To “knowing what customers want”, I think we should also add “anticipating what customers might come to want”. Describing it solely as the former assumes that all the “needs” are already there and a company simply fulfills them. When it comes to new types of technology, however, “needs” and desires are often created or at least amplified and shaped in a certain way by the very techs.
EatingAwayTime and all my apple devices always sucks in the user experience with the lack of simple features that android has had since a decade now! Why did apple added all those new features on ios13?! Good question the lack of a proper file management system is my main problem with apple products and also the user interface that I simply hate
@@carholic-sz3qv I mean, its your opinion, definitely some people prefer iOS like me,some Android. Both equally great, but one overpriced af (Coming from an Apple fan)
Years ago, when people were ridiculing Apple for not having a stylus for its premium iPhones, Apple didn't cave in to these ridiculous demands. Instead, they created a stylus for iPad, knowing that iPad users needed it more. Today, no major smartphone companies make styluses, including Samsung.
Since 1-2 years, John's videos are often based on controversy with titles like "I hate Apple" or "Why Apple fails" and things like that. I feel like he jump into the "clickbait" side and just want to attract as many people as possible and this kind of stuff is always very popular on youtube. Its sad because I used to like him with Techno Buffalo in the 2010-16 era.
I am so glad we have RU-vidrs like you, helping us extrapolate the truth from big tech channels with millions of subscribers where when they say something, many who watch will instantly believe that person is right, just because of their number of subscribers and their “credibility”. You help us see past all that with counter arguments they chose not to use for the sake of getting enough viewers to fill their pockets with Ad revenue. I wish TechTubers would just be straight forward and do their full research, otherwise I’d question their credibility and their subscribers.
Thank you!!!! I am a 10+ year customer with apple. And there is one reason why I have them and will keep them... their ecosystem. Everyone says and will always say that Apple is behind the times. Apple is never behind the times. (Samsung gave journalists a Samsung Fold prototype and they all broke them. Pealing off a layer of the screen they weren't supposed to peel off. Now they have hinge issues.) Apple has an R&D team that waits. They wait for the market to be ready. That's, why Apple was 2 years behind the 4G network because they wanted to make the device faster, and not just rely on a new cell phone network. Now I'm ok with everything that Apple does, not because it's Apple. Because I NEVER picked up their product and was never dissatisfied, And that is Apple's ultimate goal. And lastly, when a kid is in an electronics store, watch what tablet they play with...
I would like the «informed» youtubers to have a competition every year. EVERY YEAR. About we, the consumers. What we really need. No whining about the phone weighing 5 grams too much. For the normal day. For the normal people. I really want to spend less on RU-vid.
I really don't understand why people hate it when other people use Apple products or hate Apple so much, if you are so confident with yours why hating what others use, its because deep inside you want it that's it. If you can't afford it just be cool, let someone else enjoy, after all its their money not yours.. If something is not for you, relax, go for whats yours.
Well it looks like it's into the humans personality for some reason. We always want to be the one who's choosing right so everything "I" do it better than others. You have this everywhere no matter if it's technology, music, sports, cars and so on. Only me is correct, everyone else is wrong - basically. The only thing I don't get is why it's so extreme when it comes to Apple. Even people who have no idea about the technology or something are saying the hate Apple literally "because it's Apple". But yeah, well said my friend. Would be much easier if more people are thinking this way ^^
Tim R. Seriously you're all talking about the apple hate is apple the only hated company!? All those apple fanboys RU-vidrs even apple uses Google services there isn't a perfec5 company out there they work all together to Improve everyone lives , why doubt we have windows bootcamp on Macs!? Why do we have microsoft, Google services on apple devices!? Just chill and also be the war it's stupid and unnecessary
Jony Ive's departure from Apple is the best thing that could have happened for both parties. Ive has been designing himself into a corner for years and he really can deviate or experiment as an artist with a company as huge as Apple. Similar, Apple's product lines have been a slave to form over function year after year because of his design direction. I'm excited to see what both of them will do in the years to come.
Garrett Green no. Jony Ive departure is actually more like because Jony Ive cannot have a room for innovation, because Tim Cook would rather focused on making profit and cut some slack on innovation and creativity. Tim Cook showed almost zero interest in design. This made Jony Ive and his team frustrated. These current designs are slave to Tim Cook, and not Jony Ive. If it was up to Jony Ive, you would already see a rather radical departure from current designs.
Li Yong Chen I don’t doubt there’s some truth in that. But cook is a businessman, not an innovator. He will always make the safe decision to ensure profits. Unfortunately this goes against what Apple was under Jobs.
Whoah! Did not expect to be the 7th viewer on one of these amazing videos! And also, when are we going to see a ‘why do android tablets suck’ video? Keep up the good work Greg! I love your videos!
@@RedPMD "Android Tablets dont suck, Amazon fire and Galaxy Tab". "I hate all Apple products" Cool Cool The iPad laughs at you and the rest of the tablet market
Apple has BEEN listening to customers 🙄 Anyone saying otherwise has failed to keep up with the available options. Edit: as of the release of this video the Mac Pro 2019 isn’t out yet. Phrasing, buddy.
As a consumer the only thing I dislike about Apple is the exorbitant prices (lets not talk about work ethics and such), apart from that I agree with what this video shows
You can make some excuses, such as they don't do the same amount data collection as google and microsoft (as far as we know) nor do they have ads in their os like windows, and that you need to account for things other than just the spec sheet. And some products like the imac pro is very competitively priced compared to even diy solutions. Regardless some are way overpriced, like their 1K stand.
Esa Allah i don’t like it one bit. Not only did they put very little effort into making the new design make sense, they also made some of the apps waay less intuitive to use. The reminders app for example: they stealth-added a priority feature to reminders and for the first few months I was scratching my head trying to figure out why my reminders didn’t pop up notifications or make sounds.
I've always thought Apple was a good name for them because of how much they like to polish things. I grew up with Macs and every time I used a Windows PC, it felt like everything had an extra step or two. I'm sure that's just familiarity, but every complaint I heard from a Windows user trying a Mac ironically had to do with the Mac being more user-friendly, to the point they felt like they were using a toy. It seems throughout their history, every design review hinges on, "but is it easy to use?"
Good video but you're missing a point: Apple introduces changes WAY later than other manufacturers, after customers have begged for those changes for years; for instance the wireless charging or fast charging capability of iPhones. Another example is a proper file management system for the iPads, which we still won't get with iPadOS, and that's a shame. But at least we get external drive support, after having begged for it for years.
I don't think so. Normally Apple tries to PERFECT the techn instead of being the first. Wireless Charging is s slight example of that. If you put a Ansroid phone on a Qi charger it will take several seconds to start charging. With an iPhone? It starts before the phone has even touched the charger. Same goes for things like Split view which works a million times better than on any Android phone, even on Samsung phones which had this for years. Another one being the Apple Pencil which is still the digital pen with the fastest latency on the market which is really important. It's more precise and so on. And Apple is also bringing many technologies to the table YEARS before the whole competition. Take FaceID for example which is much easier and more secure than TouchID. Or the ECG on the Apple Watch. Both are features people appreciate now while they didn't knew they wanted it. And both are years ahead. Oh and with iPadOS we DO get a really nice file manager. At least a file manager that is doing what customers want. Most customers don't want something where you can change literally everything in the system. It has to work well. And that's what Apple is doing.
You just blew Jon's video out of the water. Great perspective. I have time and again left a note on many RU-vidrs channels especially Jon's to please not make videos for the hack of making one and waste people's time. Your knowledge on Apple products and understanding of their business model is great. I am a Pixel user but enjoy your videos
Honestly, I have always felt that Jhon Retinger was never really great at his job! Granted, some of his videos were okay, his personality was never really magnetic!
A good video and some great points. Though not sure I agree with the smart watch part. Where are others failing? Are you referring to specific companies?
The point in this video is correct however the idea of "customers don't know what they want until they see it" has gone away at apple as somebody who was really into apple back before 2012 I would have agreed completely. Yet, why I no longer believe this is that ever since apple has not delivered anything groundbreaking that people did not realize they needed. This magic has disappeared with apple but is starting to show more in Chinese tech like the Vivo Nex a phone with a full display (actual) like what the iPhone X was supposed to have but then got notched.
Brayan Nexon Although Apple is not really what they use to be with Steve Jobs but to say they don’t have any groundbreaking product is completely wrong... may be you never heard of Airpod Apple watch series 4.. ipads are phenomenal but yeah under utilised.... but they r bouncing back slowly.. just hope it’s not temporary
Examples of apple being the same as the past apple 1 the apple watch 2 the airpods 3 FACE ID 4 iPhone gesture system John's video did bring up the valid points about apple starting to listen to customers about some particular features but that doesn't mean apple has lost its roots I still believe that apple will pull out another iPhone like product
Well, I think that Apple has been more willing to challenge even itself, despite having such a glorious history Apple's trying hard not rely on them. Steve Jobs seems to have a lot stronger ideas on what a 'perfect product' would be.
Make video on Google Nexus and Pixel lines of phones! :) It's only OEM of Android phone world that prioritize software over hardware with long term support update.
A very nice Apple commercial. Apple is a very closed system. They control the entire stream of their products from hardware to software. I remember when mac was going to sell licences for others to build faster stronger macs, but then they found the others were also cheaper and better made. Boy did they pull the plug on that.
Jon Rettinger has zero insight as a tech youtuber. He unboxes and reviews stuff, but that’s where his channel value ends. His opinions are often blend and generic, lack of personal touch, and this is why his channel met a dead end of growth in the past few years. He’s regurgitating many tech specs that’s been posted everywhere. I’m not surprised he’s claiming apple is changing because that’s the most convenient/current way to look at it. Personally I don’t hate him but I just don’t care for his opinion or his channel.
If you really wanna know... Apple: lowered their profit margins, actually became a better company even without Steve Jobs, used the same design for iPhones because it was good (Samsung, Pixel, Lg did it too but nobody bat an eye... and their models were so much uglier), is not making iPhones more expensive but is making more expensive iPhones, is still a valuable company, is not innovating much because the smartphone technology is close to its peak and can’t do much (now it’s just a stupid fight of gimmicky features among major brands) is not doomed like many think, is not so bad like many think, is not just for dumb people like many think, it’s really not like many think in general but they’re just too busy screaming “sheeeeeeeeps” that they won’t hear anything else. Android’s cock so up in their ass so they just can’t objectively give credit where it’s due. Android and Windows have a plethora of elements coming from Apple’s past innovation, from drag and drop of folders to backup systems. They just don’t know it because they have LEDs on their GPUs making them blind. They are just as much of a sheep as many Apple fans are.
I don't think 2009 apple notebook lineup confusing, but today is, it is more confusing then ever. Back then the choice was so obvious, my dad would get the white ibook and i would get the macbook pro for work in production. I thought it made so much sense unlike today. Please bring back those days.
As a former Apple user I think Apple has lost its magic touch for me, go on, argue with me, I will be happy to reply, as far as I'm concerned, I have had a much happier experience with Windows + Android
@@suhailcouto1832 For Windows, the file explorer was awful imo compared to Apple's finder. Forced Windows updates are also really bad, at least with Macs, I can choose when to update. DAWs are another thing, sure Windows has great DAWs but I'm starting out with recording music & can't afford a fully fledged DAW. GarageBand is the best free DAW I've used & it's made me want to save up for Logic Pro, which is surprisingly undercuts the competition. Resale value is another thing, something I'll also bring up with Android, the 2014 MacBook Pro sells way more than a laptop with the same specs from that same year. Also AirDrop, I love being able to share files between my Apple devices with ease, no need for WiFi or internet in general. iMessage as well, it's so well integrated into Apple's software, 2 factor authentication codes appear as predictive text on Safari. There's no AirDrop alternative on Windows or Android & there's iMessage alternative but they're either buggy, not private or nobody uses them, & they don't have that 2 factor authentication feature. For Android first of all I don't really care about customisation. And it's not private, it's Google's software. Sure you can opt-out but there's problems with that like Google not telling us about features that track as & I can't be arsed going into privacy settings every other day, opt-out systems only work if Google tells you what's going on & what they're doing imo. Most Android phones (at least what I've seen are huge), I hate using phablet sized phones. Even moderns Samsungs (who offer smaller options) are a bit too big for me. Android phones (at least that I've used) don't age nearly as well as iPhones. I still daily an iPhone 5s, it runs iOS 12 & it runs great. 3rd party apps, games, the lot. I can't say that about my old Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini I used to have, released in 2012. When I buy something, I want it to last, the 5s has done that for me so well. And updates, Android phones get 3 max worth of updates, while the 5s got 6 years worth of updates & the 6s may even get 7 years of updates. Custom ROM is an option but I don't want to tinker my phone, I just want it to work.
Excellent analyse! Love your videos! But for pity, stop these ads in the middle of your videos. Two commercials on a ten-minute video is way too much. The video must be recharged every time, and when you have a slow internet connection, it's really painful! Just one before the video, that's enough. But that being said, it's all good! Keep up the good work!
I agree with your point about Steve Jobs listening to the customer. What Steve Jobs was doing was to find innovative solutions to problems people have. In other words, no one asked for a colorful computer with a see-through cover, but the iMac did solve a lot of problems people had with personal computers at that time.
I agree with Jon. Apple does not listen to customers. If they did why did they remove the headphone jack? Why did they remove the charging brick? Why did they remove the shuffle feature in photos? Ever try to transfer files to and from your PC with an iPhone? This is a company whose whole purpose of existing is to nickel and dime not only the consumer but developers as well.
TBH I didn't really care when they removed the headphone jack back then because I was already all about wireless headphones and then they came out with the best wireless earbuds in the world. Not to mention the 5W brick they included with iphones were pretty useless and slow charging, I never even used those and used some other third party 20-30W chargers. I think if you only want to see the negative side of something, that's all you will see. I quite enjoy the iOS experience as a user and that same seamless experience can never be provided by Android.
Bro! Even the apple’s dedicated youtubers are more mooore refined than android ones. Uuhh... How many android dedicated youtubers exist? Anyway, I love your channel and its content Greg 🙏🏻
Pichkalu Pappita Or, there are so many different Android devices coming out so soon that AREN’T at all different from each other that they couldn’t get any good content out of it in an Android dedicated channel. Besides, Android is just an operating system. It’s not like Android is a company. Apple is a specific company that has a known list of products, but Android is a massive operating system that is used too much as an umbrella term for every phone that isn’t made by Apple.
You ar very funny mate I'm seriously wondering how all those apple users or isheeps they basically uses Google and Microsoft services and finally tell why does apple also have not one but many RU-vid channels!? Why can't apple compete with Google on all those services like Google search or RU-vid...... Tell me
@@carholic-sz3qv You know it is the same reason why Google and Microsoft cannot compete with Apple in the phone and computer market. And don't say Android, because it is not a phone it is an os, Google makes the non selling Pixel. And Microsoft's Surface line, although very good, do not sell any where near the Mac line-up. All I am saying is these are very different companies. Apple is a hardware company, where as Google and Microsoft are primarily software companies.
BoxHead 42 seriously wtf are you talking about!? Do you even know that it's Apple that can't even compete with Microsoft and Google!! Google and Microsoft are basically software company and they have the most popular and most used online services on earth even in terms of market share android is about 87% but iOS 13 % and Microsoft about 85% of pc so gtfo
@@carholic-sz3qv Yep and you still did not dispute my claim. What you did do is agree that Googke and Microsoft are both software companies. And Apple is not, they are a HARDWARE company. Duh! You are an idiot, wrapped ever so tightly in a moron.
I'm not going to lie I'm not the biggest apple fan as a matter fact I've never owned the Apple product in my life . But apple is definitely the Nintendo of tech a lot of people may hate them but you can't deny that they're the ones who start trends. If Nintendo can make a comeback in gaming Apple can make a comeback in tech
I don't think Jon is wrong with anything that he said in his video. Apple dictates what their consumers must be satisfied with and it worked for them over the years. No doubt about that. Also because they had the foresight to not disappoint their customers and more often they surprised their customers with something that they never expected. But, it is very clear these days that they have curbed their ego to do things as the customer demands. Their business model isn't working. They are even releasing budget versions of their own products. Back then, bringing OLED screens, larger displays weren't because they listened to their customers. It was because every competitor had those features. Bringing file system to the IpadOS shows that Apple's ego is defeated. People were impressed with the superior hardware of the Ipad pro but were totally disappointed by the lack of file support.
Seeing Steve Ballmer made me feel like he’s been ripping off customers for a long time. Windows Mobile always run super slow and only HTC could make it look better. Darn you, MS!
Because Steve Jobs is dead and Tim Cook is in charge... of nothing. This man is not a tech person and my mother knows more about apple than he does. It’s one mistake after another and now that the boat 🚣♀️ is sinking everyone is getting off of it. (Joni Ive) the master of creativity 😍
It's a stupid marketing process they make a 32gb iPhone and a 256gb and a 512gb and they don't offer a 128gb or a 64gb version how retarded is that!? And they also basically uses rams from Samsung , Toshiba...
It's an accessibility feature, it doesn't take full advantage of the mouse at all. It just simply uses it as a pointing device. If it was fully featured, that would just make it another Mac but with an OS that's awful as a point & click OS.
Why avoiding the butter fly keyboard case? Is adopting this type of keyboard to make a macbook 1mn thinner is listening to consummers or knowing what they want?
The Pro line prices definitely changed, but the iPhones didn’t. A 64GB iPhone 6 original cost is the same as the iPhone XR. The iPhone X and XS are basically their top tier/pro models.
@@theletterp5060 I mean the starting price increased. Also iPhone 6, iPhone X and XS are all flagship models. But XR is a budget model with some features deleted.
It’s all perspective. People forget that Steve Jobs also had failed products, just as he had amazing products. But since Steve isn’t in the equation anymore, now apples failed products are seen as this evil thing, and the good products are seen as comforming and non innovative or whatever.
Apple would not be successful if they didn’t listen to their customers. The distinction, however, is that they give them what they want, vs what they THINK they want. But to do that, you have to listen even MORE so, not less.
Doing what the user might wanna have... a tiny little 3.5mm headphone jack... Touch ID... a user switchable battery... upgradeable RAM... a drive you can take out of a machine to rescue your data... I mean... I could go on with this further but I think that should be enough at first...
@@user-rz7hg9my6hspot on my friend, the sick part of this is Apple products themselves are very expensive. Hello guys I love Apple, but Yesterday after washing my hands and not mosturizing, I went to touch my iPhone XS which was connected to a charger, and I felt vibration or radiation while touching the metal part of the phone, but after I disconnected it I didn’t feel it anymore, what could this be?
checkmate hey! That’s actually normal. It means there’s no ground on your wall outlet (no 3 prong) and you can feel some current on the metal if you brush your finger against it. Don’t worry, it’s not harmful at all, it’s just a little weird feeling :)
