Apple sells way fewer mouses than iPhones, so way less people would be complaining. I'd expect their flagship products to have more thought and money put into the design process.

@Cüneyt Jr. Wrong. While all companies use the design ideas of others to some extent, and that is including Apple, Apple much more sets the trend. That's obvious to anyone paying attention. And when Apple copies the design of others they almost always are late with it but its implementation is almost always industry best. That's because Android makers are competing heavily with each other and race to be the first on a feature (sometimes that's good, sometimes it is a largely worthless feature implemented poorly). The latest example of that is 129 hz refresh. Apple was slow to it while Androids were putting them out as fast as possible, some very crazily done. ProMotion came and it was industry best. Apple will not do a teardrop. Apple will likely not abandon FaceID (again industry best implementation). Apple will not hole punch at the cost of FaceID, they'll implement a hole punch only when it can maintain FaceID as is. As to why Apple does it this way, this very channel Apple Explained has a video about Apple's Human Interface Team and the power they carry over products and features versus competitors whose R&D carries more weight. See it to understand this. BTW there's benefits both from those who are late but do it well and those who get feature out ASAP. The amalgamation of the two usually benefit us consumers.

Still I prefer the phone with headphone jack, so I can listen the music with my favourite headphones without struggling with adapters. TWS are better for commute tho.

Meze Empyreans sounded fine. And they use headphone jacks. They don’t even need amps that powerful to run them! Instead, Apple forces down my throat their airboyes that have no subbass and are unreliable af… I know people who have collections of headphones from the 70s and they sound just as good as back then. I don't get why the whole thing has to be touch sensetive. Basically at this point it would be better if they just had some sort of line telling where touch ends.

The blackberry playbook is one of my favorite examples of useful bezel. A uniform somewhat decent sized bezel around all sides which you could easily grab onto, and they used this bezel space to put front facing speakers (way clearer then the side facing or down facing speakers that almost every modern phone or tablet uses) as well as a pretty nice landscape webcam.

But creating a demand for a product that only you will sell for a fairly long while and thus getting a lot of money at the cost of customer happiness does require removing the headphone jack. Also possible by making your charging port completely unique, in fact, why not do both and get double the money?

Honestly I use wired earbuds more since they’re more convenient for me. I fall asleep listening to music every night, and having to fully recharge my earbuds each morning was a pain, which is why I use wired earbuds. I have a pair of Galaxy Buds Pro that I use when exercising or when I’m not home, but at home I prefer wired.

The only issue I have with bluetooth headphones is the microphone, so far I haven’t found any wireless headphones that has a decent mic, even a 10$ wired pair of headphones has better mic quality than my AirPods Pro, and those are the “least worse” wireless headphones mic I have tried.

The actual reason is that all non apple products which plug in through the lightning connector needs to me MFI (Made For Iphone) certified, in order to get the certification the manufacturers need to pay apple for it. If the product isnt MFI certified the phone will just refuse to charge, play music through wired headphones, etc. It was basically a way of making mire money.

I mean if you care about audio quality then you're better off using a lightning DAC as you can get a more powerful DAC than is built into the iPhone. In which case the phone has a headphone jack is irrelevant as that better quality DAC has one then.

@@jarboer 100% . The only situation where the benefit of wired connection can be audible is when using the microphone on a call, where the other person will hear you better. Although being able to listen to lossless could be fun with a wireless connection.

Also call quality takes a huge hit even the cheapest wired headphones sound better when used as a microphone

I also used Iphone 6 for years until it can’t download the latest ios anymore. I was forced to upgrade my phone :(

Wireless earphones die fast and you can't get radio

Dude, just buy the lightning to 3.5mm adapter and then you can use your wired headphones. From my experience this is a preferred method than the 3.5mm socket as whenever I had wired earphones, the cable would always wear near the 3.5mm plug and break. Even Atomic Floyd Superdarts with kevlar cable wore out in less than 18 months for me. They were my worst purchase ever - over priced at £200, heavy aluminium buds that fell out of your ear and not brilliant in sound quality. After that, I wanted no more from wired earphones and moved to AirPods and then AirPods Pro. I've never looked back as I use them every night with my Apple TV 4K too. Plus films with spacial audio sound truly incredible!!!

Seriously, most phones prior to jack removal had such awful built in DACs I cannot fathom why anyone would even want to listen to music out of their phone. The fact that this meant that Apple was supplying Lightning-3.5mm adapters for a few years literally improved the audio experience even if people weren't aware of it. When I see people listening through $300 headphones out of their phone via the 3.5mm jack I cringe.

IMHO the removal of the jack was virtually nothing. It was something that would eventually come due to not only the shrinking bezels and increase in screen size but the move toward greater water resistance, durability and importantly the internal space of a smartphone has a critical need for every square millimeter they can gain (battery, radio antenna etc). ,There already is a headphone jack, it is called the lightning port (or USB-C or whatever is on an Android). A cheap short dongle clipped on the end of your wired ear buds and there's your headphone port. If I recall the iPhone 7 came with a dongle. I'm sure Androids put them in the box for a generation or two. IMHO if there was a big deal it is that they no longer included free earbuds. That was a substantial money difference to phone makers. But even now Apple and other phone makers could include a set of earbuds with the appropriate connector type or dongle (instead of the standard 2.5 jack). Not including it not only saved them money but all of them increased revenue with TWEB. Apple haters like to crow about Apple but almost all are guilty of this. Some dislike the latency and audiophiles dislike what compression required by Bluetooth does, but overall TWEB are so vastly superior user experience to the average user.

There is actually a nice story there, look for the book of Ken Kocienda, he talks about the development of the iPhone keyboard and it is more interesting than you think. The qwerty keyboard was discarded at first until he made the autocorrect feature (that everyone hates nowadays LOL).

The android world and literally everything else is united, while iPhones are left with an aging connector from 2012. Its really that which stops me going near the prospect of considering an iPhone right now.

If they did so, they would accidentally reveal their next move. It was a great job of them to cover this as a scandal. I remember many criticize them because of this and how weird Airpods looked to them. But, 2 years later, it was a big success. All those cheap Android smartphone manufacturers, not cheap in price, cheap in dignity, realized how stupid they were not to see it and still struggling to catch up with Apple in the true wireless earphones market.

The question now is why they could keep the ligntning port but not the headphone jack?

I use both, wireless for convenience and wired for better quality sound.

More convenient for me - don't have to charge headphones and can plug sound from my phone into car stereo.

Nope, haven't used them since 2015. The sound quality loss is minimal and not even noticed by 90+% of people. And charging the earbuds or headphones every few days is really no issue. So much more convenient then a wire in the way all the time or huge ugly chins on our smartphones.

Sound quality. I use IEM's, could not buy a phone without a Jack.
