If mothers not eating peanuts can lead to peanut allergies, maybe the reason pregnant women crave random food is so that their child is exposed to a wide range of proteins at that stage of development.

They have actually successfully treated peanut allergies by introducing tiny amounts into the person's diet until they are able to eat it normally. And, these people had no adverse reactions with this method. There are a number of studies proving that the 'airborne peanut dust allergy' is extremely rare. The patients in these studies had psychological reactions because their parents had drilled this bs into them. So that if they smelled peanuts or saw them they would hyperventilate, turn red and sometimes develop rashes. But those same kids had NO reaction when exposed to even more peanuts when they were not aware of it. So, yeah, some of it is in your head. And if you want to fix it, there is a fix. Instead of spending all that effort to make someone else not eat nuts, take your butt to a real doctor that can help you get rid of the allergy.

My BFF was eating peanut butter crackers at lunch and she knew I was allergic so when the other girl next to me was eating it too my BFF bent over me and told her so I smelled it and had a reaction, a kid next to me in class also was eating it and I told him, he just stared at me and pushed it in my face then started laughing, again I turned red in front of everyone. When you say "I can die bc I'm allergic" they stick it in your face and laugh and then you react for real, kids are such goddamn idiots

I'm not allergic or anything, but for the sake of those who are, factories need to stop producing chocolate on the same conveyor belts as anything with nuts in them. Pretty much every chocolate rapper I have that doesn't cover chocolate with nuts in it says "If you're allergic to any kind of nut, don't eat this delicious snack, because we're too lazy to make it on a separate production line in the factory. But don't worry, we didn't intend this delicious snack to have nuts in it..."

Yay, then all of these delicious snacks can cost 6 times as much. OOooh, I know, no more nuts for public consumption. Then we can see what kind of pressure this puts on every other item in our food line, demand prices everything is suspect. You must be some kind of genius.
@JWQweqOPDH
@JWQweqOPDH 9 лет назад
As the other guy said, what the rapper says does not mean to tell you that it was made on the same production line, it's a requirement whenever the food was made within the same facility as foods containing allergens.
@PyroOfZen
@PyroOfZen 9 лет назад
JWQweqOPDH I eat plenty of chocolate that literally say that they were made on the same production line as nut-filled products on the wrapper. Of course, it's more common to see a simple: "May contain traces of nuts."
@TheRednaxela12
@TheRednaxela12 9 лет назад
It says it may contain nuts so if one chocolate bar happens to have a bit of nut on it for some reason the company can say that they warned you and you can't sue them

Its a'll genetics and medicine. In the past, people who had fatal allergies died, but because of advances in medicine we can now prevent the deaths. this means that the people with the allergies go on to have children with the allergies and so on.

However my reaction only started 4 hours after consumption. My reaction was also kind of mild. Only had swollen eyes, nose, heartburn and problem breathing because of throat that started to close off. So we rushed to the GP down the road and he have me a high dose antihistamine pill. If my kid had a severe allergy I definitely wouldn't send them to school until they were old enough to be responsible for what they eat. Schools are TERRIBLE about keeping food out of the hands of kids with allergies. This is probably why there are so many peanut bans...because allergic kids would end up with peanuts if they didn't ban them.
@HeavyMaster99
@HeavyMaster99 9 лет назад
Danica, just give him home made food, that's all you have to do, not cut his/her education..
@DanicaDeCosto

I already homeschool anyway but when I send my kids places without me I pack their food. Anyway...kids often go to daycare when they are too young for school. I worked in a daycare and they don't check ingredients. They gave a kid who was allergic to eggs pancakes with egg in them and she broke out into big red blotches. Her mom had to be called and she had to be picked up because teachers are incompetent when it comes to allergies.
@HeavyMaster99
@HeavyMaster99 9 лет назад
***** Yeah, but.. I think that your child deserves a ''normal'' life, besides the meals, a lot of homeschooled people become lonely, drepressed and antisocial, tho not all.. I think you'll have to talk with your husband, but I'm not going to get in your personal space, that or let him (the kid) choose maybe he wants to go to schools one day, don't force him to be homeschool if he doesn't want to.. Yeah, I know.. most people are careless these days..
@DanicaDeCosto
@DanicaDeCosto 9 лет назад
You know...you probably just don't know anything about homeschooling. There are homeschool co-ops where the homeschoolers get together to make friends. He also goes to a place every day for three hours to make friends and have a social life. He has autism and public school just isn't the right place for him. If you homeschool and keep your kid away from everyone then obviously that is a bad thing...but today there are lot of options and homeschoolers are often better socialized than public school kids.

When I worked at Cold Stone, we weren't allowed to use the same utensils that we used in peanut butter or peanut butter flavored ice cream on the stone or to mix other ice cream with out washing it first or scraping up the ice cream off the stone. I know we did some things to keep nuts separated from the rest of the food, but it's kind of like eat at your own risk. The Cold Stone I worked at was attached to a Tim Hortons and we used to work both sides, and we had to keep our peanut donuts and maple danishes on the bottom shelf of the donut display so it wouldn't be near the majority of other baked goods, but they're all baked in the same pan, they're glazed with the same glaze... Just be careful.

Maybe the rise in allergies is due to the rise of the hyper clean home. Because houses have be so clean, kids have not really been exposed to any dirt or harmless bugs so the immune system is inexperienced and out of practice. As a result, the immune system response is to go full nuclear and overreacts. Just a theory
@MegaSupernova888
@MegaSupernova888 9 лет назад
That's actually a supported hypothesis. The main claim is that a lack of introduction to parasites causes them, because our defense mechanisms against parasites do the same things that the 'defense' for allergens does, like opening blood vessels (hives & severe blood pressure drop), and constricting the airways to prepare to throw up the parasite if it can't be eradicated any other way (nausea, cramps, throwing up, trouble breathing). Except because our bodies can't properly fight the "parasite," the cycle continues until the lack of air or drop in blood pressure kills the person.
@synapse131
@synapse131 9 лет назад
MegaSupernova888 I can't remember exactly what the condition was but one researcher found that the presence of a parasitic worm produced a substance that blocked the condition (if I remember correctly, it was some type of blood condition but I might be wrong.)

I read some research that said the peanut allergy is associated with children not getting exposed to enough germs when they’re young. The parents I know with allergy prone kids are also the parents who don’t let their toddlers play outside in the dirt, they wash their hands constantly and generally live an (over)protected life. These kids don’t get to handle bugs, pet dogs, eat food off the floor occasionally, climb trees, or other germ filled normal childhood activities. I believe that this kind of parenting is why we’ve seen an increase in peanut allergies. I know a lot of people won’t like this answer but there it is. Babies need germs for their immune system to develop. I also think moms don’t breastfeed long enough. Most of the kids I’ve seen who’ve breastfed for 2 years or more, do not have this allergy. More research is going into the relationship between breastfeeding and lack of allergies. Breastfeeding isn’t just a food. It’s a custom immunity mix that’s been filtered and specially made for the baby. The baby’s saliva sends information via the nipple to the moms body and the mom’s mammary glands make the ideal mix for the baby’s needs. Because of this relationship, the pump isn’t good enough. Neither is buying breast milk. The bare minimum for breastfeeding is 6 months but after more research is done I believe they will find that it should go on much longer.

There is a growing number of "undereducated, iPhone carrying, Starbucks sipping, Ugs waring, reality show watching, not checking your blind spot, minivan driving, stay at home moms" who freak out over minuscule defects in their children. Timmy's eyes swol shut because of his peanut allergy, so now my kids can't bring PB&J to lunch. I'm allergic to pears and have crazy seasonal allergies, but I still eat pears and work outside. Pears are delicious and spring sucks. Like the kids from the old days, you just deal with it and press on.

of course the number of people allergic to peanuts has risen ... the question to ask is if the ratio of people allergic to population is increasing
@ShadowDrakken
@ShadowDrakken 9 лет назад
The ratio is, it's because of the lack of early exposure, as they said in the video. Peanuts used to be a major staple in the US, they've become much less so in recent years, and the worry of allergic reactions makes new mothers even more timid to give their young ones any, which escalates the issue.

How isn't the human microbiome and the deviation of it over the years mentioned in this video? I thought it was a well-known fact that over-sanitation, antibiotics and the more and more common C-section* contributed to our immune system not getting the right circumstances to learn how to differentiate between pathogens and, for example, allergens, hence allergies becoming more common. (* as well as lack of breast feeding as suggested before me apparently, it is important to get lactobacillus bacteria into your system after [and during the birth from the canal] for normal immune development)

Now I live with two dogs, eat whatever I want and I haven't gotten a proper allergic reaction in probably ten years if you ignore the ones with cheap earrings (I know I shouldn't, but I can't help myself) truth is I still use the line "I'm sorry, I'm allergic to that" to get out of poorly cooked meals (hey, there are tests that say it's true!)

I didn't do anything to deserve my severe allergy and there is nothing I can do about it to make someone else in the lunchroom's life easier but all that these people complaining have to do is substitute their peanut butter for almond butter (an example) or maybe eat something else. If you insist that a child should eat alone because of his or her allergies, you do not know how emotionally damaging and selfish that is because you never had to go through it. I would risk allergic reactions at school so I didn't have to sit alone. So eat your pb&j's at home.

Yup, me neither, I do however believe that the whole idea of allergens is just counter-productive for the human body. By that I mean, nothing benefits from someone having an allergy to cats right? So why do people have allergies to cats? Surely over the thousands of years that we have been on this earth, we would have evolved out of allergies, that natural selection would pluck it out of our genes and it would disappear but no, when could any part of life actually make any deal of fucking sense at all? Oh but there is one thing that I can recommend, sunscreen. Sunscreen is scientifically proven to help protect our skin from harmful UV rays, UNLIKE FUCKING ALLERGIES!

I could be that we detect it way more than we did in the past. Simply because medical technology has made a huge leap forward in the past 50 years. Or it could be that more people are being diagnosed being allergic to peanuts because a smaller reaction was not being diagnosed an allergy in the past, but now it does.

I heard this saying that banning peanuts is not the answer. But what about the many cases where when a Child smells ANY type of nut or nut product. They can go into analytic shock which is where there throat closes up. I worked in daycare for many years. I worked many children who were that allergic.
@ikoma3863

I wonder if anyone has thought that the rise of people allergic to things like this might simply be due to more people who are allergic passing on genes. With improvements in medical tech and diagnosis people are identified early on and survive a bad/potentially fatal reaction. Also pediatric doctors recommend slowly introducing babies to new foods as it will help identify what food causes an reaction. This comes after many cases of unidentified food reactions as seen in ERs around the nation. With all these people surviving what used to be a deadly reaction a hundred years ago, these people are passing on genes to new generations.

You don't even know what percentage are do you... sigh... I'm just so disappointed in humanity right now. Ok let me try to re-teach you and break it down as simple as possible. A percent is a number over a whole. For example: out of 100 people, 20 are allergic (20%). Out of 200 people 40 are allergic (20%). Out of 1000 people 200 are effected (20%) etc. If the total number of people increase and out of those people, less and less are being affected by peanuts then we say "percentages decrease" But out of the total number of people, more and more people are Being affected than we say "percentage increase". For instance: in 2005, there was 1000 kids in a town and 200 were allergic to peanuts (that's 20%). But in 2010, there were 2000 kids total and 1000 kids were allergic (that's 50%), 20%- 50% is an increase. As you can see, a percentage is a number over a whole (I really hope you know that). let's say in 2005, 500 out of 1000 kids were allergic (50%). And in 2010, 500/2000 Are allergic (25%). 50%- 25% is a decrease. Percentages are based on proportions so what you stated made no sense.

That's not a result of your environment, instead its more likely that is due to your genetics. Some people are predisposed to over-react to mild stimuli (allergies).

It's not just the allergies that are annoying to deal with, people that are idiots are too. And by this I mean the ijits that say "You aren't/can't be allergic to that." or "don't be silly, you just don't like/want to eat it". That last one was a NURSE when I told her eating pepper of any kind made me wheeze and hurts my chest. My own parents were like "you are not allergic to fish because WE eat it all the time". How does that matter? I shut them up by saying give me a tiny piece, then rubbed it on a small circle on the side of my arm. They watched as a lovely circle rash showed up, then started scaling or oozing. The nurse was an idiot too, she refused to put pepper on my allergy list then got yelled at by the floor nurse when she had to give me a nebulizer treatment for wheezing and coughing. So yes, sadly it's not just the allergy you have to put up with. It's easier to live with and you learn but the idiots always seem to pop up to make it worse.

I suppose it's possible, but technically we've been genetically engineering crops since the birth of agriculture. If a crop didn't grow to the satisfaction of the farmer, that crop wouldn't be given the opportunity to release any seeds, so stronger crops would survive to spread and weaker crops would die.

One of the reasons so many people are allergic is because the children were never exposed to peanuts or the immunity from the mother that prevents them from being allergic. The reason it has grown since the 70's is because that's when the so called hippie movement started. People began eating organic or using soy milk instead of regular milk because they thought it was more natural. This lead to a lower amount of women breastfeeding their babies, which then lead to less children with immunity to things such as peanut allergies. These children grew up on processed formula and other unnatural supplements preventing their bodies from developing properly. They developed problems that most people don't develops, such as peanut allergies. That's why many people grow out of their childhood allergies. They eventually build up an immunity to it from exposure. Many can get rid of their peanut allergies by eating small amounts of peanuts and then more as time progresses. Basically to prevent this from happening breastfeed your children and don't be so afraid to feed them normal food such as peanuts.

JustBookishThings My mom didn't breastfeed me because she had a health scare where they told her to stop breastfeeding. I was raised in formula and have tons of allergies compared to my sister who was breastfed until 3. She's got the strongest immune system! The thing is that I know a lot of people who were also formula fed and they are not allergic to anything. When it comes to making claims like this, one has to look at many many MANY situations, and it seems like not breastfeeding isn't a leading cause for why people have allergies. I still believe it was the case with me though :')
@evelynbaitz2732
@evelynbaitz2732 6 лет назад
I do not believe that it was a child breastfed vs a child not breastfed that has allergy or not. Both of my child we're not breastfeed because I was one of the few mom's who could not produce enough milk and latching was a problem for my children. They both had formula but one has a peanut allergy and the other did not. What I believe as one of the contribution is vaccinations. Of course it is also environmental as well as genetics. Each child reacts different to allergies and many types of allergies. Based on their genetics, some are more sensitive, bit I believe vaccinations, too many, is the culprit.

People used to die when exposed to peanuts because we didn't have as much medication available to reverse anaphylaxis. Im in my 3rd year of high school and i still get told by people that im an ass for bringing it (Even though in high school its allowed) . I guess what im saying is that people should not ridicule the people bringing it, but the ones with the allergies should be more careful of their surroundings.

If I eat nuts or fish, or come into contact with someone who has them I will come in a rash and the thought that people should be allowed to bring a lethal weapon to school is absurd in my eyes at least

Yes that's a good statement but the problem is that its food. i hate to say it but its your fault. its not really you its your body, the fact that someone can die from someones food blows my mind. just goes to show how weak we are.

Josh Parker I don't think you know what lethal means. Nor weapon.

I think someone's safety comes before your wants. If it can kill someone so easily like peanuts can, than they shouldn't be allowed. I don't care if people who eat them say they will wash their hands, because we all know they won't. If my brother dies because some dumb ass was too ignorant to wash his hands...

***** then in that case we should ban all foods and anything someone could be allergic to. also do bans really work?

I have a severe allergy to peanuts and I know it is because I grew up in "clean house." I have many relatives that have tree nut allergies including aunt, dad, grandma, and sister. It runs in my family and is simple as that. I had it since birth and nothing could have changed the outcome. My sister can eat peanuts but not tree nuts without having a complete breakdown.

I have eczema and grass makes me very itchy (as well as some lotion, soap, and well....plants) It’s not fatal, but it’s very annoying to itch all night and not being able to deal with it

Maybe a look into the main regions where they are grown for the biggest companies and what is in the soil or other factors in the growing process (like gmo seeds, pesticides, fertilizers, etc).

GI S Although I don’t have a peanut allergy myself, I’m allergic to other nuts and have asked my allergist if processed foods are to blame for the recent spike in food allergies. Apparently, it is not certain whether processed foods are to blame (I don’t believe so considering the increasing regulations companies face nowadays when it comes to pesticide usage) but antibiotics given to young children have been proven to alter the bacteria found in our stomachs which causes those to be allergic to the proteins found in specific foods.

Moms should be exposed to every potential allergen while pregnant. Unless they are already allergic to that substance. I wonder if intolerant is related to heartburn. I always hated the heartburn that oranges cause me. Now I am having trouble eating tomato paste products like spaghetti sauce without having heartburn.

Oranges and tomatoes are acidic that's why they can cause heartburn.

That part about mothers prepping the fetus by eating peanuts is very interesting!!! In my country of origin there is this puffed peanut snack that's very popular almost of staple food status. Almost no one there is allergic to peanuts. hmm...

I'm not allergic to anything, but when I stopped drinking whole milk for a few years and tried to start back one day my body couldn't handle it, but I can still eat dairy, just not whole milk unless it has the lactose gene in it.

"The number of people allergic to peanuts has tripled since the late 1970s and scientists don't even know why" Did you think to do a quick headcount, for a start? We hit 7b people in like, 2013 Those allergic could've had families, or something.

I am allergic to all kinds of nuts. It startes to itch under my chin and it affects my breathing. The same goes for pollen, all kinds of animals with hair, hay, grass, "root" vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, the round hard yellow one, the whiite and green that tastes like licorice (while raw), apples, pears(also, while raw), bee stings... It sucks having alergies!

I supposedly have a peanut allergy or my parents at least told me I do, but I occasionally eat peanut butter and I'm still breathing so not really sure if they made that up..

Funny thing I was never allergic to peanuts or any tree nuts until I was 11 years old. I ate it every single day. I am in my mid 20s now and I don't know why I can't eat them anymore, but when I eat them I go into anaphylactic shock.

I think whats causing the extreme allergies is how clean we are. We just don't let kids eat dirt and are so overcautious about everything.

I don't have an allergy to peanuts. But somewhere along the lines of changing my diet radically I cease to be able to digest peanuts. I can eat them but they just sort of rot in my system. I avoid them. But I do miss peanuts and peanut butter. I eat sunflower butter now.

I'm not just allergic to peanuts. I'm also allergic to walnuts, cashews, hazel nuts, macadamia nuts, pine nuts, pistachios, pecans... probably all tree nuts, but I haven't accidentally had them all/been tested for them.
