Why would BTS walk away from a multi-billion dollar company they built where they invested so many years and have sizable shares and voting rights on the board to open their own label? they have capital and authority in their current label, something that most idols don't have. Not the same situation for every idol. Mind you it is still possible that the members might still set up a company after returning from the military. It doesn't make sense to judge their moves in their current situation just because of what other idols are doing at this specific time.

BTS has a lot of power due to the strong and loyal fanbase that includes and extends through the entertainment industry. In reality the shares in the company are minimal. They have a contract they are obligated to fulfill like all other idols but the benefits negotiated may be better due to their power and popularity. Company Staff manage idol careers as brand ambassador, musician, actor and entertainers and hire security to keep idols safe. This allows them the freedom to create and develop as artists.

BTS are in an ideal situation as the company needs them more than they need the company at this point. So they have all the advantages of a company behind them, but far more authority and autonomy than most employees. Running your own business is a 24/7 thing and it’s hard to be management and the “product” at the same time. Risking your own money (apart from initial seed capital) is a precarious business. If your business plan is really sound then people will invest. If they don’t then your business plan may not be long term viable or attractive enough.

Chapter 2 is going to be fun to see what they boys do, because the fact that when they signed this new contract they had to go to the board for approval, that to me says they are going to have some control over things concerning them as a group or as individual's within the group, Yoongi as well as the other members are very intelligent, but especially Yoongi so they know what they are doing and yes they may have to do somethings they don't like, but that's business. Look what just happened with Jennie and her vaping controversy, whomever it was, whether her or the company let that video or pics of her vaping out into the public, we all know how other fandoms or just anti's jump on anything negative they can get to ruin someone, BTS went thru it as we all know and there was one fandom who hates us the most and that was EXO now we battle hate from within the fandom, it's only gotten worse with solo career, yes it's probably only a minority that are toxic, but still the guys see all this, I know some may like one member more than others, but that does not mean you have the right to talk bad about the others members, if you don't like one or more keep it to yourself, without all 7 we would not have BTS

@@Kookietaetan Some control? They've always had that control creative freedom etc etc. However I think the having to have something go to the Board was to do with the money side. This was very informative. In my opinion, I feel like BTS already founded a label "Big Hit". As members of this organization they have responsibilites and as partial creators of the "inventory" they receive benefits and compensation. As adults, we are all aware that there is no situation financial or creative that is 100% perfect all the time. Also, as others have mentioned the boys re-signed to Big Hit, so currently they are satisfied and we support them in that. If the situation and their needs/wants change we will support them in whatever comes next.

@TheBioExplorer
@TheBioExplorer Месяц назад
Thank you. I've said it repeatedly... If you want to destroy BTS... then put them (Even just 1 of them like RM) in charge of BigHit or their own company. They are sometimes struggling with just recording, performing, and all the other things involved with being BTS. Even if we ignore the money side of things... the time and pressure of running their own label directly would be tremendous. COULD they do it? Sure! They are all smart and industrious. But WHY would they want to? RM chaffed under leadership redponsibilities as it was. He's smart enough to run a company... but it wouldn't make him happy in his poets soul. They are already in a better situation than most, if not all, artists in the world. They control what they want to control and what is important to them. Their artistry. With their new contracts, they have that. No other label would be that free for them artistically. However, they still have in place people who pump the brakes when needed. Such as those that talked Jin down with regard to how many he could reasonably meet and hug just 1 day after being discharged. He still could have been stubborn and insisted, but they came to a reasonable compromise. BTS has been in the business long enough to know that only having "yes men/women" is a recipe for disaster. They COULD also micromanage everything... but anyone who has ever been even a manager in a small company knows that isn't a successful strategy in the long term. Hybe & BigHit aren't perfect, especially being so young as companies go... but much of what they are criticized for has to do with decisions by the artists. They got hammered by fans for JHope not having a physical CD for JIB, but that was his choice at first. Fans yelled about RM only doing the Rolling Hall venue. Again... his choice because he dreamed of performing there. We want the best for them... but we need to trust that they are in the best position to know if what is best... is also what will make them happy.

I wonder how it will go for those idols... But that's not the case for BTS, since they all have master degrees and keep studying, they could have a label some day, but I think they feel just fine while being on bighit, they're given a lot of freedom when it comes to getting involved in music lyrics/production, their opinion as artists matter to the company, so they don't feel the need to leave and have their own label. They're given enough freedom, they voice their will to keep going as a group. That makes me think they'll keep working under bighit for a long time.

I once worked at a small shop. Work pilled up and a lot was never done. It was in the middle of the city but they never went out or had a day off. They felt foreign in their own hometown. They didn't raise their son themselves and the boss tried to make his little grandchildren work or an employee's toddler. (Bringing stuff mostly but they refused understandbly) They were this foreign to the world. I'm sad for who they were and that they were not able to enjoy life. They barely made end meet and in the end - at an age where others had long retired - the shop had to close: too much debt. It cured me from any idea to want to own my own business.

*There will be people who will not agree with me but I think that BTS today still don't have the idea of opening their own company yet because they are still young and I think their priorities are making music and going around the world to do concerts.Owning a company involves not only investors but hiring people to do the day-to-day things i.e. management, finances e so on and involves being present almost always for signatures and other things that require the approval of the "boss". With Bighit they have had enough freedom to do as they want and I don't think they are stupid enough to let themselves be handled like puppets, surely all of us are rooting for a company founded by all of them and perhaps we will see it but later when they intend to appear less on screens and dedicate themselves to business.*

I'm thinking if we look at a group like the Rolling Stones, we may see a possible future for BTS. The members of BTS have all stated that they want to make music for a long time, and that they want to be together for a long time. From personal experience, when you live and work with someone 14 hours a day, seven days a week, you either love them, or don't want to see them anymore. While the Stones have done solo projects (in fact their leader insisted on it), and spent time apart, they always come back together and I believe their biggest accomplishment, and legacy, is as a group. I won't predict, but I could very much imagine BTS following a similar path. Watching them together, it seems clear they have a very deep bond, and a very deep love of music. I could see them, much like the Rolling Stones, continuing to let experts run the business while they work at their true joy, music. Maybe with new technology things will change though! The future holds so much that we can't see yet! ❤

I think there is also the point where BTS criticize HYBE when they want to and support them when they want to. It shows that they and the company may not sometimes agree but they know to communicate instead of building resentment. It also shows BTS trusts HYBE not to stab them in the back. And BSH gifting all the members shares and keeping BH as the only private label under HYBE shows he and as an extension HYBE reciprocate the sentiment. BTS and HYBE have a very convenient symbiotic relationship that would be hard to cultivate again in case this goes south so I doubt either side wants to ruin it from a practical pov leaving aside any sentiments or loyalty they might feel for eo. It just makes sense for both parties to co-operate and co-exist. Since at this point, neither will go down under if they break the contract but both will suffer loss to an extent and they have been working together for more than a decade now its will be kind of hard to start anew if they break the contract.

Folks need to take off the blinders and look at the real world. It's Very competitive and cutthroat to run your own business. I also believe this is reason they put up Hybe to go toe to toe against not just established ent companies at the same time something that could gain power (and capitalization) and has it's own autonomy that will not easily fall. I mean imagine if they remained as BigHit Ent and some witch (rofl) runs away with their biggest investor. I will also say that the members are likely financing their sibling/parents business at least in part for the start: Jin (quiet certainly for his brother), Namjoon (likely for his sister), Jimin (for his parents, perhaps his brother), JK (for his brother)... and that is on stuff I'm aware of and there is so much I don't know.

There's also a huge difference running a small business, like a cafe, and the kind of global scale business that BTS's activities require. And even so, I doubt members are anything other than simply investors, or advisors at most, in their families' businesses. I'd hazard a guess that none of the people clamouring for bts to set up their own label have ever studied business or worked at anything but the lowest levels of a large organisation, nor set up their own business with employees.

Saludos.🇲🇽

This is how I know Blackpink Rose is the smartest in the group. I wish the other girls well but family run kpop companies like Jennie with her mother and Rose with her brother can be disastrous. Also the money is in producing and Blackpink members don’t produce music. I know BTS members will likely never leave Bang Sihyuk

So not sure who orchestrated this….if it was Bang PD or the BTS members…..but they all have college degrees in business ….with many still working towards or achieving masters degrees in marketing (I THINK JK did get his bachelors degree but not sure). THEN……isn’t it funny how they designed and developed their own merch to sell during the pandemic😳. They are all actively involved in the production side of their solo careers……so it appears that they have been gathering knowledge and education to eventually….if they choose….manage their own careers. For now…..as they are all building their solo careers they are clearly in charge of most of the direction with the support of Big Hit/HYBE……the company they built so why would they leave at this point. The future…….thats a different story. They are very very smart young men.

I would love to know more about how the IDOL industry works from an artist perspective, as opposed to the western music industry. In the West each artist has their own manager, agent, lawyer. Is that comparable to the IDOL industry? When organizing Suga's tour who paying for venue fees, sponsorships, rentals, etc. Is Suga doing all that or is Big Hit doing it and Suga negotiates a cut? Also I heard idols have to pay back training fees, is that accurate? I don't believe there is a western equivalent to that and I'm curious? Finally, who owns BTS's masters? Do they own their music or does Big Hit? And who owns the name BTS, can Big Hit (after the boys retire) have a new generation of BTS with different members or does the name need to change? Thanks.

The tour was organized by BH/HYBE. They offered him stadiums and he declined. I think that was in a recent Asian Entertainment and Culture vid. Since Idols are trained by the label - which includes housing and food - the label has a right to ask that back. Think of it as going to a school or university or ballett school. They still live at these dorms after debut at least till they are off-age/a few years in. It's also usually rather practical since the members almost always do stuff together in the beginning. Big Hit never asked the training cost back which is why e.g. NewJeans earned money from debut on. (I think to debut a group under HYBE it takes a few million USD. One of the Big3 labels said they need ca. 1 million USD to debut a 5 member group and that was a few years ago.) I'm told that neither do the Big3 but I'm not 100% sure. The members do get money for their song credits (the KOMCA tracks that) but i think technically everything else is owned by the label. Which does not mean that the members could not ask for the name and stuff GOT7 simply asked their old boss for their groupname. Using their BTS songs likely comes with a fee that needs negotiation if they leave. But it would likely be the decision of BH/HYBE. They have the copyright. If you think that anyone would let BTS get new members/or exchange them you are certainly crazy. These are not the background singers of Tina Turner when she was still working for her first (abusive) husband. It's also not NTC who technically had a graduation system that I don't think will happen. HYBE has business briefing on their channel. "The Rise of Bangtan"-series has also a lot of context. bby gang mag also made a few interesting video essays. So has boracity magazine (she is a little agressive but mostly right). Most other stuff was bits and pieces that I saw in different locations/vids but in some part can't quiet recall or are to toxic to interact with - especially for someone new.

There are Kpop Industry 'Norms' however BigHit kind of threw them out of the window. So When Bang PD gave that interview about the fact BTS have planned an album to celebrate one of their older albums he said with or without us they will still do it. This showed BTS own their name not BigHit also suggests not only do they get their royalitys via the fact they all have songs logged with the South Korean Copyright association be it lyric's, melodies and as Producers. It means they own a vast amount of their work. Many Kpop groups do not even own their own groups name so can't use it if they leave their company.

@@eileencritchley4630 Thank you Eileen for the info. I do remember that interview where Bang PD spoke about HYYH. At the time that statement gave me a lot of comfort, that even if things changed label-wise the boys were still planning as OT7.

What I'm questioning in terms of copyright is why did Taylor Swift have to buy back her Masters? I don't want the boys to ever be in that position. Perhaps since they all have songs logged with the South Korean Copyright association this happens by default in S. Korea. I just don't know enough about the different systems. I'm enjoying the discussion everyone. 😀

I do not understand why JK wearing his brother's shirt was an issue.
@ruthfischer7615
@ruthfischer7615 Месяц назад
Because it was considered hidden advertising. He may have admitted it was his brothers/knows that Army will find out and buy it. It was an anti and the investigation came back fast that it was a none issue. JK simply wore it. Idols have spoken about clothes (and how good they are) - getting a fee for it - without disclosing they were advertising - which is illegal.

Honestly I've said many times before how I wish bts would leave that hellhole, but I knew well that it's NOT easy to establish a well-functioning company. They would've sacrifice some things when they choose to. So in the end I also wish they would NOT have to leave. As in I hope that Hybe will continue to treat them well in the future - even after they lost their spotlight. But can a money-grubbing company be that generous? Who knows. There are many bad-end examples of celebrities that set up their own companies. So I hope bts won't reach the stage where they need to leave and create their own. I dont trust BangPD or anyone. Bc they are all here purely for money. I doubt he truly cares for bts "like a son" 😂 that's the funniest crap. He cares cuz they are his cash cow. I hope bts also know this and treat every step carefully, especially about contracts. Btw thank you as usual for your insightful and logical video! 💜 Armys that wish they leave (like me lol) should watch this video.

wow.. You have no idea what you are talking about and are one of the reasons why this video essay needed to be made. It's not SM and not a hellhole at all. The industry itself can be toxic. But HYBE/BH is pretty transparent. Bang gave up his position as CEO to make music again which he did: for TXT Enhypen, Le Sserafim & Illit at least at first glance. It's fine to be sceptic but there is no proof that there is anything fundamentally wrong there.
