This video has taken me longer than I would like to admit but it's finally out! Even though it was quite frustrating to fight my own thoughts of not feeling like good enough, I'm very proud of the end result. I hope you enjoy it! The behind the scenes of this same video will be available on patreon by next week. This monthly payment will go towards helping Beirut and the explosion victims. I hope you've enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
What a wonderful film! I watched it as an aspiring film maker myself first, then as a person who suffers from the perceived 'perfectionist' syndrome. Your words of 'Get something done' really resonate with me! And by the way, I think your films are excellent!
that's a big problem of myself as well.. Perfectionism can really hold you back so much when you try to be productive/create stuff, it's my biggest enemy. Very nice video btw, I'm a big fan of your work :)
Yeah! It sucks because you want to do things, but then you procrastinate because you're afraid of failing and then you get super frustrated because you're not being productive. It becomes an endless loop of procrastination and frustration. That's why I think it's so important for us to be aware of it and normalize failure as a tool for growth and development. Thank you very much cedrick :) I'll keep on doing my best
MAN I love this channel. You may have seen a lot of videos out there by folks with more expertise, but audience don't want a lecture about this stuff; they want to know that other creative people also deal with it, and how they manage to stay creative despite that.
Thank you so much Coby! That's my plan. To make documentaries and some other videos where I share some reflections. Can't wait to start making documentaries again. Had already some great stories to share. It's going to be tough with all of this, but slowly will get there :)
Dismissing, my cool accent?? Thank you so much! You're the first person telling me they like my accent :) not having english as the main language is a struggle, specially when speaking to a camera, but I'm glad to know that it's not a drawback on this channel.
Chiming in to say your accent makes your sentences more memorable for me since I don't tune out as easily. I hope you know what I mean - I'm not a native speaker either. I need to listen a bit more attentively.
Thank you for sharing your point of view on perfectionist. Honestly I am personally facing this problem right now but your thoughts helped me to take the courage to make mistakes and learn from it.
Yeah, perfectionism is very often overlooked, but I truly believe it can be quite dangerous for us. The most fundamental catalyst for personal growth is to fail and learn from it. If we want to become a better person and have a fulfilling life it's essential that we start seeing failure as something normal and embrace it :) I don't know exactly what you're going through, but don't let the fear of failing stop you. It's much better trying and fail rather than regretting for not trying at all
@@epochstories thank you for responding my comment. You gave me advice like my big brother would do, I will follow your advice and refine myself. God bless you love from India ❤❤❤
Thank you very much. If I can give you a last piece of advice, don't take what I say as 100% right. I'm still learning myself and finding my way through life. I just like to share some of my reflections :) All the best!
Thank you, got my camera 10 months ago and I've been coming up with ideas and withdrawing constantly. And my camera has been sitting there, for 10 months. Thank you for this video. I need to be more flexible, I'm not perfect, no one is!
Hey man, seriously, this might be one of the most genuine youtube videos I've ever watched. I can tell you're speaking from the heart about something that effects you, hoping your viewers can benefit from it. I know I have.
Ah yes, the pain of being a perfectionist, I definitely know that struggle. I find that for work related stuff, I really agree that you have to remember that "done is better than perfect" and in a sense, it wouldn't really be perfection if you miss the deadline - turning in a "good enough" product at the perfect time, is often better - and in that sense, more perfect - than going over deadline and turning in a "perfect" product, when it's too late. For more hobby related stuff, I think you should let yourself be as perfectionistic as you want, as long as you still find the process fun. If your hobby starts feeling like work because of perfectionism, then you should probably default back to the "done is better than perfect" sentiment, so that you can move on to something that you enjoy again. Really nice video that made me think quite a bit about perfectionism and how to deal with it. Love seeing you try out different video ideas, because you always do it well - you can tell it's made by a bit of a perfectionist! ;)
I completely agree with your point of view. That's why I think we can't just say ''perfectionism is all bad''. Striving for perfection can be frustrating and stressful but it also gives us the opportunity to exceed our own abilities, sometimes. I just think that the key is in finding the balance and embracing the failure as fundamental element for our own growth. Thank you so much JitterEye :)
"If u try to live without failing, u re not living at all" that phrase got me. The (all mighty) algorithm just recommended me ur channel and Im super happy about it. I want to produce documentations about people just like u, but there is always so much doubt in my head. The strongest is almost a obsession for perfection. And if there's anything, even the smallest hurdle, wich could damage this perfect image in my mind, I quit or don't even get started. For me personally, the fear of failure is the biggest problem in perfection. But somehow I can relate to u. You give me the feeling that I can do it too! That I can create, I can try, I can fail but in the end I will succeed or at least get something positive out of it, to learn and grow from. I really enjoy ur documentaries! Thank u so much for the video and ur tips!
Thank you so much for sharing all of your marvellous documentaries. Its made my Christmas. Your work is so thoughtful and intimate. I've watched them all and loved every single one. But for you then to share so candidly all your learnings and tips (So clearly!) is just so generous of you. Thank you sincely. Daver.
I think about it like that: We aren't as "strict" with our friends than we are with ourselves. We cut them some slack; they don't need to be perfect, we still appreciate them. So I try to see myself in the same light as I would a friend.
I've struggled with being a perfectionist for a long ass time. It carries over into my music/audio production and video production. I'm happy with what I put out but it takes an incredibly long time to get to that point, and I tend to over do certain things which makes the process more laborious than enjoyable. Still trying to find that balance today.
Yeah. I completely understand that. It's really tough because it's not like we should just stop caring about things and not trying to improve. We should definitely aim for doing the best work we can and even exceed our own standards sometimes, but it's also important that we don't put so much pressure on ourselves that we just get stuck, anxious and frustrated. It's a hard balance to find
This was excellent! I really enjoyed your channel. Thank you for the humility of your journey. As someone who is about to embark in documentary film this is a great help to me. By the way I am 55 years old. “The expert at anything was once a beginner”
Very nice video man! 🤘🏼 definitely know what you mean. I was putting so much pressure on myself when I started my RU-vid channel (as I’m also a filmer and photographer) that each video had to be perfect. I ended up ditching so many videos because I was beating myself up about it. Now I’ve challenged myself to daily vlogs! Now I just turn camera on a FILM!
Good video. I need to share your tips with my girlfriend! Haven't checked in on your content for a while - I'm one of the people that came here because you were talked about in a larger RU-vidr's video (maybe Austin McConnell? i dont remember) - but I'm glad to see you're still making content and working hard to achieve great things. :) Keep it up, guy, I hope you get to 100k by the end of 2021! Only a matter of time before the algorithm picks you up..
Thank you very much Sato! Yes, it was Austin McConnel :) I'm glad to see that one year later, you managed to come back and still enjoy my content (even though is quite different now). I'll just keep on trying to do the best I can. Slowly but consistently and hopefully it will get there someday :)
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this issue. Very well done. By the way, your documentary's are very inspiring! You should have "Buy me a coup of coffee" that many yuotubers have. Regards from Peter in Sweden
Hey Peter! First of all, thank you so much for your kind words. I still have a lot to learn :) I don't have an account on buy me a coffee, but I do have an account on patreon where you can support this project and get access to some exclusive content. Here's the link in case you're interested: patreon.com/epochdm However, if you don't want to donate, the best way of supporting is to just share the work. It helps a lot :) Either way, thank you for being interested in helping Peter. It means a lot
I have an intellectual disability that makes me feel stupid and dumb. When I started out performing, I was not perfect at first, I did not became perfect. There is no such thing as perfect, only to get better. I have this idea during school, I have to make every schoolwork perfect just to pass, but that's not the case. Starting out feels weird but if you practice, it makes it feel perfect to you. I hope that makes sense
Hey! I'm good, thank you for asking. Covid and life didn't let me make new films for a while. But I'm working on it! A new video is coming very very soon :)
You are talking not about perfectionism. Criticize is opposite of perfection. And you have to see the Reality to understand it. The Result is Perfection and the correct way is perfecting. Best Regards from a Perfektionist. Peace
This video deserves a lot more views! Too many of us struggle with perfectionism, and you break down the challenge and offer solutions in a simple and very relatable way in a beautifully produced video. Love your work!
