who the hell can afford to live in New York? Save as much as you can and hopefully find a job in another state and relocate there before it swallows you up. If the New York's population went away it would be a wake up call to business and the state officials to put regulations on factors that contribute to ever increasing out of reach living costs.

Cuomo & DeBlasio should probably do what Salt Lake City did and just house the homeless. It ended up being cheaper for SLC and it's more humane.
@dt-zb4df
@dt-zb4df 3 года назад
@Sim Lash-I had not heard that about SLC. The homeless were housed temporarily in the Botels (cheap tourists hotels around Times Sq.) during Covid but now that tourists are returning, the homeless had to get out. The shelters are more dangerous than the streets and many closed. I used to work a soup kitchen here and many preferred the street.

When rent is $2,000 to $6,000 a month it's just too high for most jobs. I bought a house with a yard, garage and mature trees for $320 per month. My god how much would you have to make to live in NYC? There is the problem.
@a13xw71

Nancy Desch this is very old, but I'll just answer, am assuming you never lived in NYC, keep that in mind. the 2k to 6k a month is mostly accurate for most of Manhattan. in outer boroughs, that would be less. 1k to 2k. depending on the area. NYC has housing lottery which give "affordable" housing but it mainly base on luck. Many workers i know live outside the city. Think NJ, upstate NY, and Staten Island. They only enter Manhattan for work.
@angelacisneros4608
@angelacisneros4608 5 лет назад
And the rent keeps on rising all around NYC. Its 2018 and Brooklyn is the new Manhattan, Queens is crazy expensive. Tons of people with degrees living pay check to paycheck..or literally living a pay check away from being homeless. All those affordable housing is bullshit, lots are about the same price as a regular appt. 1 bedroom in my gentrified neighborhood is 1800

American dream, no honey unless you have wealthy backers or invent something just working hard and doing the right things no longer count for diddly. ***** seems like the homeless people in your neck of the woods are downright friendly. All the homeless people that i have seen have a haggard look, clothes always have holes in them, dangerous and they always speak with slang, never coherently like this because the streets have broken them both physically and mentally. You can't even approach them to give them food when they are lying down because you never know if you are going to wake them up accidentally and they are gonna stab you, they always have something sharp with them. I've seen hobos just lying on the sidewalk in the winter and I'm scared to check if they are dead or not because I know most of them are insane and if they are not dead I know they are gonna attack me These hobos that they interviewed probably never been out more than a year because by the time a year rolls around you're either dead or broken

The mayor here doesn’t care about these people and neither does the governor. They only care about people who can vote and better yet vote for them. Nyc likes to give off he impression that it’s all inclusive and accepting but when it comes to taking care of the homeless the system fails. But, the people here keep voting these types into office so nothing will change.

God wants us to help the poor and homeless both individually and as a society. In the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead candidates for paradise affitmed "I have not failed to share my meal with a hungry man" and also " I have caused no man to cry" Pretty advamced moral code huh! This was before Hebrews or Christians or Islamics were even heard of! The city should renovate some old buildings into little condos that the homeless can get into and clean up in a cozy safe little place and then get a little job and start buying their condo on principal only terms so they can have real ownershiip. And the developer of the condos should reserve parts of the development for high priced luxury units to make a good profit on.This way the homeless can buy and the well off can buy and the developer can make money....everybody makes money and has ownership...and the city gets cleaned up and employers can find a cheap low end labor supply that can do factory type work cheaply and can afford to live on the low wages....everybody can be happy. A little zoning and venture capital is required but the city too will benefit from better streets and lower welfare costs. Also the bottom floor can house some small business areas for these people to go into business and hire others as some of the homeless have business skills. EVERYBODY WINS!

Are you kidding me? Speak to any New Yorkers. The city is too expensive and most of these people have also said that they tried to adapt to shelters, but could not. Too much violence and abuse. I live right in front of a shelter in Manhattan. You have no idea how tough those places are, especially for women... Since I have been in the city, there has not been a single night without ambulances and police officers coming at nights. Nobody deserves to end up in the streets. Let me tell you, as an European, that New York city is a shocking place and I am tired of seeing people defecating or urinating in the middle of the streets, women bleeding from their periods without having any pads, men cutting their hands with cans while trying to get something to drink in trash bins in summertime... That is not acceptable. I do not know if Mayor De Blasio is doing his very best. I just know that people do not like him at all. I wonder, as an Italian woman as his maternal grandmother, has he forgotten the humiliation Italians had to go through while emigrating to what he now calls "his country"? There is no difference between immigrants from the '20 and any American homeless who sleeps in freezing New York city. I pray for them all.

Most homeless people are born in USA. The drugs they shoot up use up their fibances. The American drug culture is killing mostly whites and impoverishing them because of freedom they take for granted and use drugs and forget they have responsibility. Grandparents are raising their grandchildren because parents are no longer able to do their duty. Don't blame immigrants for everything although it's a popular thing to do now but your statement is false.
