I would i rather to pick up a Rubicon then a Side-by-side you will be spinning a lot more money on a side beside then on a Jeep got a buy the side-by-side gotta buy a trailer than gotta by truck to tow it with a Jeep go anywhere in the world that you want to go but that's just my opinion.
how many people really do have that to throw away though? most don't own most of anything they have, the bank owns it all. people just LOVE making payments though.
@@zzz7zzz9 apparently just be enough to keep that market going. I guess you could look at vehicle's the same way. Who has 100k for a Porsche yet they keep selling. Not going to lie 30k way to much for a sxs but it's for the ppl that can buy it obviously. I prefer to buy older and build it myself. They all get down the trail doesn't matter make model or year. Some might just be comfier than others, hats off to those who have the money to spend on that toy.
You're not going to believe this but some of us make wise investments, save our money, don't eat out all the time and spend money like crazy. I purchased my RZR Turbo cash and over the past 2 years have probably put another 20k into it. Many of the people I ride with are in the same boat. A lot of people just don't know how to manage their money in the first place.
Not a toy. Depends where you live. here in Lake Havasu city this is literally a daily driver. Otherwise, yeah maybe it's a toy. Here, it's fun at any moment.
Or 30k for a first gen 6cyl Tacoma or t100 or ranger or dakotah with engine upgrades suspension bumpers winch and wheels tires and it still is allowed on roads and insurance is cheaper and I bet your still not even at 20k
@@claireelliot6846 I just sold my 16 570 and trailer for 7k it was a waste of money I lost money on mpgs towing it and they cost more at parks they cost more in maintenance ECT back to a raptor 700 for me.
I am from a motocross background. Raced for years on bikes and quads. Oh and I had the three wheelers back in the day (really showing my age here). I have had lifted offroad trucks also. So anyway I got a utv in 2016. I bought a RZR xp1000 turbo. Then here in early 2018 I bought a Ranger XP900 H.O. crew lifted 6 inches. I got my rzr to have fun on jumps and fast riding. Being older got something with a roll cage. I use the ranger for working around our property. While I do not like the high cost of these units. I do feel as though they cannot be compared to a truck or jeep. Simply just built very differently. I live in a rural area so I do travel on public roads for short distances. Usually within two miles of my shop. I do have a bragging story in which I am probably one of the few people that has taken their active county sheriff for a 70mph ride on a public road because he asked me "show me what this thing will do".
lol, no. the county sheriff wanted to have some fun on his day off, and also done some inquiry on the unit that he was using. he was investigating while off duty.. . . more than likely. aaaaannd also had some fun.
I personally think the prices are a little excessive.... As well, when you spend $35,000 on a SxS and it comes with 6 month warranty, that’s kind of insufficient as well.... I think if some brands warrantied their machines for longer periods of time it would help justify the price.... Sad that you spend the money they command and 800 miles later when the warranty is done you’re replacing stuff that has worn out.... I agree they’re capable and superior to jeeps etc especially when you get something like the Turbo S with 25” of suspension.... Either way, the price has exploded in recent years and like snowmobiling, companies would be wise to offer value models so more people can enter the sport.... Your first SxS may be $10,000 but if you like the sport, you may spend more the next time.... my 2 cents! Good video once again!
Yeah, some vehicles experience abuse to and are warrantied for 5 years and 60,000+ miles.... I agree SxS’s are beat up, but they’re designed for most of the abuse they get....
Yes kinda like they did in the last two years with jetskis. The entry priced spark by sea doo has had a sales explosion. And now yahmaha has their entry model ex too.
Jesse Stephenson exactly! You can get “entry level” watercraft and snowmobiles, but you can’t get a SxS for a decent price.... I know you can buy a SxS with a 570cc engine and it’s not overly priced but I’m talking budget. No 25” travel, no EPS, just something reliable to get families out on the trails!
I've been debating about buying for a few years now and due to the prices of new and their lack of real warranty we (wife included) to wait till the kiddos are older. We are also afraid to purchase used due to fears of excessive abuse. Maybe a jeep and nice slow trails is good enough.
the price has actually come down on them quite a lot as well, they've just continued to add higher and higher performance models and competition has increased. The XP 1000s used to be 20k and the XP Turbos used to be 25k. Now you can get an XP 1000 for 14-16k even they're running good deals or end of year sales and you can get an XP Turbo for under 20k. And they've also added the single seat RS1 that you can get for less than 14k and still have a blast with over 100hp.
All good points. Even a new dirt bike can cost you 10,000 nowadays. If your not into sxs’s then of course the cost sounds outrageous. I would never spend 30,000 on a Harley either, but then again I’m not really into them.
You’ll just go in circles trying to compare it to a Jeep/Taco/4Runner/LandRover/G-Wagon etc .... it’s a recreational vehicle, it’s category is shared by boats, wave runners etc. trailered to where you go to get away for time away to play. You’re not getting groceries or going to the hardware store, not picking friends from the airport or train station, not loading up friends & going to a concert, nobody is taking Grandma to her doctors appointment in one. $30k for it is no different than $40k for a 12 passenger jet boat with wake boarding tower & ballast bladders for wake surfing
Here in Casper, WY we can make them street legal and drive them on the streets just need horn and mirror and you can plate one and drive it all over town and people do.
289pinto .... however you get a hidden head, stern shower, better stereo & with Bimini/ Canvas set up can sleep 4+ on a boat. Will never forget my wife’s expression sipping coffee and watching deer swimming in the morning mist towards the islands on the Mississippi ( coffee makers that plug into cigarette lighters are a must )
I agree with you ppl seem to get lost in the fact that they're in fact "toys" they're just like tools you use them in the conditions you bought them for and you put them away. Yes some ppl can justify $30k for a toy some ppl buy older and have just as much fun without the fancy stuff. At the end of the day with a sxs you got stuck in the mud had some laughs got wenched out and had a great time. Happy riding.
Sorry Tim, but you are a bit wrong. there are many places where these are daily drivers and where I live in Lake Havasu city Arizona this is totally a vehicle you can drive every day. 100% street legal and one of the most common vehicles on the road. I've gone and got groceries many many times in mine.
570s aren’t 8k anymore, straight from a manufacturer it’s 10.5k, with an easy 2-3k more for dealership costs, warranty, etc etc. you can buy a 900 for 15k at a dealer, it’s a lot more justifiable than spending 13k on a substantially underpowered machine
had a 2012 RZR 900XP, i ended up selling it after a year or so. I prefer riding a 4 wheeler. SXS do have a lot of performance and the suspension is truly incredible, but I like the ATVs because it requires more skill and body language to get it to do what you want. That and you basically need a car trailer to haul it around and a spare bay indoors to keep a SXS out of the weather
Stock TJ wrangler: around $10,000 Simple lift kit: around $550 Lunchbox locker: around $300 Go anywhere you want offroad, get yourself there legally onroad.
@@VoIPPortland I don't think side by sides were around that long ago. There were 4 wheelers/ATVs but today's ATVs would embarrass them on every front. So apples to apples we have better performing machines and now add inflation and the value of the dollar going down slowly every year and today's stuff looks expensive. A Mustang GT in 1990 was around $14,000, today's Mustang GTs are $35,000. But how much more horsepower, fit and finish, comfort, features, suspension, brakes and safety is in the new ones? Stuff gets better and the dollar looses value. There's why prices are where they are.
I have a friend who bought an 800 polaris brand new, the dealer loaded it on the trailer we drove back to his house, when he started it and put it in reverse the shifting linkages fell out of it, he had to call the dealer for them to send a technician out to repair it while it was still on the trailer brand new, he literally just sat in it started it and put it in reverse.
Its definitely a life style choice between jeep and sxs. We were on the trails in idaho, passed some jeeps going in. Made it a fire look out, then over to a lake, looped to a second lake, ate lunch, then went back out the way we came. Ran into the group of jeeps. They told us they hadnt even made it to the fire lookout turnout. That sold me even more. I loved my jeep, but my sxs is hands down better when it comes to offroading out the door.
I'm ok with spending 5g on a toy, this is crazy. If you have that kind of money congratulations I guess, but I suspect most just opt for the lengthy finance payments.
I have the cash for all my toys. Money is cheap though. I finance at 3.5% for my toys and keep the cash in the market. My stocks make me 5-10% in dividends. My mutual funds are reinvesting at 9-15%. Paying cash for stuff is not the best financial move when you can have it in investments netting much better returns than that cheap loan.
Last year we got the 2020 1000 turbo s 4 seater and I love that thing, I’m able to hop on it and drift around in the streets and it is completely stock
Your first argument about "not able to drive on the road" isn't true everywhere either. I have plates on mine and drive from tail to trail down the highway if I want to. All of my 'break in period' miles were on roads -- way easier than the beating it gets on the trail. I think it's ridiculous that people aren't allowed to drive these on the roads in other jurisdictions, they're way safer than a motorcycle. But I also live somewhere that farm machinery is frequently seen on those same highways and roads.
He did mention there are a few places you can drive a SxS on the road, but let’s be real. If there was ever a prime example of something that is an exception to the rule, it’s this. There are so few states where driving a SxS in the road is legal, it’s almost not worth mentioning.
My Odes Dominator 800 has plates and can be driven on road. Here in Texas you pay the road tax for every new vehicle regardless of what it is. If you don't want to pay the tax, you don't have to but you can't drive on the roads. Additionally it's just like cars and must be insured and pass inspection.
Shocks and HP do not cost the manufacturer or engineers that much more to figure out. It’s ridiculous. The people who made the off-road market viable can no longer afford to play in it properly.
That's like someone who grew up in a Ford Falcon complaining that they can't afford the new GT. For the money that would get you the original rzr 800 s you can still get an equivalent (but better) model. You just can't afford the biggest and best.
Hooty this is particularly true. If you look at any toy, atv, watercraft etc the base models of the 90s equivalence are 14k in Canada out the door. I bought a new Waveblaster 2 for 7600$ tax in. With trailer. Anything similar would cost 14k. My kodiak 400 or 450 would cost 12 after all is said. Salaries have not risen in proportion.
Every year, they incrementally increase hp and or displacement to justify a larger cost. If I had to guess, I'd think 95% of consumers are financing these things and what's another 1000 bucks over 60 payments. Market is big enough to support these increases in price and competition, but I'd be surprised if it continues to increase in the next 10 years like it did in the last 10.
My 2 cents, bought a new XP1k in 2015 have over $30k in it with all the mods. Was a lot of fun the first year, by the end of year 2 it has become mainly a lawn ornament next to my shed. About all I use it for now is plowing snow in the winter and riding over to friends houses nearby. Most of the main trails are posted to where you can't get anywhere without trailering and as we've got busier we just haven't bothered. My $30k+ toy is now worth probably $15k if I'm lucky. If I had to do it again I'd have bought a used one half off instead of throwing money down the drain on a brand new one. At this point it is what it is but if I did it again I'd buy a jeep or a used side by side.
This explanation while basic & incomplete is correct. As an aftermarket parts distributor once said to a friend of mine, “you bought an off road vehicle to ride in the woods & want it to ride like a Cadillac, what do you expect…” As these machines are being used, people find different uses for them, we & the manufacturers modify them & they respond to their market. These aren’t street legal or even legal to ride on trails in New York State, along with many other places. Also these machines aren't made for being street legal, you have to buy accessories to do that. When purchasing a UTV 5 years ago I bought a 2 person basic model with lights, roll cage & dump box for $12,000. The roof, windshield, rear window, doors, heater, radio with Bluetooth, GPS etc... are all considered extras! Yes I bought an off road machine & knew all this before purchasing, a roof, windshield & cab when it unexpectedly rains is nice & a heater is good when needed, winches are a must too. Automobiles were once as primitive & basic as UTVs were 10 or more years ago, now we have cars with A/C, radios, tire pressure sensors, USB ports, wifi capability, responsive cruise control & so many other “nice add-ons.” Self-driving autos are in testing --&’ll stay there for another few decades I bet. UTVs are as complicated & have computers controlling engine, 4 wheel drive & other functions… If we want these features on our “off road toys,” we’ll pay for it, 1 way or another. Soon we’ll no longer be able to do any maintenance ourselves, just like is happening with autos. Mechanics aren’t mechanics any longer, they’re “Automotive or Off Road VehicleTechnicians” who go to school & pass tests to properly work on these autos or UTVs. We are supporting the designers, dealer /owner, sales people, technicians, etc.. who bring us these machines, that’s why they’re $30,000.
I have a CAN-AM X3 XRS I paid 34k for and I say it's work every penny. If you think about it, they have to be insanely strong to be able to withstand the environment they were built to drive in.
I ditched my money pit '15 Wrangler Jk. I bought it new, went off-road and became hooked. Before I knew it I was 20k into mods and a monster off-road. This was my daily driver and it's on-road manners, where I spend 99% of time were now horrible. I flushed it and got a '18 GT mustang. What a blast! 460 HP! I'll get a beater soon and get back on the trails.
My brother is wanting to get one of these by summer, I like side by sides but I was raised on four wheelers, either way I’m about to purchase an ol 04 Honda recon to get my own journey started and one day I’ll be able to dish out money for a grizzly or outlander
Just bought a used side by side buggy. $1400 Canadian. 175cc motor. Guess what? My wife and I are going to have just as much fun on the trails as anyone can have. Also bought a used 1999 Yamaha WR 400 dirt bike three years ago for $2500 Canadian and I have just as much fun riding 600 to 1000 kms a year on the trails as the guy with his brand new $12,000 KTM. Just can’t justify spending that much scratch on something I’m going to drag through the mud!
Ya i have a 2001 Honda Rancher 4x4 ATV. Thing wont die. Looked into getting as new one anyway but bought a Jeep TJ for 5K instead. Best decision ever and i still have my ATV.
you design those to be the week links so you dont tear the difs out of it.....people like you would really complain if you had to replace that. get a 32" tire free spinning in the air then get traction to it. do you have any clue how much force that is. yes it will blow the axle to save the dif.
I've got a Yamaha YXZ1000 SXSW. Tops out at just over 90 mph. I'm in W.Va. . If the road doesn't have a painted center lined 4wheeler and sxs are legal. It paddle shifters and launch control. I go weeks without getting in my truck. From deer hunting to beer runs.
I got a chance to ride in my friends 4 seat non turbo Razor and I was very impressed. I could not believe how smooth the ride was over the roughest terrain. Also was a dream to drive in the Pismo sand dunes. Having said that I couldn't afford to buy one. It will have to be put on my future lottery winnings wish list. lol.
Also keep in mind that powersports companies are not selling 900,000 of them a year like Ford does with its F150. Polaris sells about 55,000 RZRs a year, so costs cannot be amortized across as large a production run.
Get in a jeep and keep up with a side by side on the trail and the jeep will be reduced to scrap metal in the first mile. I have a modded Kawasaki teryx 4 seater. I can jump it, take my family for a ride, go get firewood, plow snow, go camping, tow a trailer ect... I paid $14,000 for it and put about $5,000 in extras on it. Most people are in this range. $30,000 for a high end sport machine is not a bad price but they are the sports car of the side by side industry. When you consider that a new atv is $10,000 the sport utility side by sides are a bargin.
or you don't drive it lol. ALl my friends who have these things have nothing but issues. Then you have the guy over the weekend at the Hatfield and McCoy trails in WV who somehow got out to the mudpits without a spec of dirt on his. We guessed he cleaned it up all nice and purrty when he parked it lol
Our Can Am's have never broke and they are road legal in Nevada and many other western states like Arizona, Utah, Montana, Wyoming ect. Our town is full of side by sides.
@@scottbarshinger3660 same old argument from someone who has no idea what he's talking about and always says "my friends own them and they're junk" which is most likely a lie. If they were junk they wouldn't be the most popular most powerful mass produced off road toy on the planet!
This is an apples to oranges comparison. quick fun story.. I have a modded Jeep and was on a hard trail called Greens mountain. A group of us Jeepers are slowly making are way through a trail. We then hear two side by sides and offer them to pass us and they ripped through a section of the trail we were on in front of us just dancing up the trail like it was nothing.. and that my friends is why they are so expensive. It's literally plug and play off roading!
You can actually take sxs’s on the street where I live but you’re restricted to roads with speed limits under 55 mph, my dad and I took a rzr about 50 miles from our house to another town in our state, you must have a rear view mirror and a license plate then you’re good to go, so you can take them places without a trailer but you are definitely limited on what roads you can take
After you're done spending $28k on that top of the line SxS then you realize that it needs a roof, a windshield, the other half of the doors, mud protection, a skid plate, bumpers, lights, a winch, better tires / rims, radio, more storage, insurance, a truck and trailer to pull it with, hotel rooms for your big trips to go riding, gas and expensive repairs every couple hundred miles. Oh, and you may also need a place to store the truck, trailer and SxS which in some cases means you have to buy a bigger house. I figure its about $500K when you're all done. You better be well off before "investing" in the money pit of a SxS.
That's why I got a two for one deal, I purchased a 2019 Raptor Supercrew. One drawback is it's very wide and unfortunately to wide for some trails. I'd still love to get a General, had a Polaris 4x4 sportsman many years ago but I'm a lot older now and had both knees replaced so an ATV would be hard for me to ride as you use your knees alot when trail riding.
I mean if you put an extra 5k in you can probs get a nice roof windshield with wiper and rear window and just put a street legal kit on it and drive that. I’m sure you can get a heater radio and doors on it
All good points I just don't it ironic that you didn't show any video of these things in an environment that the jeep couldn't also do. As for my f150 I could do a lot with 30k in upgrades. The rest of the truck is for daily use.
Every single company makes a side by side that is sub 11k, for beginners or low budget enthusiast, you don't have to go out and spend 30 grand on a machine, there are many more options. And if you don't feel like going with the mainstream machines there are even more
you forgot the most important reason as to why they charge so much..... because they can. no federal regulations for crash protection, turn signals, etc. still the same cost as a decent car.
I talked my seller of a 2001 jeep Cherokee down from $3500 to $1500 complete with the 6.5 long arm lifts front and back running 33' tires. There is nothing your side by side that i cannot do for a fraction of the price.
matt34003434 I never said their content wasn’t entertaining, even comical at times 😂. It just comes off like a BRP paid-for ad. Between Aundre “use low range on a snowy hill” Smirnov, their mechanic that seems to no nothing about small block Chevys (the most common engine in North America), and this Stephen fellow from the liberal stronghold of Ontario Canada telling people that $30000 for a glorified golf cart is reasonable because it’s fast and has long suspension travel, it’s hard to take them seriously.
kong3 like I said....the TFL fan club.... yes we are “The Two Ryans”. You are absolutely right, the locking diffs are what separate it from a golf cart...😂😂😂
In our town, you can make a sxs street legal. I'm still not buying one for fun, but may buy a ranger or something in the future to build on our property. I own a Jeep Wrangler and it takes me where I need to go. That said, what do I care how much someone spends on a toy. Just get the outrageous price of food and gas down and I'll be happy.
It just kills me how fast they deprecate I bought a 2018 xp 1000 brand new when they first came out $21,000 I was looking at trading it in on a 2019 turbo they offered me $11,000 for my rzr has 150 miles and 32 hours absolutely crazy. It’s pretty much brand new. They depreciate x20 faster than any vehicle I’ve ever owned.
You also have to store it somewhere, and tow vehicle, gas, maintenance, I think ATVs or dirt bikes would be good for beginners to see if they would be ok with the sxs l
30k (Edit: 30k for a starting price!?) for something that is about as safe as a ford pinto with coilovers, isn't worth my money. you could get a used ford raptor for less than 30k, and be able to go on roads with it.
You can buy a TJ for 7k , you can build an entire off-road race suspension for another 10k axles included, and if a turbo I6 isn’t cutting it swap it for another 6-7k so that puts you in at less than a rzr . This also assumes that you can build it yourself or use a kit like Gen Right offers for Jeeps, but it’d be street legal. I guess if you can do it yourself and being street legal matters to you get a jeep or if street legality doesn’t matter and you have 30k+ mias well pick up a rzr I suppose 😂
That’s overpriced tho I own 2 jeeps and they’re great and your always adding on to it and in 5-6 years these Polaris rzrs engines will need rebuilt while my Jeep can be running for 30+ years
Actually, it's worth every penny if you have the time and money to enjoy a side-by-side... and don't mind paying for the needed accessories to make the purchase worth the effort. Living in the mountains, my 2018 Yamaha Viking is like my main vehicle and, although it doesn't make rooster tails in the mud, I can make this sucker climb a tree with all the low end torque of that 700 EPS power plant. My big concern with these rigs is they're all plastic and, although pliable to a degree, split and crack when things go sideways.... A front/back bumper system and 4-point safety harnessing later, the 25 grand invested is worth every penny.
Used stock jeep wrangler =$10k 4" Lift, CYE, CV DRIVESHAFT, Billstein shocks, ARB LOCKERS, 35" tires, Winch = $7k $17k = Jeep wrangler that is far more capable than a side by side with 31" tires at half the cost and you can drive it home. No brainer.
It's because they can. Simple as that. There's some economies of scale involved, and manufacturing with tubes costs more than stamped sheet metal, but it's mostly because people will pay it. Put all the extravagant specs on it you want. You definitely can't compare a custom race vehicle. You can't compare a car or Jeep, they have multi million dollars put into R&D for electronics, computers, weight and efficiency optimization, crash safety engineering. Etc. Compared to a road vehicle UTVs are a scam. But people buy them. The manufacturers are making a KILLING of a margin on these things.
Also keep in mind that these SXS depreciate like a stone falling off a cliff. I just went on Craigslist and saw many newer models 2017-2018 that are at least 50% of the price you would pay at the dealership. All of them had a lot of accessories installed.
Rather just buy a lightly used 4 wheeler, which I did. Slapped a plow on it to use it year round. Works well. If i had a ton of land AND a ton of disposable income then hell yeah Id pick one of those up but it just isnt worth it where I live
I know this video is old, but I wasn’t looking for a SxS 2yrs ago. Lol Anyway, you hit the problem square on the head at the end. There is no interest in marketing a sub-$10k base sport model. That is THE problem. I’m 48yrs old with a worn out back and knee. I would be fine with a lower power but better (taller & more travel) suspension option for a lower price.
Speaking of worth it is all about what are you looking to get out of it before you can say it's actually worth it. you need to ride in one to actually see what they are capable of. Then if you have the guts to drive it the way it was built to be driven and the skill to take it to it's limits or even ride in it with a driver that knows what he's doing then you actually see what you get for your money and that's where you see the worth. but if you are not going to drive it that way or are too scared to drive it that way then it may not be worth it to you. We'll just sit back and eat lunch and wait for you to catch up in your Jeep.
I struggle with this all the time..no trails close by. I'd have to buy a trailer. I dont have time for that.. then the price tag isn't worth it imo..if it was street legal? Absolutely!
I dont understand why the Kawasaki Teryx cost so much when its the most simple SxS out there basically. Lowest power and just basically a woods and trail low speed tank. Yet its still 17 gran?? Id love to have one but damn thats a lot. You can but a sport 1000 Can Am Maverick for that price. I think the Kawasaki Teryx should be the 10k dollar SxS and I would definitely buy one.
I can see why these are fun, but I hate them. I live in Utah and these things are everywhere, driven by people with more money (or debt) then sense. You used to be able to enjoy a quiet campsite, but now you hear these things buzzing all over the place. I was almost in a front end collision with one because 5 or 6 of them where flying down a dirt road and the last one was driving completely blind in the dust. I pulled off and laid on the horn and he still had to swerve at the last minute to miss me. People used to be able to just drive their Jeeps to go wheeling, but now you have these huge $200k convoys with a massive truck pullig a massive toyhauler (or a camper trailer with another trailer behind it with side by sides). The same idiots how are going way too fast in their side by sides are going way too fast on the highway in these rigs. Then you get to the desert and you see people pulling off the road and camping where they're not supposed to be. As said in the video, these things are almost trophy trucks, the thing is people who drive trophy trucks have the skills to drive them, but not everyone with $30k to throw down has the skills or sense to be safe in these.
As a brit side by sides are purely for throwing around a track, granted you can get them road registered so you can go green laneing, but £20,000 $30,000 Is way too much, you can pick up a early defender 90 and strip it down for £2,000 but then there is me with a rally spec DR650 which is road legal
i have a 13 rzr 800s with all the upgrades and suits me and my wife and kids fine.like everything else,if there is a demand and people will pay it,people are going to sell it,the way it is.I would never spend even $15k on one,no way.dont even spend that much on a vehicle but thats me.dont get me wrong,i love mine and would love to upgrade but have more things in my life i would like to do instead putting all my eggs in one basket. the other problem with these units is that they require ALOT of maintenance!if they are not taken care of,they will break and break they do.They are just like driving that jeep down the trail at 30-40 mph and hitting rocks, trees, whatever it may be.stuff wears out and is like repairing another vehicle, can get expensive real quick.i fix all my own stuff so i only have parts to take of but costs are high.labor of love i guess you say.Heck, people pay $40k on AVERAGE at my local boating dealer!insane
You asked for it, so I'll come right out and say it... You ARE out of your mind. The only reason these things are so expensive is because the marketing departments of the major players in the industry have created a lot of false demand through clever advertising, selling the idea of, "freedom and adventure!" There is MUCH more engineering and componentry cost that goes into building the average new Kia Rio than the most advanced version of one of these toys. Compared to the ones of mainstream automakers, the R&D departments of Polaris, Can Am and the like are a few guys in a garage wearing ball caps with propellers on top. To compare these tinker toys to a full-blown trophy truck is laughable! They do run races where trophy trucks also run (Baja 1000), and they always turn in significantly slower times than the big boys. In fact, on average, they're the slowest finishing class of all of them, even compared to relatively stock vehicle classes like the Jeep Speed class; and those are highly modified racing side by sides. Hell, the bulk of the cost of any road going vehicle, is aerodynamic and aesthetic design, and safety engineering, and these companies don't even need to do it, they don't even try. There's maybe a total of $8K in parts, materials, and components in the highest end side by side. Factor in labor to assemble it, and destination charges, and you're around $10K to $12K. Dealer prep fees and overhead would be around $500, plus a fair dealer profit of 6% ($600 to $720), you're looking at $13,220, not $30,000. Don't even get me started on the prices of used ones... These things get beat to hell off road, it's what they're DESIGNED for. In 5 years time, they should only be worth about $2,000... Unless they were almost never used, or something like that.
Question tho,..in utah they are street legal so I'd LOVE one but have heard of you use it as a daily driver a few days a week , these motors are not good for hardly many miles at all. That's a concern.
thanks for the video well I had a Jeep and I had a great time with that jeep and it costed me a lot of money if you buy one stock and you want to fix it up to do anything like rock crawling or doing some technical four Whelen you will spend thousands just like you said I know because I recently went shopping for a side-by-side and could not believe the prices I looked at your reviews and other people's reviews and as far as price point I went with the Kawasaki Teryx LE model didn't cost me nowhere near what the Polaris is cost and it came with a 3-year warranty the Polaris gets more travel yes you get bigger wheels and tires and yes you get a bigger motor but as far as rock climbing technical stuff going through the woods tight trails all that horsepower and suspension you don't need the Kawasaki comes with Fox shocks plenty of ground clearance it climbs like a mule very comfortable machine it's a mid-engine machine so it is noisy but that does not bother me the machine tops out at 52 miles an hour which is plenty fast enough for me unless you are on the west coast and you are in Glamis Pismo Beach where there are Dunes then you would definitely want to have that extra suspension travel and horsepower and if you want to make it even more capable you can do what I did I put a 2 inch lift kit on mine removed the sway bar which is a must and put one size bigger tire and a winch and a light bar and I can pretty much take that thing anywhere
I think the biggest issue is how everything is plastic and if you want a windshield and doors they upcharge you several thousand dollars. I looked at a Kinetic XP Ranger, a two seater electric and by the time I added doors, roof and windshield it was 61k CAD. 61 GRAND for a utility vehicle. No 24 inches of suspension travel, or any of the other points you were referencing.
Yeah tbh I would get a side by side over a Jeep any day. Even if you got your keep to be as capable as a side by side, 1 it’d cost a ton and then it wouldn’t be as practical on the regular road.
Where I live in Canada...we have sidexside cause we don't want to beat our $70k trucks, even jeeps that are done up can't go where we take the sidexside....I used to have two trucks onedaily driver and a hunting and 4x4 truck....it was way more expensive having two trucks than a nice truck and a sidexside...I still take my daily driver in the bush, it's a 09 Tacoma with 6" lift, 35" duratrac, Detroit locker in rear...buy there are places it can't and I won't take it...and that's why sidexside bis better than a jeep...mind you in my opinion Tacoma's are also better than jeeps....I live in the west kootaneys of British Columbia which is the most beautiful and one of the most rugged places in the world...way more Tacoma's than jeeps around here, and more Tacoma's than every other manufacturers combined out in the bush
