Cats absolutely domesticated us, rather than the other way around, and I’m 100% serious. They basically give up nothing for the arrangement. They come and go as they please, give affection only when they want, and in return receive food, shelter, affection (when they want it) and a place where rodents congregate (human dwellings). Have you ever seen an African wildcat (the wild predecessor of domestic cats)? Literally just a cat. They haven’t changed at all.
@@TPRM1African wildcats aren't the only wild cats. There's plenty of small wildcats that are not of the domestic variety as well! Some of them look like adorable little buff balls! (That will absolutely go for your face and maul it in minutes if you get too close, unlike the domestic cat where cat scratches and bites can usually be treated at home.
@bethanydavis9023 No, but I believe it was the African wildcat that was domesticated (or rather, that domesticated humans) and is the precursor to modern domestic cats. I may be wrong, but that is my understanding.
@@TPRM1 look up wildcats who purr then. Most African wildcats can't. And cats domestic have been around humans a long time. Even though we didn't domesticate them they still diverged from their wildcat ancestors for a while now.
Cats are really something else. They donate their fur to our clothing to keep us warm, they run around aimlessly at 3:00 in the morning to show off their hunting skills, using said hunting skills to bring you dead animals because you are bad at hunting, making sure they watch your back while you poop, and now watching you sleep. Real MVP
My mom wakes up earlier than me and feeds the cat, who then comes to my bed to snuggle. When I finally wake up too, she's especially affectionate even though I'm not going to feed her. It is such a perfect way to start your day especially if you don't need to go anywhere.
Well a person gave away a cat his name was Sushi But when i was having fun with my friends in school My parents caught our husky gucci Upstairs and Killed Sushi🥺😭😢
@@kevinl3875 Yeah! People who think that your cat only cares about you feeding them and doesn't enjoy you or your company either never had a cat or they are terrible owners, lol!
@@kevinl3875natural explanation. How do you feel when you wake up hungry? Most likely grumpy or in a bad mood until you grt food. We release happiness hormones when we feel well fed. So for the cat biologically its the same. Cat get food? Okay happy time. Its really that simple c:
@godnyx117 I was joking lol. I'll leave you with this, though. If you die and your pet has no way of escaping or eating, dogs will wait about a week before resorting to your corpse. Cats though? You get 24 hours on average, maybe even 48 if Mr. Whiskers loved you lots. (I'm totally stirring the pot, so if you can't see that and get mad it's your fault)
My cats ever so sweetly checks on me a few times a night by starting zoomie sessions and proceed to land on me 2-3x each night to make sure I’m still breathing by knocking the wind out of me… I feel so loved and cared for… 😻
I had a wonderful cat which decided suddenly to sleep at the foot of my bed when I became seriously sick. He helped me through my illness, He would gently walk up my chest in the morning and start purring in my face and alternate patting my eyelids very gently. As if he was knocking on my eyes, because they were closed. He was saying hey, open up. When I did, the look of mischief in his eyes was a delight. I still owe him so much. But it was so long ago now. All I can do is remember him with praise.
Cats also have healing purrs!! Their purrs happen at a frequency that’s known to heal, so in a way, they were also trying to help you with that!! Cats are great :)
I can't 100 percent agree to this...everytime they check on me, they thunder over to their dish... if I feed them early, they never check on me again until they want food again ! I AM A FREAKIN' VENDING MACHINE WITH CLOTHES.
They are looking at 1. empty food bowl 2. You still alive with an edible face. Check out all the crime scene cleaner videos. Cat eats your face on day 1 of your untimely death
@@tavihawrey1078 I feel fairly confident cats actually do identify humans as "different" than cats. Because my cat hisses at literally every cat she sees, but never hisses at dogs or humans. Instead she immediately runs from dogs and follows me over to the humans to investigate them
My cat checks on me by doing random sneak attacks throughout the night. Nothing makes you feel more like Spider-Man than being dead asleep and snatching a lunging cat out of midair.
@@alexia52118 It feels so bad when you aren't expecting them and you smack them down from jumping up; because that's just the natural instinct when something comes at you from the void.
@@falconeshield its false info, almost every animal has that ability, inclusing cats. Also, it seems you have less brain then a cat because cats are someone the most intellegent creatures. They are able to maintain good hygiene, have good senses, and are able to understand human emotions better then dogs
It's actually quite simple. They have a colony concept, and since (most of them) spend almost their whole life with you, they consider being part of YOUR colony. So yes, they will most likely treat you how they'd treat any other cat.
Coffee doesnt help you you just think it does because youre addicted and feel withdrawals in the morning thats why youre in a shitty mood until you drink your coffee. Drinking coffee is so normalized its crazy basically 50% of the world are drug addicts and they dont even realize it.
Do you feed as SOON as you wake up? This may be why. If you adjust feeding time to be a bit After you get up and say, have your coffee, then the cat will adjust to that habit. They will get used to you making your smelly drink, then know hey its grub time. My cats know exactly when its feed time, they all congregate in the kitchen area around the same times every day. If im not in there doing the duty, then one or more of them come and make sure I know im forgetting something.
It's what Google says yes but I dint agree with it there's just no way ...cats behave way different with humans than with other cats ..so even if it might be true ill always believe that My cat knows me as it's owner...or rather him as my owner😂
This is adorable. Plus, cats also try to protect you if they know your sick. I had the flu a few days ago and my cat just refused to leave me alone after my mom and brother left the house. She followed me everywhere and was constantly staring at me and making sure I was safe. She only toned down the worry after there were trustworthy people present again. I fucking love cats so much.
I used to live in a basement apt. The bedroom window was right where people would pass on the sidewalk, or come down the stairs to the foyer for my and other's apts. She glare out the window and growl when we were in bed together during the day... Then when I'd come home from work she'd meow at me and walk to the bedroom, looking over her shoulder at me, as if asking, "So, you wanna?..."
I had 3 cats, one of them loved me, one cared about me, and one "accepted" me, but only me. So the third one was okay if i pet it, but otherwise was on her own most time. When i had a pretty hard depression back then, all of them, especially the third cat would not leave me, meow at me and crawl all over me, just to make me happy. They really know your feelings and care about them, even if not everyone of them shows it all the time. Cats are best. I loved them so much, i spent my last cents on cat food, even if i had no human food 😆
@@zerosixteen9433 you are so sweet and I am so happy that they are with you! (Also, I forget to get myself food from the shop and realize at home that all I got is for my cat xd)
I had to take of my family's cat once alone, but fell badly ill to the point I was puking almost all day. I couldn't even feed her for nearly 12 hours, maybe even more, but she sat next to me the whole time and didn't really bother me. She seemed to understand I was sick. It's funny too cuz she was a very fat cat that routinely complained about food, but not that day.
Fun fact. If a cat catches a mouse or bird and howls at you til you acknowledge them they actually aren't just wanting praise/attention it's actually them thinking they are bringing you food.
One time I had left my window open and left the room to play video games and my cat brought me 5 dead mice and a headless rabbit all arranged in a neat line behind where I was sitting. I didn’t even hear her because I was wearing a headset. It was quite a surprise when I noticed lol.
Yes, mine is also very polite about the "sleeping time". He patiently waits me to get up. Only time tha he has waken me up during the night is in an emegency...read: when he has gotten soaking wet from the rain outside and needs emergency drying with a kitchen towel LOL 🤣🤣🤣 He was soaking wet to the skin so I felt he had a point. (And he did not get flue afterwards which saved me from vet bills etc.)
I know this is negative, but I must say it because it’s a fact. Cats will devour your corpse if god forbid you pass away and they don’t have any food to eat. I suppose part of me will live on?
I roll over throughout the night, so my cat isn’t worried either. Lol Course, she’s not very good at being a cat so she also sleeps throughout the night, typically right next to me.
My mom actually complains all the time that she hates how my cat is curled up purring around her head in the morning 😂 I find it hilarious but I should tell her that Kiki is just happy that she's awake
Same... I have to wiggle and get the cat off me. Even then he start sleeping whatever position he fell off me. I go feed the other cats makes his especial food( he has megaesophagus) and return to find him still sleeping.
I doubt either of them has any capacity to think about whether or not we're different from them. They don't even have much of a concept of what they are. Both dogs and cats seem to regard us as they would regard a member of their own species though. Difference is that dogs instinctively understand the concept of social hierarchy. They (usually) see you as someone they need to impress, and worry about making you upset. Cats don't understand hierarchies like that though. They're down to be friends, but no one cat is in charge of any other cat so they see you as "just another cat" who has no more right or ownership over their environment than they do. So when a dog regards you as if you were another dog, that means it understands that it's living in your home and it (tries) to behave accordingly. When a cat regards you as if you were another cat, it simply means it accepts that you both happen to live in the same space. They might love you, but to a cat that's no reason to prioritize your wants or needs over their own.
@@zeph0shade That's not really true, cats have social hierarchies. I have 5 and they have a hierarchy, usually based on who is the best fighter, this is regularly reassessed through play fighting.
Mine too! And she'll wrap her tail around my neck as tight as she can. I'll either choke if I turn away or I'm forced to face the chocolate starfish! 🤢 Then she has the nerve to demand breakfast! That's OK, my golden retriever got her back the other day. She was spazzing out and went into foot attack mode. My dog sat on her until she chilled out! Pets are a constant source of fun, frustration and bemusement! 🤣
I can confirm that cats really do care, when I was little I got really hurt and I had to get stitches. My cat realized this and wouldn't leave my side, even when I was asleep.
My older sister's cat, Lulu, was there for me the day after I lost my first cat, Graystripe. Lulu was a slightly timid cat and it took her time to warm up to me or, to just know that I was okay and that I wasn't going to hurt her. I had been staying with my sister sometimes for a month so she got to know me. For awhile I could only go to her and pet her in the morning in the kitchen. The day after I lost Graystripe, Lulu followed me into my bedroom after our morning hello and stayed with me all day. She became my buddy from that day on. So yeah, I too, can confirm that cats really do care. Lulu's company was just what I needed after going through my loss. The best nurse that ever had and never needed to pay.
Yes... i think they know when we feel either physical or emotional pain... I realized that whenever I cry, both my cats will lay around me... they won't leave until I stop crying. They're like therapy cats 😂🥰
Nah, my cat just wants food. He leads me to his dish every morning. And if I don't follow him right away he runs back up to get me until I do follow him.
Yup same here lol. Although we used to get woken up by our older cat licking our arms or face, or nuzzling us. Sometimes our younger cat does this.. But she is so much smarter... She'll paw at you now if you don't wake up or... She will climb up and attack my tissue box. 🤣😩
Some of them check for your breath by putting their paw under your nose to feel the breath and accidentally boop your nose sometimes. Others just stare at you until they see you breathe or move. And some just chose to rest on your chest where they can feel your breath and heartbeat.

One of my cats checks to see if im awake by jumping on my bed, meowing at me and then standing on my chest and purring in my face, even settles down on my chest sometimes haha... i love the little guy lol
Bro, half the time I wake up with my cats paws on my throat, I dunno if that's affection or he's waiting for the right time to make sure I don't wake up.
Mine used to get me up at 6am every morning, except weekends, and make me go to be at 9:30pm every day, except for weekends. Literally a fluffy alarm clock.
Shouldn’t sleep all day. Also if your cat gets sick they’ll be lethargic which means no, wakey wakey. Also to make them eat so they don’t die of their body eating off it’s fat, get a sirenge or how ever you spell that, and wet food for cats take the the gravy in the sirenge spelling is still a mystery and squirt it down their throat.
I'm pretty sure that it's based off of survival instinct. The body sometimes mistakes sleep as you dying so it sends a jolt through your body to keep you from knowing off since that would result in death
@Claudia Ngwena so I looked it up and I was close you're body somtimes mistakes it for falling not dying. It's called a hypnic jerk. I don't know if that's what he has but I've definitely had it and it's normal.
There’s absolutely no need to check I’m alive by singing the song of their ancestors in the middle of the night, loudly, while running up and down the stairs.
I watch my cat stare at the baby to see if she's breathing, sniff the middle child to confirm she's sleeping, and cuddles with the oldest. Anything happens and he's at my door. Love my cat
You struck gold my friend, my little kitten is the sweetest living being in the world, I can’t comprehend. I wish there was a way we can communicate with pets 😅 Would be funny to hear a good morning when you wake up😂
My cat continuously meows at me while I get ready for work because he doesn't want me to leave without saying bye first. As soon as I say "Alright..." He knows that he's gonna get a ton of love before I walk out the door.
I often wonder if they are scolding me too. I think she is just checking if I’m a zombie or not, because if I am, I won’t be able to feed her so she would need a new human
One day when I was a kid, I was going through a vertigo type of migraine, I was screaming and was in alot of pain. My cat made sure to come to my room and started hissing at my own parents. I always loved my cat, may you rest in peace KifKif
As my cat has an automatic feeder that runs an our before my wake up time, I usually get purred awake about 30 minutes before my alarm... That ended any kind of doubt on my part that Maggie just wants cuddles without any ulterior motive
Yep, my cat is not needing the food, he is just getting a little bored and wants me to be up with him (and do cat-like-things like watching out of the window with him etc.) I am his best friend.

@@Spritzkrieg If you think that was an insult, you're mistaken. I have years of experience with cats, dogs and other animals and I understand that animals are different by species. Of all dogs I ever met, there were few that I would describe as emotionally even slightly detached from their owners. They live with and for their owners. However with cats, most of them have a very detached nature and they only accept you if you're a friend to them as they are to you. It's a personal choice what kind of behavior you like more.

same with mine 🥹 after shes done eating in the morning she comes to my bed, sniffs tf out of my face, then either gets on my chest or snuggles up next to me and falls asleep
I have Narcolepsy so sometimes my brain “falls asleep” and I totally zone out (kinda like micro sleep (that happens too) but longer and my eyes are closed). It usually happens right when I sit down to eat, when I’m searching through pantries or when I’m getting dressed. What I’ve found interesting is that my older and less “social” cat (she likes a few pets and scratches from her human but it must happen completely on her terms) usually is the one who wakes me up from those episodes. Once by stretching up along the cabinet next to me to paw at my hand, which she would never ever usually do. And she jumps up on the table and meows in my face almost nose to nose if I pass out there. As soon as I wake up and see what’s she’s doing I get so happy and praise her and thank her, and she looks pleased with herself. So now I know she absolutely does that on purpose, and why! ❤
My cat is named Sprigly. Named him that, because one day while bringing in the groceries, he just popped up like a lil sprig of grass. Didn't even see him follow me into the house until I turned around and saw this adorable lil kitten standing there, with a lil blue toy mouse in his mouth! Put up posters, and waited. It was quarantine, and all shelters were closed. After two weeks, with no response, we finally decided we'd have to find an open vet, and get him his shots, and let him stay with us, in the house he chose to just barge into! Best choice ever! He's rowdy and kinda cray cray...rambunctious and playful all day. But when bed time comes, and we call him m say "let's go to bed" he comes running and beats us to the bed every time. Hu snuggles us good night and then curls up in his spot...he wakes about 3 or so and does his security check and zoomies around the house. Then returns to his spot ... When we start to stir, he immediately walks up our bodies onto our chests, and nuzzles our faces with his...if we don't get up he will just sit on our chests and repeat the nuzzles every 5 mins or so...like a lil alarm clock that' keeps setting to snooze! It's my favorite thing about mornings! As soon as I'm outta bed he rushed into the kitchen to jump on his trash can perch, lol, to watch me make the coffee...where he stays until it's done so he can follow us out to the sofa And curl up on one of our laps, where he wriggles around and purrs..his coffee break! When we get back home, he's usually napping on one of his shelves, but as soon as we close the door, hu jumps down and rushes to the trash can lid n jumps up to say hi! You're back . He wants a head scratch. He's not really to vocal most of the time, but he's loving! But if your not opening his can of tuna by 7:30 he gets vocal and dances about to get you to follow him into the kitchen...to the pantry..to let you know hus dinner is late!?? He was a surprise, and he has turned into our baby, and we love him so! We have no doubt he loves his dinner, but also that he loves us! Mr. Sprigly...were so glad he popped up at our house, glad he chose us, and happy to have him walk across our chests each morning and feel his fuzzy face! He is a joy, and be is a pain in the butt, but he is ours, and we wouldn't have it any other way,!

Your cat doesn’t think you are a cat though. That is just some dumb crap this video says. In reality cats know the difference between a human and another cat. And they also don’t wake you up to make sure you are alive either.
@@mynameisjeff9660 While animals know that humans are different, some - like cats - still treat humans the same way they would treat others of their own species.
@@wareforcoin5780 As it's impossible to look inside the head of a cat, I guess it's inconclusive. Since I also know the behavior of wild cats, I say it's likely that they think of humans similarly as of other cats. Cats bring humans prey because they think that we can't survive without food or being able to hunt on our own. Which would be a pointless behavior if they thought of us as a different species with different eating/hunting behaviors. They also tend to greet us similarly to other cats, which is pretty uncommon for dogs for example. And especially feral and wild cats will also try to defend their own food from humans in a similar fashion like they would do with other cats. They will snarl despite knowing that the human in front of them just gave them the food. Could it be that cats check on you during nighttime because you act different than a healthy cat? From all I know and experienced, I think it's plausible.
yepp ours do the same thing. Sounds like a little train coming purring and sniffing to the ear. and then starts biscuit making sitting on top of the back or side of me. Cant be mad even if its 04:30 in the morning

If I’m sick and quarantining myself in my room, (family clearly looking after my cat outside the room), my cat will come up to my door and meow in the most concerned way until he physically sees me with his eyes. He will do this both morning and night 🥹❤️ Cats’ affection is so underrated, tbh
Cats also aren’t a huge fan of change, so if he usually has access to your room and suddenly doesn’t, it could be less he’s concerned about you and more he thinks he did something wrong and is seeing if/why you’re mad at him.
My cat won't leave me alone when I'm sick. She has to be in the room with me and cuddles up to my chest and armpits. She'll even follow me to the bathroom lol.
I like how my cat knows exactly, when I finally go to sleep, and no matter what he's doing, he immideatly jumps on bed and waiting for me to lie down, so he can settle somewhere in my legs. And then in the morning he also knows when I fully wake up, and comes to cuddle a bit befor I stand up. What's even more interesting, is that I dont have a fixed strickt schedule, since Im studing at home with online courses, but he still knows when its time to sleep and wake up.
