Polar bears are spotted often in Churchill, Canada, but this year, government officials say they saw more than twice as many bears in town compared to 2022. Geoff York with Polar Bears International says a lack of sea ice due to climate change is the problem. NBC News’ Anne Thompson takes us there for a closer look at the situation.

It's a sad result of sea ice melting. These poor bears are short of food. 😢 I'm glad the locals know what to do. ❤

Polar bear numbers have been increasing for decades -- if they’re starving it’s because they’re overpopulated.

20 years ago NBC said polar bears would be extinct by now so I'm amazed you're even doing this story

Are you dense? They are struggling to survive. That is the message here. Are you quibbling about a decade or two?
@DeeSmith001
@DeeSmith001 7 месяцев назад
@@mandyharewood886Mandy, are you from here in Canada? I'm guessing not. If you didn't know, the bears aren't hunted anymore and the population is rising because of that fact and because the seal and walrus population is also rising. That's what polar bears eat in the winter. As for fasting? The bears can go for long periods without eating, but if a caribou wanders in front of one in the summer, guess what's for dinner? This entire report is hogwash and pushing a narrative that is false for an equally false agenda.

Because the polar bears are starving, that's why they're in a tiny Canadian town. Hoping to get some food before they die of starvation.

it's fun for us to live our life and just watch them, but a polar bear without ice means weeks and weeks of starvation. this is what we brought to animals on earth. good job every body

@@jordyb57 not necessarily true. In some locations they are increasing, decreasing, or remaining constant. But the fact is as their territory continues to diminish, their numbers will diminish as well.

Save it by listening to complete bs like this report? Churchill always has bears, even in the dead of winter and the population is growing here in Canada. The reason it's growing is because there's all kinds of caribou and seals to eat and because there's no hunting pressure anymore.

If you have never lived or had to coexist with these animals you really shouid educate yourself. It’s not like going outside and feeding a bird. If they feed them they will come closer to humans and the homes there which can be dangerous for both humans and the bears if they become too familiar then we all know what happens they end up Losing their lives.

The reason there are more polar bear sightings is that there are more polar bears. The polar bear population has grown in recent years, contrary to popular belief. This video is a lie.
