I think the rarity and is also correlation because the the devs will want to make legendaries fun so more people pay for them hence why so many legendaries have cool and unique mechanics and a very fast movement speed. I'm sure there is both correlation and causation but i think this is worth mentioning.
Was thinking the same thing, all of the top 5 are legendaries. I think it may also because users find them more rare, and require a grind to get so then they play it much more then easier to get brawlers like Rosa who is bottem 5.
Legendaries used to be Brawlers with extremely unique mechanics until chromatic came and now we have things like Lou or R-T being not legendary. This may have also affected how Brawl Stars eventually started to look at non-chromatics like Chuck and his weirdly unique mechanics.

And you may think, “well Leon and crow are legendarys, but they have high use rates.” But that’s because they are 2 of the 3 first options as legendarys on the star road. Leon and crow are definitely the 2 most common first legendarys in the community. And cordelius is basically at the end of the star road. So if you haven’t been playing the game for a loooong time, then there’s a good chance you won’t have him.
@@mscd3768 Thing is, if you were around during boxes, you were probably around for chroma credits too. That made Cordelius pretty accessible, until they decided to remove chromatic rarity, turning him into a legendary brawler.
@@kokimotosan nah but the thing is when he was chromatic, there rlly wasnt that big of a time period where he was available. even though he wasnt the most recent chromatic, be was still decently recent. Plus, if i remember correctly chromatic credits couldnt buy the current chromatic brawler, and the previous chromatic brawler would be 3x more expensive.

I think if the assassin like edgar are popular that's because of the young player base, because bro i swear playing him is a torture, always dying, dont have the range etc..
It'd make sense why players would pick certain classes over the others; Controllers have a very passive style of gameplay making their gameplay slow because you're not supposed to rush with them. However, Assassins have a very active and somewhat passive playstyle making them appealing to basically everyone, also most assassins are capable of rushes that can result in team wipes or turning a losing game into a winning one. Damage Dealers also are very active and can cause team wipes or game changing plays making them shiny and appealing unlike supports and controllers whose gameplays are passive and slower.

imo the brawlers that are the most liked are not bad in the meta/f tier and have unique mechanics and are fun to play and more on the less skilled side
i think in the skin section it phases down at 10+ skins cuz some brawlers have duplicate skins like the football ones that are barely different so they shouldnt count as 6 seperate skins but rather 1 but my take on this video is that the favorite brawlers in general are brawlers that are capable of hard carrying a team without needing a massive skill cap
i tried to address the duplicate skins issue, by grouping skin variations together & counting them as 1 skin, i should've done that for the football ones too
I feel like a lot of the popular brawlers have skills that are fun, and easy to get "good" at. Compare a brawler like edgar to a brawler like piper. Now I would argue that it takes just as long to "master" edgar as it does a brawler like piper, but you can get 90 percent of the way to mastering edgar pretty fast, and even after playing him for a small while, you can get like 60 percent of the way there. But getting good with piper is more steady, so it takes a while to get good with her, which is why she is less popular than edgar

Surge is NOT played like an assassin, he just happens to have an ability that allows him to jump over walls so by that logic El Primo is an assassin Cordelius is literally classed as an assassin
@zaneplayz3719 Surge has a very fast movement speed, middling to low hp and high damage output as he levels. He is very assassin-ish to me. I didn't notice Cord was an assassin and typed it in response to the video, which hadn't mentioned him as an assassin alongside Leon and Crow when I typed this. And yes I do consider Primo to play similarly to an Assassin when he has his super. What else are you doing the jump for aside from mobility/damage?
@BunnyUmi Being an assassin doesn't partly come down to health, just look at Melodie. And the point of an assassin is to quickly close the distance with your enemy, and Surge cannot quickly close the distance as his super range is very short. All he has to close the distance is a very fast movement speed which is not nearly enough. Also, movement speed isn't the deciding factor for an assassin, considering Stu has a normal movement speed but quickly obtainable dashes Btw in my opinion I agree with El Primo technically being assasin-ish with his super. Better than Sam is
@zaneplayz3719 while he can't traditionally close the distance, his shots are long ranged, so he doesn't have to get close like that. His jump is to get over walls or to avoid and return damage at close ranges, making it mobility/damage. Health/movement speed aren't deciding factors, but it's typical to have lower hp and higher speed for the assassin class. Melodie has more average hp than a typical assassin because her notes orbit, meaning she has to stay there for a second more to get her close range damage in. And Stu is Stu, I have no clue why you'd want to get close with him. At least with Surge, you want to get in to get damage with his super and to ensure shots land. He has the shield gadget to make that easier, whereas Stu does not.
An assassin is a brawler whose job is to kill and be aggressive to the enemy team and they can easily pinch the enemy team Cordelius has good damage and abilities that makes him an assassin and a super that is literally designed to kill an enemy So cord is an assassin And surge has good damage and super that can easily kill enemies but he is a damage dealer At first stage you need to play him aggressively to get his super like an assassin At second stage you still play aggressively and at stage 3 to 4 is the stage that you need to play passively cuz dying will remove his upgrades and that can change the match around And without his upgrades he can easily be defeated So surge is a damage dealer/assassin-ish, but he is not designed to be an assassin
Their mechanics and roles and how fun and easy they're to play a brawler like Janet who's only used in bushy maps will definitely be less popular than something like piper who's easier and has far more outplay potential

In order for a brawler to be fun or popular, they have to have the highest highs, hence why, Meg, ruffs, Pam, etc are not “fun”, they are too well rounded, not having a low low, but also not a high high. I also think brawler personalities matter a bit here, no one wants to play a boring mom that shoots bolts, they rather play a cool robot that uses slangs in his voicelines

And what about the charisma? I feel every popular brawler has some kind of appeal, some kind of coolness (Crow, Leon, Mortis, Colt). They have funny voicelines, well-thought personalities. And then you have Pam, Lola and Colonel Ruffs.
Honestly, it's the character's gameplay, because rarity basically doesn't change anything about the characters' gameplay. It's not even a question of whether the character is broken or strong, it's more about how fun and simple the character's gameplay is, An example is Mortis, who is a very weak brawler, but every Futbrawl game you play has one. And I would say that's just because it's really fun to do some cool moves with the character, and it's not so difficult to play with him.
I'd say that ease of use greatly affects a brawlers play rate. Cordelius is a high skill cap brawler, his attack has a short range and slow speed that takes some getting used to. He's not some brainless brawler where you could just charge in and spam auto aim, and get results, like most popular brawlers. I think certain brawlers are more popular than others because they can make more pop off plays. The easier the brawler is to use, the more game changing exciting plays can be made. Which feeds into the players adrenaline and dopamine. It's also why people think controllers and support are so boring to play, because it's harder to make exciting plays with them. It will also explain why Dynamike and Colt are so popular despite not being assassins, because they can shred teams pretty easily. I got crow because i thought his super/hypercharge was insanely good, and i thought leon was trash because his super was bad, little did i know crow is worse than leon
if a brawler is generic or has an ability other brawlers have they’ll automatically be less popular. Typically it’s just brawlers that are easier to play or have broken abilities that are more popular since it appeals to more of the player base

i think the reasons u gave are valid, but it goes back to what i said. anyone can give reasons for why a specific brawler is placed so high or low, the goal is to find a trend that can apply to most brawlers
This is all the exact opposite of Sprout. He has low use rates, hard to play, less the 5 skins, mythic, normal movement. But he finally got a skin this update. So it made all 10 Sprout mains happy.
For me, I became a fan of Surge when his mastery title came out. It fit me so well at that time that I had to grind it. And the more I played him, the more I started to like him. And when he then also became my 2nd r25 and my first r26, I knew Surge would be my fav brawler for enternity
