Build what Church because the building is what house the church which is the believers. Jesus didn't command us to go out and build large buildings, small buildings or medium buildings. I retired from the military after 22 years of active duty. After retirement, I became the director of health services for one of the federal prisons. I own two mercedes and a Tahoe. I own a five bedroom, three bathroom house with an inground pool and basketball court. I no longer work, but I'm a full-time pastor. I've been pastoring for one year. I know some people who don't know me will think I got what I have frome the church. I couldn't survive off what the church pays me. I live off of my Navy retirement and savings. The church pays me $700 bi-weekly, and I give $1,000 back to the church monthly. My point is that people always think preachers are getting rich off the church. A lot of the people in church don't know how to budget. But, they will get offended if you want to teach a class on budgeting. I never teach on tithing because they are grown ups, they know what they are supposed to do, but most of them don't know how to budget. Therefore, they can't tithe...IJS.

I’ve been to church four times since COVID. I talk to God directly and I live a Christian lifestyle. I’ve cut out the middle man who only tries to guilt you into giving money at least three times during one morning church service.

The pastor is right half of the people that come to church don’t give anything. Only about 10% give or serve in church on a regular basis. Not to say that there aren’t some shady pastors that don’t do the right thing. There are a lot of good ones who do the right thing.
To everyone that may see this, tithing is not an “investment” it’s a heart posture proclaiming that the money I have isn’t mine to begin with. Jesus talks about this in Mark 12 about, “give to God what is God’s” it’s about understanding that what I receive is God’s. So I’m sure my brother Keion didn’t mean it, but it would be unwise to think of tithing as an investment.

The vast majority of preachers in this country are not rich or anywhere close. At best, they're "hood rich." We just tend to focus on the handful of the most wealthy ones. Some have jobs on the side. Some get a salary from the church. Most don't have big money at all. Even a lot of the ones you see with nice cars are just as broke as everyone else with nice cars. All this is leftover from the Civil Rights era. White people wanted to turn us against the church and they wanted black women to dislike the church. I got blackmailed in Nashville TN as a drummer. Because I told a pastor who was big known and famous and was the preacher for the Cleveland cavs preacher to pray for every game (he got $30,000) every time he prayed for them per game! ) I told him “if yall can pay guest pastors $20,000 to come preacher. U can pay us musicians at least $200 a Sunday! Instead of $75 and some chips and a prayer! He got so mad cause people agreed with me and stopped playing around the town. (This was years ago) he banned me from the church and put a bad name on me in Nashville TN. But I’m playing r&b with a lot of big artist that pay more than $200 a Sunday lol but that is why we stopped playing for churches cause they wouldn’t pay us. We went to genres that would pay us lol.

You can't throw every pastor under the bus because they know business and create wealth. My spiritual father was the epitome of a business man. He opened a federal credit union for the members and committee. He payed physicians to treat people that couldn't get health insurance. He built apartments for the elderly because of his business knowledge. What he does with his business for his personal gain is his business. The membership has 24 hrs. to take care of their business and 24 hrs. to leave everyone elses business alone.
I dont think anybody understands what pastor Keion just said right there. These flew right past them. For every 10% you give he gives 25 of all his earnings. Given his church salary he is probably operating at a negative. What is putting bread on his table are his investments and businesses. He got himself some degrees not just from the seminary.
