Absolutely this bridge at the end of the video is one of the most beautiful, energetic and somehow stressing parts of her songs. This is the best way to represent the raising thoughts in your mind. It makes you feel like you want to hear this bridge all the time. One of the best videos for music theorie. Very educational. I will use this in my music production. Bravo!!!👏👏👏
What a wonderful review! and on the 1 yr anniversary of HTE and Finneas's B.D. (25!); you make me wish I played an instrument and performed! You were crystal clear, concise and eminently respectful of Billie and Finneas and your listeners. Now I will listen to a couple other reactions you've done. I was wondering what the 93 Acres could signify, but that is probably a mystery best kept to itself!
Thank you Mitch!! HTE was special, might still have to analyse that album like I did this single 😄 Really appreciate the kind words. The 93 Acres is the farm my grandmother used to have! I started learning to record and produce music while I was hanging out with her. Great times 💜
As a piano player I just had 1 year of experience and I had to stop playing because of my collage timings and studies I had no time to rehears it anymore but even after a year I understand the work and as a normal person who understand's nothing but just vibes with the songs you made it so easier to really understand what the music is and how it is made and all the proccess in between. Great work Acres Hats off to you man!! I just became your biggest fan ever
Really appreciate your continued support Harshil, delighted to be able to help 🙏 Keep putting in the work & enjoying it, we can all keep improving together!!
Never understood the tendency to cut breaths unnecessarily in production. We are humans, we breathe. Singers need to breathe too, you can relate to it.
I'm 46 and I feel so lucky live in this millenia, despite enjoying many kind of music as far as I remember from 60's to 2000's and this new millenium, I'm enjoying the artwork, talented, hard working, determine, passions of this sibling duo. Thanks to their solid relationship, humbleness and sensitivity that create such a beautiful music yet awareness of current issues. They're undefeated!! I love you guys (B&F) Billie&Fin Best Forever. Greeting from Indonesia
Frankly, I don’t think Billie’s lyrical work recently compares to those of her debut album(WWFAWDWG) and Don’t smile at me. Her lyrics has shifted from the metaphorical or poetic verses to more descriptive or narrative song lines. However, they are all meaningful but I would have preferred poetic lyricism over the other.
finneas dominated the writing of her previous albums, in her recent album she’s been taking more control over the writing so thats why the songs arent as “poetic” and “metaphoric” as she’s more straightforward and storytelling
@@mya.x._ That’s what I thought. But surprisingly, If you look at Finneas’s songwriting. Its not as poetic/metaphorical as that of her sister’s. And if you watched ‘Billie Eilish: The World's a Little Blurry’, there are scenes that shows Billie has much more control on the writing than you think. And its not like Happier than Ever is not poetic, songs like Goldwing, and Your Power have very good lyrics(poetic). But the rest of the album is much more straightforward and their brilliance is showed in the plot and meaning.
@@Zipfian32 wow so cool to see someone with my perspective :) This video was a bit underwhelming because I am not sure if these two songs are genius, they are super straightforward and compared to some of Billie's other materials, totally wear their inspiration on their sleeves. I think that the closest thing to "genius" Billie has done was her debut. But again, the word genius gets thrown around all the time.
@@user-rv7ge1tc4l I also think her best work is her debut, but the song ‘My Future’ has some good lyrics, and has me thinking she has the capacity to write better. Also, this RU-vidr Mintrom Movies made me see that, in this album(HTE), she wanted the listener to feel the emotions, so she didn’t tuck the meaning behind any metaphors and used generic expressions. That’s why the second part of the Happier than Ever has some of the rawest lyrics. And I think it’s actually a good strategy as a musician, cause she brought in a different kind of audience. Also, Lorde’s new album ‘Solar Power’, shares some similar themes - finding new happiness and the music career affecting her. But Lorde put the meaning behind ‘the sun being her source of happiness and how summer has come;she is happier.(great songwriting btw) And that did not resonate with a lot of people hence it kinda flopped.
@@Zipfian32 I’m a huge fan of lorde, in fact I actually went to her tour a few months ago. But tbh I was not the biggest fan of solar power, I feel like it is not as interesting sonically. Melodrama is one of my all time favorites though
Tho what i love the most about this ep is how its entirely accoustic. The instrumental, the vocals and the beautiful harmonies she executes all the time. Im not a fan of when she does more popy songs like therefore i am ig but the more experimental accoustic shit like this ep and the song everything i wanted.. bro those are tooo good
Excellent Video! I think too often we listen, but we don't hear. Following your insight made me hear the song. To be honest, I didn't know much about Billie Eilish. It was only just over a year ago when I had to start using Logic. The first tutorial I used was based on a track by Billie Eilish that came with logic. They are an amzingly talented duo! I hope to do more fundraising for Alziemers next year by writing some original songs. Your videos are already helping! Keep up the great work!
If you're into music production, and you've worked on separating out what you're hearing on the sound stage, it becomes easy to break down any other production you might hear. There's only so much you can do with stereo separation, panning, reverb, and eq'ing (to help establish placement of a sound on the sound stage). Sure, we use plenty of other effects in audio production, but these 4 are the core for all sound production. once you master those, hearing everything else falls into place. It's amazing how many of what we think is a single instrument is actually a combination of sounds spread out at different degrees in the stereo spread. And then, there's the part of tuning the EQ / reverb to allow more of the key of the song to come through the mix, but that gets into physics.
I read some articles in which they wrote about a study in lyrics and Billie Eilish is the modern artist in this century with the richest new vocabularies in her lyrics, and she is the 4th female artist in history, 5th overall, after Björk, Jim Morrison Etc … I don’t know if this is important! But I mean, she is the only one in pop music at that success always on top in the last years experimenting more with music, and I also read so many lyrics new from her, lines i've never read before, and i'm old and music lover i look a lot at lyrics because i think they're the most important thing in a song, and i always find inspiration in new reflections on my life even if I’m older than her 😂
@@armywithluv55 I studied it when I was a kid! You pick a lot up when learning how to play new pieces as well. Also just watching a lot of RU-vid videos 😄 Still lots more to learn Luigi!!
I am planning on buying that same midi keyboard you have. Alesis VI49, correct? (instead I'm getting the VI61) how is it working for you? do you like it? thanks!
@@93Acres ok good to hear…i have an alesis drum set, which is good for the price as well. coincidence i came across this keyboard from them and deciding to take my chances
not gonna lie, I am actually not a fan of when artists mention real-time events in songs, it makes it feel temporary and cheap, I do not find it genius, in fact, it is the easiest thing to do when writing a song. Billie has some masterpieces under her belt, but tbh these two songs are good, but nothing mind-blowing. They are super straightforward, and the part that truly stands out is the bridge of the 30th. The analysis is cool, but the word genius gets thrown around too lightly.
Thanks for sharing your perspective J. It’s fascinating how different genres approach Songwriting so differently. For example where I come from in Ireland, a lot of the most well known & famous folk songs are about real life places, stories & events. Some contemporary artists use this narrative technique while others are more abstract in their approach. I love how there is something for all tastes.
@@93Acres I don’t think that it is the same as name dropping two trending topics in the lyrics. Those songs probably focus on those stories/places. But the way Billie used those events in the lyrics of TV made it sound temporary and kinda took me out of it. Obviously it’s subjective. My comment was not about writing songs about specific events/places, it was specifically about name dropping trending topics as part of the lyrics
While I do agree that these 2 tracks are good, only breaking down 1 bar from both songs and saying that leaving in imperfections from a crowd, which literally can't be edited out, should not be enough to give this the high praise of "genius." I get what u were trying to do but the execution is not there
Hi Zephaniah! I find your comment really interesting because throughout the video I broke down a lot more than just two bars. As for the crowd noise it sounds like the microphone was set up in the crowd in order to capture this sound. They could have recorded in studio or at another venue where the audience weren’t as engaged, and as mentioned in the video this was only one element of the single that I found noteworthy. At the end of the day perceived genius is an opinion, and this video is based on my opinion.
Hey, man, what is it called? Like I wrote a song using D-Asus4-Bm7-G, every chord except is in the key of G, but Asus4 is not, so what does it called? Like what's term when we use a chord outside a key?
Johnny is Correct! On some occasions there are ‘borrowed chords’ from the relative minor scale, such as the Minor 4th is a borrowed chord as the Eb occurs in the harmonic minor. Might cover this in an upcoming video hopefully 🙌
@@93Acres oh, I see thanks for the info man :) I've been watching a lot of Beatles analysis videos and John Lennon's bizzare use of time signatures and key changes, but still have a long way to go, like "Something" by the Beatles, has an A minor chord in the verses but transitions to A major in the middle eight.
okay okay listen, I get what she was going for but for me, lyrics are to on the nose. would have preferred she had painted a picture of it with lyrics and didn't just point out the topic with a big red clickbait arrow.
1:24 ... this is the most elaborate Rick-rolling I've ever been duped by.. you got me Rick Astley! Also.. she isn't the genius.. her heroes are - She got this from Julian Casablancas of The Strokes!
They are great artists and writers but I think their best work comes from their inner psychology and poetry not politics. Nihilism or self pity. For example: six feet under , ocean eyes and bury a friend. Very emotional and psychological through the music not just the words. Music should aim to overcome hardships and turn dark into light. I'm not saying depressing songs aren't good but it will be better if there is some hope in it. Just my opinion, not a hater. Great videos.
@@user-rv7ge1tc4l yeah, it's alright to do once in a while but kids are trying to escape this dreary world right now..not be reminded of it. All great art is escapism. The best songs are a blend of dark and light..like dancing in the dark by Bruce Springsteen. It starts as a relatable, dark song but it has hope towards the end. Billie and Finneas are just stating what everyone already knows.
Those lyrics aren’t carefully thought out to me, they’re just dumb and political. Yay, another rich Hollywood type preaching to us. So amazing. Must worship.
except it's NOT genius...because she is comparing the trial to roe v wade, implying that roe v wade is far more important....and that the trial is, well, whatever....when in all actuality, both are pertaining to women's rights. the right to speak out against domestic violence is very important, and people have been sweeping what johnny did under the carpet.
1- the life of famous people/celebrities shouldn't interest ANYONE because NONE OF YOU KNOWS AND WILL EVER KNOW THE TRUTH, both were toxic to each other , Johnny too has always been a toxic person, he drank a lot, he always arrived drunk even at important events, he couldn't even stand up and that was even before he met her .. in one video you could see that he was also violent, he had problems controlling his anger Etc so both not only shouldn't care what they do because it's NONE of our business, but both have been harmful.. and both have their faults for verbal and physical violence there and for having alcohol/drugs abuse Etc mentally problems bc both wasn’t stable 2- Bille didn't write that line to say that one topic was more important than another, but to tell what was happening in that week .. like a storyteller of that day she wrote it where everything was going on .. the chaos.. for human rights 2- regardless of the arguments, politics and what really happens in politics with modification of the laws and therefore the interruption of the rights of a whole category of people is MORE IMPORTANT than a domestic violence case between 2 celebrities that you KNOW NOTHING, IT’S NOT YOUR JOB TO JUDGE THEIR LIFE.. BUT THE JUDGE IN COURT BECAUSE YOU ARE NOBODY, YOU ARE NOT THEM AND YOU KNOW NOTHING… the important things are what REALLY happen in politics and on the laws not in court between 2 psychopathic alcoholics who behaved like animals to each other. People like you are toxic and you need a LIFE. THINK ABOUT YOUR LIFE! We don’t know and we will NEVER know anything about other people life, you are NOT God.
