In the depths of Siberia, amongst the ruins of a former Soviet military base lives a hidden community. Although hundreds of kilometres from civilization, people are volunteering to come and live here.
Eniseisk 15 was once a secret radar site that detected missiles launched from space but was dismantled after an arms agreement with America. Now it is being used to house disabled people along with elderly people who volunteer to receive free housing here from the state. Conditions are difficult though, with no employment opportunities for the young and no medical care for the elderly. Yet compared to surrounding villages "the housing here is comfortable. You don't have to chop wood, you don't need to heat the stove and the toilet is inside the flat," explains the local councillor. Maybe that explains the increase of people wanting to move to this desolate, remote village in Siberia.

If people don't have purpose in their life, they resort to drugs and alcohol to fill the void. In Soviet Russia the only purpose is to forget the times you were tortured or coerced into telling the security forces on family thought crimes.

I really liked my trip to Moscow Russia. But when I talked to a man he told me that I haven't seen Russia, he said Russia is very poor, I started to notice that when I got outside the city, and as this video also shows. I hope they can fix their problems.

It's sad they were on the right track after the far of the Soviet Union. They were developing a relationship with the West and the U.S. learning about business and Capitalism and starting to build a new economy that was on the path to wealth and long term prosperity and then they voted in Putin and the Communists again and now they are just as bad off as ever. I feel bad for the Russian people, they are fairly smart, creative and hard working people but they continue to vote in bad people and bad government systems and ideas that hold them down and keep them poor. The need a Capitalistic revolution not a Communist revolution.

Putin a conservative populist(similar to trump in some ways...)he is not a communist... He established a 13% flat tax(one of the lowest tax rates in the world! He has attempted to abolish parts of the health care system(before putin all hospital got state funding and many health providers had abused this system) now only a small precent get state funding and only for importent proffessions and most health care providers have been privatized! Putin has been very good to russia! This video is just a propoganda peice...i can show you many videos of detroit...if you want...

***** Putin is a leftists, an former KGB agent who would love to rebuild the Soviet Empire. Russia has severe poverty throughout it. It's economy is crippled and its GDP is a joke. Sure the U.S. does have some cities that are wastelands.....thanks to leftist politicians who love a big government with lots of control over the people, just like Putin does.

Russia is one of the poorest countries in the world, yet possesses an immearurable amount of natural wealth in oil, natural gas, timber, furs, diamonds, gold, rare and precious metals, the list is endless. Why? Because the handfull of billionaires who rule Russia, Putin's cronies and fellow thugs, sell Russia's wealth of raw materials and keep the proceeds in their own bank accounts. Nothing is spent on new heating plants, pensions for the old and infirm, housing, roads, bridges, etc. Russia remains a backward and under-developed country because of the criminal greed of its' ruling elite, with Putin at the top. He's the 'Thief-In-Chief".

The woman at 5:10 says that this is a normal place for a pensioner to live! If that’s normal what would be bad? wow the Russian government really doesn’t give a shit about its people. It’s sad.

little pecker in poorer countries there is community and everyone watches out for each other unlike the man who was on a drinking session with the locals who left him to nearly die outside and he was lucky enough to lose he's feet to alcoholism I don't think in 3rd world countries alcoholism or drugs is a problem it is mostly food and bills which is why the communities help each other everyone is equal when it comes to being poor but there is no equality in drugs or alcohol from those suffering

Cronic unemployment? Why do we rely on employment to keep ourselves busy? Can we not live without jobs and simply grow gardens, barter and survive? Money is not the only way to survive, our ancestors proved that. The young are seduced by the city life and I can see why, but if we told them the truth they may decide to return and live the good life? Talk to the children and tell them they won't be able to get ahead, very few can, it's by design.

When I lost my job in 1976 after I did the bi-centennial celebration of the four museum shops for Smithsonian, I lived in a freezing winter alone in upstate New York, building my Chinese restaurant in no man's land, which was a big mistake that my wife divorced me after that.. I never wanted to live in the cold with no heating system again. When I went to the diner a mile away where was heated warmly, I said to myself, " This is civilization ! " I got panic when I see all the snow here in the video again ! George Wu, AIA, ARCHITECT,NCARB 2017-8-25

Yumeng Yan Its your job to learn, dear ... not to judge. Sometimes it's very hard to learn not to judge. We all have the same struggle. Your bright side is that you're questioning yourself. We don't know the least of what brought any of these people to where they are. Would we judge that same person if they were climbing the steps of their mansion after parking their Mercedes? Hard questions. Curiosity didn't kill the cat, superficiality killed the cat. God bless you, dear. 😎
