When we speak of Proko, Chris Legaspi, Marco Bucci, or even Marc Brunet (Cubebrush), I'd say it is good. Some others are on the mid level, some on the low end, and the rest, mostly the drama channels, they are trash.

It used to be so informative and full of professionals who loved the craft. Now it is almost always flashy clickbait and bad advice. It's sad to see. There are shining stars in the mess of clout goblins, so I have hope.
bro finally someone had the balls to speak the truth, there are alot of youtubers that are so called art-youtubers that i have stopped following just cause they are no longer making videos but making gossip videos, I came here to learn art and i don't have time to waste. I consider myself a semi pro and still learn, if there was a way to share my works you would understand, I stopped following these youtubers casue most of their advice are not solid advice but i did do some course from pros online to see through the vague bullshit most of these guys are selling, so i look for videos from other countires or artists based in other countries cause if the artist is speaking english most likely they are selling crap or just drama based
I recommend art prof to everyone! They are a channel run by former RISD professor. They give free and accessible & informed information. I have learned so much valuable stuff from their channel.
Yeah, I feel sometimes art tips is just doesn't work, these are: 1. Feels fake; 2. They talk rubbish; 3. Video with clickbate titles. With all art tips, I mange to follow some real art advice lets say realistic/brutal advice from my subscribed Art Channel.
@@GeminEyeArt yeah, I thinks it's brutally useful the way you put it. I lost a lot of time trying to improve with some 3 minutes tutorial. It never worked very well. I started to see some change only after studying from books. As you say, everyone can create content, but few are really useful to learn.
I technically work as an illustrator, but still consider myself a beginner in some regards haha. I mostly just upload slop people like and they pay me on patreon for it, and sometimes speedpaints on my youtube. But yeah art on youtube is hard, the harderst part is finding out what i dont know and then going hard at it. I just realized how important form is. i always knew about it as a fundamental i kinda understood, but not that well. Its so much easier to draw hands, now that i learnt to study the objects forms, instead of the flat shapes i see. i guess i took "Draw what you see" too literally :/ Its really hard to find people to point one in the right directions, especially at my awkward middlestage level
I feel you. “Draw what you see” can be a bit vague, because you actually have to learn HOW to see. By that I mean how to see forms, how to see shapes, how to see values, etc.
There is so much more that can be said on this topic . About art youtube and the art community in general. I even went to a university that rewarded its students solely on participation. Those without skill were never told how to get better and those better by comparison were left to their own devices. I turned to youtube to get the education my school lacked. And every year I discovered how bad at art I actually was, what little I understood. But in recent years its contents have not provided. Those with good content have stopped posting because they've said all they have to say, and those who keep posting pander to the emotions and desires of their audience to obtain views with content that has no substance. They flaunt their displays and sell the dream of art as a career without helping their viewers really grow. And at the same time there are tons of professional artist with good content hidden in the background simply because their thumbnails don't pop enough. But I'm just ranting now, I understand its not all bad. Just sucks knowing that people are being blinded by their own dreams by the people who say the want to help.
You make a lot of valid points my friend and you're right that so much more can be said about this stuff. Would need a much longer video, probably more appropriate for a livestream discussion in the future. I appreciate your rant and I bet others can relate 💯
Thank you for saying what no one is addressing about the art community! I've noticed there's a huge disconnect between those who strive for traditional skill mastery vs those who create art by their own personal preferences. Neither is wrong or bad because anyone can be an artist and create beautiful work. But at the end of the day improving your abilities will always come best from someone who is a professional in any industry.
As a very, very baby youtuber, I half agree with you. Of course, we have all the masters on YT for art but sometimes I do like having people that are both interesting, entertaining and might bring value in a way that I enjoy. For example, I watch a lot of art streamers on Twitch not because they are experts but because their personality and their art style is fun to watch in real time: You do get something out of watching speedpaints of someone you enjoy. I tried to offer tutorials but there are so many people that do them I started covering AI tomfoolery, ai bros in general, offering tips for the emotional part of being an artist, sometimes I have some hacks of my own or my own progress. I'm just an int artist, I'm not pro like you or any of these people but I don't think I should not create because I'm not a pro, sometimes just following someone's journey or their personality is enough. I clicked on your video, for example, hoping I could improve my channel content and get tips to not be 'trash' but what I do doesn't pertain to me as a creator. Still, I subbed because I hope I can get good at more art.
Indeed, it ultimately comes down to what you want as an individual. Some artists are just hobbyists, and some have career aspirations. The unfortunate part is when artists have career aspirations but maintain the habits of a hobbyist, and still expect career results or skill levels. The main point is that our behaviors need to line up with our expectations, and that sometimes the content that gets thrown our way isn't conducive to our goals and can cause us to get derailed. I appreciate you sharing your mindset 💯
The Title says Art RU-vid Is trash, what you say, which is more like the truth, is that Art RU-vid "CAN" be trash. It's beginning to look like some RU-vidrs can't promote their own stuff without trashing someone else's stuff. That behavior I think is kinda trashy.
Indeed. It's like I said, calling out anyone specifically is a bit silly, but such things are inevitable with oversaturation in an attention economy. Personally I like to believe in professional courtesy whenever possible.
I am total beginner and I wanted to learn about drawing faces etc, so much enough and literally they just skip past important information and right now I am struggling how to have a good jawline for a character :/ and about to give up, even took udemy courses, same thing, which makes me think Art is just a talent not a skill.
Art is a mixture of both talent and learned skill. Anyone pursuing art has to learn the skills and will improve with the right information and instruction, and some people have an edge due to natural talent so they learn more quickly and perhaps have higher potential. EVERYONE can improve, it's just a matter of how quickly... but it sounds like you're getting some bad instruction. My upcoming videos should help you figure out how to study your weaknesses and make improvements. Don't give up too easily ;)
I don't speak your language so can't say one way or the other. When it comes to learning styles like anime/manga I'd generally advise someone to learn the fundamentals of realism first. At that point it becomes MUCH easier to adapt to a variety of styles through shape design principles. Learning just a particular style like anime/manga tends to make people extremely limited in their ability overall. But if someone already knows the fundamentals, then learning the particular styles can be very useful at that point.

I think "art is not a competition" advice come from an area where people want to do it for fun and not worry about mental health. I mean, yeah, i know we live in a capitalist society, but we also have remember another side of the is the enjoyment of said society. But i do get how distractions are detrimental, people just have to train themselves to... find that balance, between professionalism, and fun
