I miss these episodes that were more philosophical / introspective. Nowadays they do so much stuff that is basically just eating the most bizarre thing they can find online. That stuff is fun too! Just wish they’d sprinkle in a bit more stuff like this more often. Hope someone from GMM is reading this!

To go along with the whole incongruity thing, there are jokes called anti-jokes that have a "normal" joke setup and then a logical and reasonable, or just extra morbid, punch line. Here are a few: What did Batman say to Robin before he got in the Batmobile? Robin, get in the Batmobile. What's worse than finding a worm in your apple? The Holocaust. Why did little timmy drop his ice cream? He got hit by a bus.

Grass Cannibals thats the point, it's a set up for a joke and then the punchline is entirely reasonable, or completely ridiculous. another example is: What did grandpa say before he kicked the bucket? "hey, how far do you think i can kick this bucket?"

pluto may be tiny, but it is it's own celestial body and does not orbit anything, so it should be considered a planet

Thomas Moberly OK, I checked my facts and, indeed, Pluto is not a dwarf star. However, there is one problem: when stars die, they normally don't become reborn; it would be against the law of thermodynamics.

none of these explain WHY things are funny. They're just causes. A reason would be something like: "we find in-congruent things funny because as social creatures people that reacted positively to in-congruent stimuli were murdered less often so we evolved the ability to release endorphins when exposed to this stimuli as well as laughter to show others that we are pleased with what just happened" Now to be clear, I just pulled that theory out of my ass. I'm not saying that is why we laugh but it is simply an example of a correct example.

It's all about the feelings man. The reason we laugh is because we experience feelings that make us laugh. For example if you take a certain kind of Mushrooms, you could laugh for hours at practically nothing, because of over stimulation of feelings that make us laugh. How we explain the logic as to how those feelings arrived is what you guys are (I THINK) essentially trying to explain in this video. So, when Rhet turned into a Zebra, it's not just that it was unexpected, but the fact that it's so silly and we weren't prepared for the silliness, which for some people leads them to become overwhelmed by "laugh" feelings. I could be wrong.

I think comedy is about empathy. When you laugh about something someone says or something that happens I'm guessing its because you can relate personally to what is being said or what is happening and it resonates in a way that makes you laugh.

When they talk about the unexpected I think it's more in ways of making your mind creating a picture of something (a scenario or whatever) and then change it's course radically so the entire picture changes. This doesn't necessairly make it funny however but if you add another, point (or dimension if you will), in form of, for example, a silly action, it will be funny. But if you would skip the first part and just go with the silly stuff, it doesn't really need to be funny either. So I guess, what I'm saying is that "this kind of funny" needs to have at least two fundamental points. But I'm highly intoxicated so I probably don't know what I'm talking about!

pretty sure everyone wants to be able to enjoy every moment. it's almost like you haven't had any really hard times, because if you had, you'd know that sad people have A LOT of reason to cry and not laugh. plus most jokes are white supremacist, male supremacist, etc.

Dong Destroyer Well, you might be right about people wanting to enjoy every moment, but there are different kinds of enjoyment. I took Haneen's comment as referring to those times when you're upset about something but also feel righteous or vindicated by being upset. As for most jokes being supremacist in some fashion, I've actually noticed that trend too. It seems like most comedy is, at its most foundational level, about the audience telling itself, through the proxy of the comedian, that they are either better or worse than other people. The difference between "low" and "high" comedy often seems to be that while "low" comedians present themselves as the object of ridicule, "high" comedians point at others.
