It's a shame he mentioned the errata, but didn't see that this class has been completely overhauled there. For those looking the errata/playtest material can be found on the creator's Patron and on the Fabula Ultima Discord.

Nothing official yet, but it’s been in playtest for a while for major errata I like the changes being proposed

@@theebadluckgameryeah it’s a *lot* more impactful now. Summoning is cheaper and it gives you a unique Pulse ability alongside Merge and Dismiss

Yessss fabula ultima slaps Arcanist is wild how much evolution you can get with just a dip, since it’s narrative versatility outside of investing 1 spell per 1 level Arcanism is also soooo good with ritualism I’m kinda mixed on the errata, but the pulse mechanics definitely add more mixed up turns. It’s probably the largest ratio of damage potential from a single level dip (40 MP -> 30 Damage to unlimited enemies at once)

The eratta is GREAT in my opinion because it gives "pure mage" characters something to do in combat when not casting spells. A major issue pure mages have is that all the arcane weapons are melee and two-handed, and a mage REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY dosen't want to be walking into melee to bonk things with their staff or tome, so like, mages when trying to conserve MP often have to think outside of the box and get REALLY creative with how to use their main action when not casting, often having to think up of ways to use the Hinder action that will logically work off Insight or Willpower to be remotely useful. Like I said, they REALLY don't want to run into melee to bonk things with their staff or tome since melee is a death sentence for a squishy pure mage who likely only has a d8 dex and d6 might, or a d8 might and d6 dex, and the Guard action does nothing to directly help the party win the combat unless you also use it to cover somebody else which as a pure mage you don't really have the HP to do regularly...so as a pure mage Guard is just just a selfish defensive boost that helps you survive, but dosen't help the party move towards victory, so just spamming guard every non-casting turn isn't the right play either. As a pure mage you either got to get creative with Hinder, or just eat the fact your gonna be useless on 90% of combat turns at low levels when your MP is to darn low to cast more than one spell per-fight. The pulse abilities however, fix this issue entirely, by giving the pure mage a viable, non-melee attack they can use every round that dosen't require a good dex or might, making the new arcanas a VERY good tool for pure mages at low level who want something to do in combat when not casting spells that isn't Hinder or Guard. The only other solution to this issue, outside an erratta arcana, is just to make a custom ranged weapon that works off Dex + Insight with the +2 accuracy bonus option for abilities. Sure, for you Dex + Insight is probably only gonna be d8 + d8 or d6 + d10 instead of the d8 + d10 your spellcasting checks will be, but the +2 accuracy boost from a custom weapon would bring a d8 + d8 or d6 + d10 check to basically being dead even to your d8 + d10 casting checks, if not better, so a custom weapon DOES patch the issue as well. Custom weapons are just EXPENSIVE and require GM buy in, so if you do go that road you'll have far less money to spend on other things you might need....which, admittedly, as a mage isn't that much of an issue since you can skimp on the armor side of things and be mostly fine, unlike a more martial character.....espcially if your custom weapon also has the defense boost ability. This is what my necromancer girl does. She has a custom ranged arcane weapon that works off Dex + Insight and has the elemental: dark, defense boost, and accuracy boost customization abilities. Lore wise, its a magial scythe that acts less as an actual scythe and more as a magic staff that magically shoots waves of dark energy attacks at her enemies when she makes slicing motions with it, with the defense boost lore-wise being from the fact its, you know, a polearm, that she can use to physically interfere with enemies who try to bonk her.

You said Arcanist if like a Summoner, right? Are the "summons" these buffs only? No creatures?

They are kinda like summons in the first 9 Final Fantasy games where they are show up, give a benefit and leave. Usually the buffs are so you keep em during turns (you can flavor how they buff you in battle) while the dismiss ability is the big attack/ability. Sadly, they are not mechanically like summons in other games where they are an NPC/controlled by the player. Still, one can flavor how they are used in encounters so they're not just numbers going on.
