distance which one was which.

I know this wouldn’t work in Star Wars, but what if it changed color by absorbing the users force alignment. Kind of like bleeding, but automatic, and would work for the other colors. Then we would see if slowly turn red throughout the trilogy.

Politically Sidious wanted to keep Vader in his Anakin form as his right hand. Because Palpatine groomed Anakin and soon the senate and the Republic itself referred to him as "the good jedi" despite the growing hatred against the Jedi Order. And much like Dooku, palpatine wanted the Republic/Empire to refer to his apprentice by his real name, Anakin and kept his blue blade, which would've kade the jedi purge easier. Had Anakin(Vader) not been burned on Mustafar, and the public saw "The Good Jedi" standing next to their new Emperor, the empire would've been unstoppable.

See. Back in Kotor you would see dark Jedi using the lightsabers they fell with. Most common was purple but you got some blue, green and yellow too. Nowadays you make crystals bleed turning a lightsaber into a wand from Harry Potter.

The reason I don't like the bleeding thing is that, while it works as a Sith ritual, to make the apprentice prove that he is truly devoted to the dark side, dark Jedi like the dude in Jedi Survivor are doing it too for some reason and I don't see how that makes sense. Dark Jedi like him usually believe to be in the right. Even Anakin, at the end of Ep3, thought he was in the right. Why would they then start a bleeding ritual to admit to themselves that they fell?

Because why would you change out the crystal or saber you're already proficient with, when you already got a good functioning one and you got work to do? Exar kun used a blue one anyways. As for """Canon"""... Because George Lucas knew bleeding was a dumber concept than midichlorians so he never made such a mechanic, and is the weirdest retcon to the entire series. Actually come to think of it, going red (in legends) would have been a tradition at this point, and having some symbolic meaning (including mockery of the jedi)... But Technically if the entire order is gone the symbolism would matter a lot less.

The reason why its because i think george lucas wanted it his original lightsaber because for obi wan to give it to luke otherwise anakin's lightsaber would be no where to be seen and if obi wan bleeded the red kyber crystal i think it would be green

It's funny because originally Anakin was supposed to have a red lightsaber in an early draft. I think it should have been red, so to let the viewer know that this is Vader, not Anakin.

Exar Kun never went to a red blade, and that made him quite unique. Anakin simply not "having the time" to construct one or change out the crystal (or "bleed" it like the edgelord concept brought to us by Disney) is a bit less biting than if the original films hadn't locked his saber into being taken by Obi-Wan after the duel. Vader with a blue saber would have been more intriguing than Anakin with a red one. I don't have any respect for the bleeding concept. It always came off as some after-the-fact retcon cooked up by one or two members of the "Story Group" who have watched far too much anime. Even Jedi Survivor showed how little impact this "ritualistic" action truly has versus a dark sider having to craft a crystal all their own. Gera just opens up his saber and turns the crystal from yellow to red during a cutscene. I don't know if that was meant to be played seriously or was snuck in for laughs at the "crystal bleeding" lore being so silly and off the cuff, but it felt very much the latter. A silly notion for sabers married with the deeply unpopular High Republic era, all in one. The game was at least decent despite how un-optimized it is.
