Why Are Sisterlocks Consultants Choosing Not to Re-Certify

For years my clients and followers have asked WHY people are so negative when it comes to Sisterlocks vs. microlocks.... why it's so hard to find people who know how to do repairs.... to find consultants that are willing to answer questions about why certain things are occurring . . WHYYYYY are consultants choosing not to re certify and what that means...???.and the list goes on and on.🤦🏾‍♀️
These are great LOADED questions that could have infinite answers depending who you ask and Since 2015. I have always attempted to share helpful information with my followers that I actually share with my clients when I advise them. Even as an active consultant with the brand I was an advocate for transparency, client advocacy, and righteous business practices for consultants and trainees. None of these things have changed for me, but to know that my invention is at the root of even one person being made to feel like they have to choose between supporting my brand and getting a tool they want vs their overall business being impacted negatively becausr of that choice....that's low down nasty work.
In the last four years I have seen what a lack of sisterhood looks like for someone who chooses to go against "the machine" and popular opinion and I have seen what courage looks like for those who publicly and privately supported my efforts to do something different when I stepped away. I'm thankful for them all because I sleep very well at night with a clear conscience about how I treat people.
Hopefully in listening to this, you will gain some insight on the complex dynamics of a culture that has been baffling folks for years and why the current statenof things are pointing to problems. Folks are tired and no longer willing to remain silent. I definitely DO NOT have all the answers, but I damn sure do have some!

We live in a "free market". They don't have the monopoly on small locs. They just didn't have any notable competition for decades. Now they do. They need to learn how to play the game and EVOLVE, IMPROVE, cuz Sisterlocks out here looking bad.

THIS is a whole word right here! The lack of "competition" bred a culture of complacency and disrespect that was not based upon client needs. Many consultants were nasty to customers knowing that access to consultants in their locations was limited so they took advantage of their fear and lack of knowledge about microlocks. They had an entire facebook group shut down with threats because the consultants were supporting other brands created by actual consultants like myself. There is so much people just don't know. I'm actually surprised that they haven't been taken to court on some of the shenanogans bc it's crazy. Smh.

They need to get it together for three reasons. 1. In some states, locticians can do their thing without a whole lot of regulation. The widespread adoption of legislation like the Crown Act places more attention on the natural hair industry. The more "professionals" show that they don't know how to act, the more likely the states could be to impose more restrictions on the profession. Them jacking people's heads up and being sloppy in business could eventually get noticed by someone other than us. 2. Now is not a good time for bullies and folks who don't act with integrity. Smart CEOs know that one of the quickest ways to grow a business is to adapt. Learn from your mistakes, be transparent about them, and show the public that you're listening and making the right changes. Don't let your ego take your business under. 3. There's plenty of room for more businesses in this realm, and competition is long overdue. Their actions and insults about other creators only prove that true competition is needed and that they ain't ready for it. Cuz of how they moving, their spot is officially open.

I've had my sisterlocks for almost 8 years and I used their products for maybe a month, I didnt like them. I'm no longer interested in having a perfect grid, that's not important to me...having healthy hair is more important. I also could care less what tool my consultant is using, as long as it gets the job done, I'm fine with it.

BINGO. HEALTHY hair should be the objective. I do not have a problem with a business owner protecting their business legally, but I do not believe in all the other stuff.

I have had my Sisterlocks 4 years and have had to change locticians several times. I have lost or had at least 3-4 locks break and none of my locticians were able to repair them. I stopped using the SL products just a few months into my journey. So much has happened in 4 years the last thing on my mind is whether or not I even have sisterlocks anymore. I started telling people I have microlocs because I don’t follow the rules. I don’t care about my grid. I just do whats best for me and my hair.

Unfortunately your experience is not uncommon at all. Many of us seasoned consultants when active shared tips on repairs within our private networks and many of the newbies coming in are now doing great and creating content for people to see what is required tonproperly maintain locs. I recall distinctly asking a specific question in my training about repairs bc my brain is very analytical and the answer was just a vanilla generic answer to pacify. I knew then and there that if I wanted to be well-rounded to meet my future clients' needs, I'd have to experiment and research on my own and do trial and error. I tell people beautiful grids are nice, but I'm more concerned with are the locs healthy and flourishing from those things that we can actually control. Many clients get to a point where the grid obsession becomes secondary to healthy hair so kudos to you. It is hard to find good locticians out here so I'm sorry you had the negative experience that you did.🙏🏾

“Atmosphere of fear.” The best description I’ve heard thus far!
@goldeefromlockzitude
@goldeefromlockzitude 3 месяца назад
Many don't even realize that fear has been driving the culture behind the scenes. People don't leave for fear of not being able to sustain clients... not having access to the tools and products without the name and it is sad and ver reminiscent of what happened with some slaves when they thought about life without "massa". The similarity literally makes me sick.

I’m sorry you’re having to go through this. It’s really sad when the market is large enough for both companies and then some be successful. This is a crabs in a barrel mentality straight from the plantation. We need to uplift our fellow black business owners. You’re making valid points. The freedom of choice is what matters. It should be about the customer in the end. The smartest thing you did was to legally cover your assets and intellectual property. This only means that you have a great product! I’ve always wanted micro lock. I had loc extensions that I lost just after the pandemic because I wasn’t moisturized enough and made the mistake of dying my hair platinum blonde.🤦🏾‍♀️ Now, I had a big chop and will begin a lock journey with my silver hair. I’ll look for your tool Queen!

Thanks you so much and you truly "get it." It's unfortunate that the negativity has to be addressed, but I can't stand bullying and people being taken advantage of. Sorry to hear about your platinum blonde experience...but when we know better, we do better, so cheers ahead to a successful journey on the next round!🙌🏾

The reason i have not recertified is becauae i moved and where i currently live i am the only person with sisterlocks which I am combining to traditional locs.. I agree with stepping away and stop paying so much money for recertification.Most of the people here have those big huge locs and they just want box braids, knotless and loc extensions.

We've chatted offline about this, but others may wonder this as well. I typically recommend a gentle clarifying shampoo brand new locs and those can often be diluted a bit. I'm on the hunt for reviews to share, so keep me posted as you try some and I will poll my clients as well and share out what they share.

You want to use someone else’s trademarked brand to do your own thing. Just do your own thing but don’t call it sisterlocs, call it microlocs. You’ll be removed from the sisterlocs list bc you’re not using the method. That’s not bullying or control. If you want to do your own thing, just do your own thing and don’t use the trademark or violate someone else’s intellectual property, give the same respect you’d want. Simple. Peace.

What's the "dap tool" I've never used sisterlock products other than the clip tool which has gotten expensive lately so tell me about this dap tool ?

However, I clearly understand what the sisterlock creator is doing and I don't give her wrong because the fact is that she was the creator of this hairstyle. If this is a way to protect the brand then go ahead.

It’s better to evolve rather than try to control the masses that paid for the training. Just because they provided the training doesn’t mean they have the right to control how people run their business. They rather control than grow and that will be their downfall
