I saw Dave outside of a restaurant one time, chasing his daughter around a fountain, laughing with her, picking her up, and living completely in the moment. Yes, he's a rock god, but it was obvious that before that, he was a great dad. I would love to meet him sometime, but I never considered interrupting him while he was with his family.
Well, I hope Dave sees this, I am certain he would appreciate your thoughtfulness at not interrupting his private life. If he does I hope he'll send you a message to say thanks, he is a Good bloke.
That's the best. I happened to grow up around a very famous baseball player and he came to my Grandpa's funeral and people asked for photos while he was sitting next to a grieving family. The world needs more people like you.
Dave is really down to earth and joyful, but this guys made a GREAT INTERVIEW JOB. Not interrupting, flowing with the answers, making cleaver jokes (and not too many), avoiding stupid and recurrent topics (Cobain's life and death for instance). Excellent in every aspect.
Hung out with him and FF as a teenager in their RV outside an MTV thing over 25 yrs ago- they were exactly the same off camera, and way back then. Just normal fucking dudes hanging out, offering some star struck kids the snacks in their van and asking what we were learning in school and shit.
@@DannyBloomfieldBK……. To freaking cool , I hung out with Greg Allman back in the late 80’s for a few hours at first I was star struck within an hour it was like I was just hanging out with someone that I went through high school with……. He was just great and so generous with his time……
Good music is good music, the race part is irrelevant to that. That's why even when racism was more than common, you had all those white kids listening in to music by black people. If it's good, people will listen!
I think it speaks volumes that Dave has been in the music industry - and in the public eye - for over 30 years and has never had any huge scandals or controversy or bad allegations against him. That kind of impeccable track record can't just be luck and circumstance. I really believe he's a good guy.
I'm a massive Foo Fighter fan aka Dave Grohl fan. So, when I can't sleep, I'll just pop down the RU-vid rabbit hole. I know that I can't watch a concert because there's no way in hell that I'll even get a nap. But, I love to watch interviews, biographies, and historical shit. The one consistent thing that I've heard about Dave is that he's the nicest guy in rock and roll. Over and over and over again, I've even looked for bad things that Dave has ever done and you get NOTHING! The only thing that I hope and pray for, is that if he still smokes cigarettes, please stop. I don't want anything to happen to him or anyone in the band, especially if it's something that he can control. Just listen to Jon Bon Jovi, whether you're a fan or not, listen to him a few years ago and listen to him today. I know he had surgery on his throat, not sure why, nodules maybe, but smoking for years didn't help.
Letterman was right saying Desus and Mero are the future of talk shows. None of the current late night talk shows could have such an interview so casual to get such natural insights from their guests.
Kinda dope that Letterman closed last episode with the Foo Fighters playing "Everlong" and now Desus and Mero have Dave Grohl on after getting Letterman's cosign.
You should also check out the Graham Norton Show if you haven't already! He's a quick witted and funny Irishman that gets guests to say the best/craziest stories, and he actually lets them talk, unlike the mainstream American late night show hosts.
@@boomertsfx1 I don't think AP Leith is going to thank you for showing him your superior grammar skills. It's not like you translated some ancient script to us; so give a guy a break.
Him, and Keanu, have always had a special place in my heart. I find it very fitting that they referred to Dave, as Keanu, in the beginning of the video. They are both really good guys with enormous hearts. They're very humble, easy going, kind, and giving men. They both take the time to be there for others, and they try to help people. They do not do it for recognition, or publicity. They truly help out of the goodness of their hearts. Earlier this year, Dave took his smoker to a homeless shelter, and spent over 24 hours cooking, and feeding, everyone. Back in 2018, when California was engulfed in wildfires (yet again) he barbecued for the firefighters. He gave a fan his pair of orthopedic shoes when he saw her on crutches. My favorite Dave moment was when he saw a blind boy at one of his shows. He bought the boy, and the boys dad, on stage and let the boy play on his guitar...I feel the list of good deeds is endless. Keanu Reeves is also an amazing human. He gave his stunt team, from the Matrix, Harleys. He gave Rolex watches to the people he worked with on the set of John Wick. When he heard a crew member, on one of his films, was having money trouble, he gave him a $20,000 Christmas bonus. He regularly rides the subway and will give up his seat to others (elderly, pregnant women, disabled people, etc...). He sat with a homeless man before, and talked with him for hours, because the man just needed someone to talk to. He donated over 70% of hold matrix salary to cancer research. He's done so much more too. Both men have also donated millions upon millions to various charities.
No bullshit, the Little Richard story HAS TO BE true! I met him in 1987 and sure enough, he was in the back of a limo - rolled down the back window half way and was like, "God bless you - so nice to meet you!"
I was standing on a street corner in Memphis. I'm waiting for a black SVU to go through the intersection so I can cross. The driver's window was rolled down and I was staring at Little Richard! I froze because the way he was driving so slow, I thought he was going to stop and say something. I was in shock, I didn't even wave. He was driving!
Dave Grohl is the Forrest Gump of rock n roll. Everyone loves the guy. He’s done more shit and met more legends than you can imagine, but he’s still a down to earth guy that doesn’t know he’s big fuckin rock star. He’s just DAVE!
The Melvins, Mudhoney, Soundgarden and about every other musician from Seattle that knew Dave before Nevermind all tell the same story about Dave Grohl cutting all ties with them post-Foo Fighters, because Mr. Rock Star Grohl is too important to talk to the peons anymore. So, yeah, there's a pretty large contingent of musicians who don't have anything nice to say about Dave Grohl.
@Marvin Smith just because they played shows together back in the day doesn't necessarily mean they were ever actually friends. Maybe he didn't have any sort of obglition to them.
Dave is the ultimate Everyman. One of those rare people who becomes wildly successful but never ever stops being as excited about what he does as when he dreamed about doing it. His greatness is something everyone can aspire to because rather than seeing his own greatness he seems to always approach everyone else with the attitude of "Oh my god I'm having such a great time. Want to come along?" His joyful passion about music and life in general is contagious. I hope he is able to keep rocking for decades to come. The world is a better place because Dave Grohl is in it.
Can we just pause and admire how easy it was for him to come out with a killer beat just by snapping, slapping his leg and tapping his foot at 10:34. I know people are going to be like, "well duh! He's a musician" but come on! That was so off the cuff and he wasn't even paying attention to what he was doing. Love it.
@@julianowen7377 I know right. Something I would plan and practice ahead before showcasing in front of others and he just flows it out…like musical butter 🤣
Dave is one of the few people who I've honestly never heard a bad word spoken about. He's just one of the most genuine people around, it's amazing how grounded he still is after all he's done.
I met Little Richard once too in the Memphis airport. He was sitting and surrounded by bodyguards and I walked up to them and the body guards said he wasn't talking to anyone right now. He reached out from behind his guards to shake my hand and I shook his hand and he said "God bless you". He's the coolest. It's better than getting blessed by the pope.
thought said blessed by the pipe at first , thought gonna turn into crack smoking with little richard story, but my 8th grade education has that affect on me sometimes , and yes i quit school to be full time crack head , didnt pan out for me , seams need alot of money to be full time crack head . would of stayed in school if i would of known that ! system still failed me
@@orangutanxremix510 what a ray of sunshine. Addiction’s a disease, not a sin. Kids’ brains get hooked harder because they’re still developing, and kids are inexperienced enough to think they can do it just once. I'm black...39 and went to see them in Saint Louis earlier this year....the foo are in my top 5 greatest bands of all time. Dave grohl is the most human and chill rockstar ever
Bang on. What you said about being 'human' is what stands out most to me. There are a lot of bands I like more tbh (though I love some Foo Fighter songs) but few musicians that seem better humans than Grohl.
Finally giving Little Richard the respect he deserves. For being the one that paved the way for rock n roll. Dave you truly rock on the stage and off the stage.🤘
What do you mean finally? He's always been the undisputed guy that started it all. I could see an argument for Chuck Berry. But I think most people give the distinction of the inventor of modern rock to Richard.
I love when he tells a story he's nonchalant and not boasting. But honestly, his entire life is a flex, and I love how he knows, and jokes about it in a non douche bag way.
He also does so much for his community, cooking massive meals for the firefighters that are out there battling the wildfires, donating his time and money, doing USO trip…they don’t make them like him anymore, he will go down as a legend. A classic.
@@jacobkramer42 sounds like you probably suck. Must be hard to be below average and hate one of the all time greatest bands and just group of men, in general. If you can’t see that Dave Grohl is a good and decent person, man, you might should seek help! 🤷🏻♀️
He really has everything sorted out mentally- grounded, humble, talented, chrisma and super social and therefore is able to enjoy everything in life as a cool legend!
Did you see the video with him and the band when he brought the 8 year old girl on to play the drums? Probably the coolest story of the year. She's an incredible drummer and she made a video challenging him to a drum off and then she ended up in stage with one of her idols. And it wasn't a charity case or him being nice because she played that part as good as Dave does.
@@thisisisabella3634 yes she’s def a prodigy. I’ve watched some of her videos. A little 🧨 on those drums! I love it when she can’t contain herself & just yells while she’s playing
He’s got a really solid, supportive mom. Dave wasn’t doing drugs or alcohol back in the “Grunge” days, as so many were. Still doesnt. I think if you come from a supportive positive loving upbringing, odds are you’ll wind up more like Dave than poor Kurt. Dave’s a really decent guy too.
@@dshepherd107 He has said in interviews that he watched too many of his friends go down the drug & alcohol path & didn't want that, shows strength of character.
Dave is totally Northern Virginia. I’m a bit older but grew up only about 5 miles away. He’s like the regular people I grew up with. Down to earth and just wants to have a good time. It’s what I love about the Foo Fighters. Was supposed to see them in May. Really glad I ran across your channel. You all are fun and funny. It’s been a week since Taylor died, and the first day I could listen to Foo Fighters without crying. Thank you for the smiles. I look forward to more.
He seems like the guy you'd be starstruck by until he starts talking to you. He's disarming like an old friend you just reconnected with after decades.
As a guy who works in the live music industry and has seen iconic musicians getting together for the first time to just have fun jamming during soundcheck...let me tell you...those are the greatest musical performances I've ever seen in my life.
Are you having a laugh. I love him to bits but he does not have a strong voice. He can't hold any notes live. Just sings as hard as he can (which is essentially a shout) and runs around trying to get people excited. Loads of the great melodies on the records just get hacked up live (or sung by the audience alone)
I always wondered why they keep playing in small venues when they can sell out a stadium. I caught a show in August at a small venue in Oklahoma. I see why. It's so much more intimate in a smaller crowd. Great show.
I wasn't aware of these two hosts, but after watching this and how friendly the atmosphere they have, how respectful and engaged they were with Dave - truly makes this interview so much more magical than the vanilla late night shows. Plus, the fact they can swear this allowing Dave to be more Dave really boosts this, great job and I'll absolutely be checking out your other videos. Subscribed 😊
I really feel compelled to compliment DESUS and MERO on their interviewing. They know how to usher the guest towards interesting information about themselves, and how to participate in the guest's story direction. You two gentlemen should give lessons to most of TV's talk show hosts. GREAT JOB ALL THREE OF YOU!
I thought it was great that Dave had two tables right in front of him and instead of putting his Water Bottle on one of the Tables he sat it on the floor next to him, It's a habit as a drummer that's hard to break, because it's just muscle memory. I still catch myself doing it from time to time, and I haven't played Drums in years. Kudos to a great interview with Dave Grohl, he has always got great stories to tell =)
These two are insanely talented interviewers! First time seeing them and nothing said was cringe worthy. Just plain fun chatting. Loved it from start to finish! Awesome!
I could sit and listen to Dave tell stories for 10 hours and still be 100% into it. I was there back in the day when he first joined Nirvana and had even heard of his previous bands Scream and Dain Bramage. Dude has been a great story teller his whole life, although he was definitely much more shy back in the late 80s / early 90s.
Everyone doesn’t realize how versatile Dave ghrol is. If you google or read the liner notes of some albums (rap, r&b, alternative, pop, etc), grohl was drumming.
I did security for a Foo Fighters show that was a "fan club only" thing, back in 2008 at the Troubadour (they called it the "Foobadour" for that gig) in LA, & he told the funniest stories on stage. I'm not a fan of his music, but, I like him as a person. He's cool AF, & this interview just proves it.
I know exactly what show you're talking about!! I didn't get in but I stayed the entire time outside and got to meet him + the band after the show. Most epic night of my teenage life.
That one sound guy went home to tell everyone about how he was the only one who saw Prince and Dave Grohl play "Whole Lotta Love" and everyone was probably like "yeah right Carl, stfu you liar"
I remember this story about a dude who worked in the desert in Nevada in the early 80s, swore he saw a flying triangle one night, no one believed him. About a decade later he saw that triangle on the TV dropping bombs over Iraq, they called it a B-2. Carl will get his recognition, I trust the karma.
The best part is when Dave says "I'll call Barry". Everyone laughs, but everyone knows Dave can just call Barry. That's when you know you've got the world by the balls.
Filmed Dave at a festival thing & he hung out at the after party until 6am taking pictures with the crew & drinking the bar out of tequila, he is a prince
Usually because your heros normally dont live up to your hopes if how they really are..dave on the other hand is better..kinder..humbler than one would think he would be...makes one want to be a better person.
Actually, I got into Dave Grohl back in 2002 because of QOTSA's Song for the Deaf, then I gradually made my way to Foo Fighters. To this day, I'm not into Nirvana, not that I dislike the band- it's just that I discovered Jane's Addiction first. Just saying.
The thing I love about Dave is that he really hasn’t forgotten what it’s like to be that kid (or adult) who is obsessed with music and just wants to play with their heroes. Even though he’s now one of those heroes, he hasn’t forgotten what it’s like to be a regular person. I think that’s one of the reasons why people love him so much.
I'm lowkey sad that I only stumbled on you guys just now. This interview was so fun, felt organic, and I need more of it. Definitely looking for more from you guys.
We really do love you, Dave. Nirvana and Foo Fighters were a part of so many of my bus rides to junior high and high school and still to this day on my radio...
This is true. I rocked with Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, and Them Crooked Vultures because of Dave. Might not be of the GOAT drummers, but absolutely one of the GOAT rock stars of the last 30 years. Cool as shit.
Awesome interview format - natural captivating flow with no cringe or yawns. Grohl is awesome. An amazing drummer and rhythm guitarist/vocalist/songwriter. He is so positive and just a beautiful soul.
Right I feel it......I idolized all the 90s guys like Kurt and Bradley Nowell and Layne Staley and ended up a heroin addict before I was even done with high school......now I admire John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers who was in as dark a place as one can imagine and did insane amounts of drugs and yet survived and became a stronger person in every way who doesn't glamorize that kind of shit. And guys like Dave who endured all of that surrounding them but stayed strong and stayed true to themselves.
@@presinald personally I was never under the impression they glorified it (excluding Bradley because I only know one sublime song ) but it's a good feeling when you realize you can't relate to them anymore. Still love nirvana and Alice in chains tho, both were some of the first bands that got me into music.
@@user-kk2dw1eh5q the way I worded it was kinda wonky, I don't think those guys glorified it either but both past and present has had many a musician who has and I hate that shit. I like good rap music but all these SoundCloud idiots telling teens to take counterfeit Xanax in the middle of the whole fentanyl situation is just despicable. Many an AIC song is about the misery of addiction and the Sublime song "Pool Shark" ends "one day I'm gonna lose the war". I know Layne and I'm almost positive Kurt as well did interviews saying that they don't want to glorify it at all and Layne was pretty brutally honest about the realities of heroin addiction. I still love those three bands too but I'm no longer that naive angsty teen who idolized them and wanted to do the things that they did. It's so damn tragic though how many people drugs have taken way too soon, before they even had a chance to get to the light at the end of the tunnel.
Dude Dave is a legend for his music and for being an awesome guy. You can't deny the charisma of a guy who can come onto a show and barely has to be asked questions and can take over with entertaining conversation, but still include everyone somehow. What a Chad of epic proportions man.
I love hearing Dave speak about his life as a musician. For someone so talented (master of multiple instruments, singer, song writer) whenever he speaks he’s so humble. He speaks like he’s a friend of yours, so relatable.
