Matt if Apple entering the gaming console market could be a game-changer, especially if they incorporate their powerful A18 Pro or M4 chip. With their expertise in hardware and a massive app ecosystem, a gaming console upgrade to Apple TV could make waves. Exciting to see how it could handle AAA games, especially if they integrate it with services like Apple Arcade. Would love to know more about pricing and when it could hit the shelves!🥵❤️
I'm not much of a gamer myself, but I think this would be sweet if they did this with the Apple TV. I really don't see them doing that though unless they fully win over game developers, who will want to distribute their AAA titles through Steam most likely and not take a 30% cut through the Apple app store. I really don't see Apple doing this though - and I can't see them ever developing a game controller with actual physical buttons on it. If they had their own way they would develop a one-button 'magic controller' that responds to Siri. Can you imagine trying to play a game shouting 'Hey Siri - turn, left turn right!' or 'Hey Siri! Fire!' - And then Siri responding... 'Here's what I found on the web for Fire...'. It would be an outright disaster unless Apple radically changed it's stance towards game developers and attitude towards gaming.
Apple gaming system would be exciting, but I’ve learned over the years that Apple doesn’t play well with others. They have a great devices, but they refuse to open them up to game with big game developers . They have so much potential, but they stand in their own way
If they combine the gaming with the Apple TV, take my money!! I see them being priced at $299 for the lowest storage model and go up by $50 to $100 for each higher storage model! I would love this as I would mostly use it for the streaming TV, but it gives me games that I can play from time to time. Like I’ve said before, I use to be a gamer when I was younger, but don’t have the time for that to go buy a full blown PS5 or PS5 Pro! This would be all that I would need for the rainy day gaming!
Well seeing how the M4 chip handles Ray Tracing pretty well, I can see Apple actually doing well in the Console Market, but I would say they'd need to make it affordable
For a 3D Artist like me, I love Ray Tracing, but when it comes to Video Games, I'd rather the FPS be above 60 FPS than be locked to 30fps because of some dumb ray tracing
Even fps is also not that much necessary.. 30fpa Zelda botw and Mario kart 8. Sold more than 40m copies … it’s all about how much fun, relaxing and competitive…
I want to play huge multiplayer games with friends in a party with a microphone, like on the PlayStation. (Battlefield, Sea of Thieves, Gran Turismo 7 etc) Until this happens, there is no real gaming on the Mac.
Around this time and next year, tech I would like to get would be the Iphone 16 pro as my used Iphone 13 pro had issues that weren't disclosed when I bought it from Amazon Refurbished.
Thanks for all the hard work and the info, I have a IPhone 13 Pro but still doing perfect so I’m gonna wait until iPhone 17 to decide which one I’ll buy. Also because Apple inteligente is not available
An Apple console would be incredible, integrating the Apple Music library, listen to podcasts and ebooks from your content while gaming on one device, potentially even the Vision Pro connection for an FPS like COD would be wild
I like your ideia of an Apple gaming device. They could easily make a custom M4 chip for that, with more GPU cores and less stuff like vídeo outputs and compressors, USBc 4 ports and many other things which are not necessary for a gaming console. They could even do that on 5mn, with a higher TDP, since the console would not be mobile.
I think the major thing with gaming on the A18/pro or one of the M chips, and making them run better than they would on iPad or iPhone is the ability to add more RAM and more cooling since space is so limited in those other devices. This is a huge opportunity for the Apple TV and I hope Apple takes advantage! They have the capable chips, they just need to use them and make the apps available! And of course, will Apple Intelligence needing 8gb ram I would not be surprised to see the next ATV have at least 8GB. This is honestly what has kept me holding off on finally getting an ATV or HomePods. I would hate to get one and then a few months later have a major upgrade to bring games and/or AI support which right now I think are the major upgrades we would expect next. If it was not for those I would expect any upgrades to be fairly incremental as usual.
I think it's definitely something they should release. it should also be able to stream games on the iPhone/iPad to have a similar experience as the switch
After a few more years you don't need an emulator.. just add about 300million gaming capable devices per year to their side (about 240million iPhone and 60million iPad and Mac/Macbook), in 2 year that is over 1billion gaming devices, even Steam can only offer 120million active users, and Apple store have 10x more renevue like Steam (what is generated from the 15-30% cut off from the devs, alias if the store renevue is more than earned amount of money is also more for the devs). So when Apple alone can offer more users like Steam+Playstation together, and their renevue is about doubled to the $9billion Steam and $30billion Playstation store renevue against $89billion Apple store renevue.. so tell me as a dev why would you still sell your games on Steam for 120million users with $9billion renevue, when somebody else offer you 1,5billion active users with $89billion renevue.. (alias 12x more users who are reacheable, and 11x more spent money by the users compared to Steam or Playstation, even their combined amount is way lower in active users and renevue like Apple alone can offer, and on Apple all games only required 1 dev team, because phone/tablet/laptop/desktop/console use the same Metal API and the same source code on all devices, meanwhile other stores have different methods, like DirectX on Windows, Vulcan on Android, and even if 2 different dev team are used to made the game, you need to buy on both platform meanwhile Apple only use one account on each devices, so your phone purchase will be playable on your desktop/console too with shared save files..)
I definitely would like to see a newer version of the Apple TV that could handle some great games. I would also like to see an updated power Beats Pro. I want the over the ear but want noise canceling added. It’s crazy they still run for 199 and have been the same for years
Would love to see a gaming Apple TV ……. Just having x1 media player would be efficient and would fit into the ecosystem, especially if you get included gaming with apple 1.
Love the sound of this! I’m not a gamer but I definitely did enjoy it when I was young and thought about it again recently for fun … I would love a new MacBook Pro or iPad this year ( actually I would prefer to wait for m5 pro tbh! )
I will try to change my old iPad Pro 10.5 for the iPad Pro 11 M4 until next year!! No man’s sky in an Apple TV in the future is a dream possibly with a18 pro/M4 machine!! Cheers
Ive been considering andf apple tv for a few weeks now and if this were to happen id definitely buy one if for nothing else then for tv watching but I'm still planning on buying a good iPad pro/air to round out my apple ecosystem as soon as possible
I want to play huge multiplayer games with friends in a party with a microphone, like on the PlayStation. (Battlefield, Sea of Thieves, Gran Turismo 7 etc) Until this happens, there is no real gaming on the Mac
I would like to see a new Apple television that includes Apple Intelligence and the ability to play AAA games. What I’d really like to see is Xbox game pass, and the PlayStation plus apps on the Apple TV so that I could play all the games that I want on one platform.
Ive got a M01s rn, works good and im not planning to buy anything this year or hopefully even next year lol(ill buy a phone and laptop once in get in college which is 2026
I'd love to upgrade my 7th gen iPad with a 10th gen, but I'll likely wait until next year. The battery on my current iPad is still okay for reading manga and comics :)
Personally, I think it would be great to bring back the iPod Touch under a rebrand for gaming purposes. We can have a base version with a 60hz panel 2456gb starting storage and a Pro with Pro Motion and 512gb starting storage. No phone or online capabilities , have it wifi reliant to save there and keep it different from iPhone. Maybe have it's dimensions different to be between the size of iPad Mini and iPhone. Thunderbolt so it can do video signal out to another screen like a tv or monitor as well. I think this would be better suited than the Apple Tv with having it be travel ready on the go, with no phone or online capabilities on it's own parents may find it suitable for kids as a device as well.
I mean... if mac mini will get new design and apple tv would need a fan to gaming, they might just add a gaming mode to mac mini and sell apple tv control apart for mac mini + a gaming control like ps5 one (ofc this wont happens but in an ideal world where apple knew to enter this market they would need perks this would be best scenario)
I would 100% be interested in getting an Apple gaming device IF they can get into the world of AAA gaming vs casual. But I feel like that may still be a long way off. For 2025, my hope for an Apple purchase would be a new Apple Watch Ultra 3 if they can actually get to that point and release one by next year.
I’ve been investigating adding AppleTV 4K to my home theater setup. If Apple upgraded it to a gaming platform that would be a definite decision point for me!
If they do they need to upgrade the storage capacity which would help a lot if they ever did bring a gaming console on the market at least 1 tb onwards
I believe we get a cheaper version for 99 dollars/euros and …..a macmini with M4/Pro/Max that can switch in a macOS/tvos/game mode. On that device we can play AAA games with a performance maybe like ps5 or PS5 pro. Yes it makes at the moment no sense but wait until October than I believe we will see, what Apple will bring to us
I can see Apple upgrading the Apple TV box at some point in the future, which will continue to play games from its app store, but to also market it as a game console make less sense, as it begins to overlap with the capabilities of the new M4 Mac Mini that has been allegedly redesigned with a smaller footprint approaching the Apple TV in size. I plan to replace my M2 MacBook Pro with M4 Pro Mac Mini and upgrade my sixth gen iPad Mini to the seventh gen iPad Mini if all the Apple rumours come true.
Honestly, what I’d love to see Apple implement is AI upscaling. Nvidia’s Shield does an excellent job with it, and I think it would be a game-changer if Apple brought a similar system to their Apple TV platform. I could also see Apple introducing a second tier to the Apple TV lineup, with one model dedicated to streaming and another-an “Apple TV Pro”-designed for higher-quality streaming and a stronger focus on gaming. This could really elevate their presence in both the streaming and gaming markets.
I have this feeling that Apple will end up with a slightly larger Apple TV box that includes the M4 SoC, 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB or 256 GB of local storage, a possible USB4 port for storage expansion and WiFi 7 support. The result could be a serious gaming machine that could see for under $300, well below the cost of a new Xbox or PlayStation gaming console.
A gaming Apple TV would be a game changer. But Im not sure the acceptance of the gamers… if the price is the same, maybe it will sell. Idk. Im looking to get the macbook pro m4 pro.
I was just thinking "why is Apple even bothering getting tangled into the console market" then i remembered web3 and metaverse. Yeah they need to get their foot in asap 😂
I would sure expect that this is going to happen. There are so many profits to make in the future in gaming I would be surprised if Apple passed up that opportunity. I look forward to it. Apple, just make Madden for it.
While I would like to see another player in the gaming industry, I don't think Apple will release a gaming console. Probably a better Apple TV that can also play some more graphic-intensive games like Assassin's Creed, Death Stranding, and some others. The thing is that console and PC gamers are more interested in AAA games that need good hardware to run (like the M4 Pro and better, to run AAA with nice graphics and nice FPS), and Apple will not release something with a powerful SOC with a nice price (something important in the gaming industry). Apple is more likely to keep pushing mobile games and Apple Arcade.
