I am German and have lived here for 60 years. I hardly know anyone who is "crazy" about asparagus. Some like to eat it when it is season in may and june so as they eat gingerbread before christmas or mushrooms in autumn. Others reject it completely. In addition, it has become very expensive these days.
You have to consider how this looks to a foreigner in Germany. In May, if you go out to eat, "SPARGEL" will be written in huge letters on a chalkboard and the main dish, a steak or cutlet is literally secondary. On top of that, you have it at all the open air markets and the chalkboards there too about Beelitzer (or Marchfelder, for my Austrian friends) Spargel. Not too mention all of the special kitchen utensils sold just for asparagus. That's why, again, to a foreigner, it seems crazy.
Uhm actually - define crazy...when there is asparagus season in Germany it is omnipresent everywhere. It is on the menu of almost every restaurant - I have even seen pasta and pizza with asparagus etc.. Over all is true - Germany is a little bit obsessed with white asparagus and some might call this crazy.
I like those longer videos much better than those short ones. What a hard work! I would not be able to do it. Well done, Brad! On the other hand, I do not like asparagus. But indeed, it seems to be a big hype every year here in Germany. Strange....
I had green asparagus in the garden. i love to eat raw asparagus in salads. Green asparagus can also be fried well and only lightly fried then eaten with a delicious sauce. I also love white asparagus cooked then served with vinaigrette and baguette. asparagus always works ^^
I expected a real answer where you actually ask people why. For me, white asparagus is just a seasonal vegetable but I still have a hard time understanding the hype and prefer many other vegetables over it.
👩🏼🏫👉🏼 "The odour after eating asparagus is due to the breakdown of sulphur-containing compounds into volatile compounds such as methanethiol, which gives off a distinct odour in the urine." 😉
Seeing how much pain he was in for that little amount of time and the amount of work he is supposed to do, seems really brutal to the workers. They allow chairs at the grocery stores but how do the workers here avoid back problems?
@@MigGa-yu5xv We dont have food shortages in germany and as said before, its a luxury product. We dont eat that like a Burger from McDonalds. Its something for special occasions.
@@dweuromaxx You are right. I apologize. Here is my new comment... Going forward, please be more respectful of other people's property and businesses. It is not a joke. Laughing, or whining, while you continue to butcher the harvest is simply immature and rude to the hosting farm/business and the people that work there. Be better than that.
