Few RU-vidrs actually know blame exist let alone make the effort to put a video out of it. You could have simply made a dumb reaction video and won subs. Massive respect . U got my sub
I wish more channels or critics or even fans of Blame had explained the intricacies of Blame as well as you did here or else I would've checked it out years ago. I never knew how dope it is, it's on my reading list now
To be honest your description of human is an accurate description of what we are now! We upload our memories (photos) and share them through devices, back up our data, people who practice intermittent fasting and regular fasting barely eat, and walk for years on treadmills!😅
Volume 1 is very complicated to read because it includes both stories that take place at the beginning of the story and at the end of the story and not in an understandable sense, some are totally unattributable to a specific moment in the story. "the characters all look alike" yes, that's normal, mangaka like to recycle. "the child of the beginning is the child of the sphere" yes it is, it's the meaning of the dialogue in the oav where cibo says they've already met and which corresponds to chapter 1, the beginning of volume 1 is the continuation of the end of volume 6. In an interview Nihei said that he didn't like happy endings, the end of volume 6 is a happy end, but the real end of the beginning of volume 1 is not a happy end, but it's an end with a partial resolution, the mission has been accomplished but not in such a way as to completely take over the system, however with the child's genes Cibo will manage to develop devices, that's the meaning of the story of netsphere engineer. Funfact 1: in the logic of this plot, the dog can only be the recreational AI that the version of Cibo in the end of volume 6 met, being the last human and the AI no longer having a mission, it would be logical to consider that the dog, which is a pet dog endowed with strangely human behavior, is this recreational AI that served as companions to the humans of the netsphere and was downloaded into this canine corp to serve the last human alive.
ehhh it's more so the author didn't have things fully fleshed out and just made a mistake with that chapter. just like in Gurren Laggan, the creators made a mistake with the opening of simon fighting wars and changed their mind about the series after, but since the episode had already aired they just moved on and still told the story they wanted to say.
Im so glad to see that others found out this gem of a story and artist. I love how the fact that it has no clear timeline (besides the other works like knights and bio. I love how you can jump in eitherone of them and then just be immersed into the world. I started off woth blame since it was the first one that i came across before i knew they dooo have an order if u wanna learn more about the lore. I loved every single pannel. Genuinely mind blowing how even one image can say so much. Truly nihei tsutomu is one of the greatest underdogs in the world of artists that solely devote themselves to creating meaningful world through sheer scale and details alone with little to no text. Also loved your video :) Edit: i believe that its 100% clear (putting aside the fact that its not factual) that killy and the protagonist of knights and biomega are the same person. In the sense of how the protag of knights was a clone of some other super cool and kind hearted dude, killy could might as well be his clone. I havent read biomega yet but from what ive seen the end of knights leads on the idea that they stay on said planet, while biomega takes place on a planetary world. Ive also came to this conclusion thanks to a video about this whole story portrayed over the span of aeons. Not just the names that are similar but their atributes and roles are identical to the ones from the other stories. They are qctually connected to each other, and since nihei choses to show stories over the span of thousands and millions of years we can be pretty sure that at least killy is the predecessor of the protag from knights. Its not just the facial features but the way he acts, even tho in blame killy seems rather cold. The way he is so methodical, calculated and serious really reminds me of the protagonist of knights when he was in those really dire situations, not caring for himself, simply trying to protect or accomplish what he had to accomplish. Im not so sure if cibo or any other characters are 100% related to their counterparts in the other stories, but since they always talk about cloning, swapping minds, and other super sci fi things that utterly kill the concept of death, they might as well be related in one way or another, of course those that are part machine or whatever the hell guardians are. Also biomega is about the birth of silicon life, thus the reason why i believe its the second entry of this world while blame is the 3rd and knights is obviously the first, not to mention the gravitational beam emmiter is the size of whatever number of kilometers they mention in knights, while killy is wielding one in his hand like its a walk in the park. All the events from my own understanding haplened over the span of at least maybe 10k years or more. Especially since blame already talks about the megastructure losing its "mind" 3k yrs ago, and killy already being on his journey since before that. This is why i love it, the world, it doesnt have a speciffic starting point, and even if it does its pointless now on the larger scale of things since its too late to go back. Sorry for the yap but i couldnt help it, i just wanted to express how lassionate this piece of holy art makes me feel, truly one of a kind
Toha Heavy Industries are also in most Tsutomu Nihei's work, hinting towards one universe. But there would be some inconsistencies, uchronias that is for certain.

I do like to discover more people who became fixated with this manga like myself. Tetsuo Nihei is a fantastic artist and his works are grossly underrated. They are visceral dives into perceptions about existence. I love his style, especially seeing it evolve as time progresses. He was an architect, and that shows in his art. That man and his infinite imagination influenced me more than I can say. I wish he wasn’t rushed to finish Aposym (is that the name?). Even so, his work is masterful. Truth be told, in the history of Blame!, the megastructure started out on earth and expanded to the moons orbit. At which point the humans lost control of the builders as the NTG were not as prevalent. Then, the city expanded. Beyond measure. That scale made me fall in love. It took me years to fully understand most of the concepts in the manga. I go back from time to time and still see stuff I never saw before. To sit and pick the mind of this man, what I wouldn’t give for the chance. In my mind, this was a masterpiece.
I'd like to point out some inconsistencies and misunderstandings. The 2003 OVA is more of a supplementary thing like a fan animation, im pretty sure nihei didn't have any input with it too. Volume 1 of the series is not where anything starts nor ends as the loop theory would say, id say its more of a filler or a Prologue to get you to dip your toes into the series. Because Nihei was actually suppose to end BLAME! there but he got good reception so was told by his publishers to continue the series thats why the story basically begins at Volume 2 when killy goes into the cluster. The time loop theory is also very inconsistent because there are 2 one-shot sequels that take place after the end: BLAME! 2 and NSE: Net Sphere Engineer where humans have successfully used the Net Terminal Gene to take control of the builders and disable the SafeGuard safety mechanisms, the administrators have also assigned Net Sphere Engineers with the task of destroying/disabling the last few Structure Conversion Towers still operational. Blame! 2 Follows the last silicon creature, a 5th generation iteration of PCELL who's tribe (the last one) was genocided by humans, because as stated in NSE the safeguard was no more, she journeys to the edge of the Megastructure only to be attacked by safeGuards. She then opens her eyes to Killy saving her and in the next moment he's gone and there are destoryed safeguards everywhere. She sprouts wings and goes in search of somewhere to start another silicon tribe away fromm the humans. And about provisional safeguards in the artbook BLAME! and so on there's an interview with Nihei with questions about Dhomochevsky and Iko. Nihei basically tries to explain that Dhomo and Iko are actual Artifical Inteligence. To to better combat the silicon creatures the administration created a rank of safeguard named provisional safeguards, in which they are given an entire human like personality hence artifical inteligence, they think think and act by themselves but still have a line of code in there for they're objectives. This basically let's them use that free will part to think and strategize in combat making them alot more effective which is why you see them being able to control the safeguards and use the structural conversion towers, they essentially work as combat commanders. Now in this interview Nihei mentioned Killy also being a provisional safeguard but Nihei made it clear that he was different, the explanation i can give is that Killy was probably the first generation but instead of actual AI they used an actual consciousness along with a line of code for the NTG which is why im more inclined to believe Killy is human but ofcourse now a cyborg who lost most of his memories due being 2000+ years old which i think greatly explains his humane acts towards humans and another thing i'd like to add is the Blame oneshot thats packaged in Noise could very well be connected as the human Killy who was a detective id say a good candidate for the role Killy has in BLAME! he also easily dealt with one of the silicon creature as a human so more of a reason for the administration to use his personality and so because of the events of Noise it's safe to say the administration made Cyborg Killy and registered him due to the events that were about to unfold. Of all the things you could say about this manga you chose to speak of danger of artificial intelligence It eludes me why, because if any statement could be concluded from this piece of art, it is that we did to ourselves and ever expanding city is a testament of our hollow ambitions It is stated in the manga that builders machines could be controlled by humans and the do not has digital analog of person’s cognitions, they are just like overbuffed ants, what could also be stated about safeguard
When it comes to pronunciation, according to Dami Lee (who, I dunno, seems to know what she's talking about), it's _BLAHM_ (like "ham") rather than _BLAYM_ (as in "name"). As for "manga"; I agree with you.
American popcorn brain mk 1 standard - B-grade movies are so fun that i want to see them live even if there not there in reality or possiblity. To ridiculous plot contrivance acceptance by the watchers may degrade our standards of objective reason so our judgment is lax and gullible with no next good thing to replace it we will use what the medium can provide to our detriment.
To get even more into to the world of blame and the megastructure I listen to subtle atmospheric music that fits the environment. When I did this it was like a movie experience but it also adds more emotion into it too!
It always stings me a tiny little insignificant bit how literally nobody will ever appreciate the difference and the mistranslation in Cydonia vs. Sidonia. Oh well.

In a manga that is so visual, that offers so little dialogue, I believe that the title becomes even more important. I don't think that its similarity to the sound of gun firing (blam) in the manga is a coincidence. I think that using weapons and therefore violence against somebody is a way of putting the blame on them. In that abomination of a world, where humans have almost completely become eradicated or turned into cyborgs, you cannot really blame anyone anymore (or can you?). Guns and weapons are used as symbol for that desperate need to still give someone or something the fault. It also shows how losing control of technology creates a hostile environment to humans - that we cannot give the same freedom to AI that we give to humans.
I really need to see that older blame anime. I’ve read it all and sadly seen that weird netflix adaption that looks like it was exported poorly (that frame rate!). I do think there is a common line between all of Nihei’s work. I’m not sure if that means Nagate is his ancestor, or something else. As more of Aposimz and Kaina come out this is still solid to me as I see those two as linked possibly (and Biomega??). But blame! Is still the most striking. It’s impacted French comics so damn much too, somehow.
My guess is that the character in Biomega also has the same genetic data, but I know that's a stretch. Lol. Also, during my research I found out how popular it was in France, something I had no idea of.
@@melena1705 The prequel is called NOiSE, there is also some hints in Blame! and so on. All from Tsutomu Nihei. But you're not far off, at some point he was a law enforcer about three thousand years ago or something.

@@melena1705 What you are referring to is Blame (Debut) made in 1995 an entry in the Four Seasons contest for Afternoon magazine, before he made the actual Blame! in 1997, I believe it can be found as extra in NOiSE, which the character is supposedly Killy, seeing how erratic the City is, it is most likely probable that's him
@@melena1705 yes there was a ´pilot´ manga he made for a competition, tho he stated later that this isn´t the killy from blame! he just happened to name the characters the same, its very likely tho that killy went through the same process as Susono from NOiSE and was transported into a ´proto-safeguard´ body or just his brain scanned to be used. most likely he was part of some police force before.

I enjoyed your interpretation of the manga, for me this manga is absolute masterpiece when it comes to non-verbal, visual storytelling. Also you constantly complaining about manga being pronounced as manga rather than menga seemed unnecessary tbh.
However your language matrix pronounces it, it doesn't matter; It is still understandable. The nuances of pronunciation do not hinder comprehension, as the meaning remains clear.
not to totally shit on your fantastical views of AI will destroy us all, but i have no mouth and i must scream, and blame! are likely not how AI will destroy us. The true danger of AI isn't hostility, but rather the hospitality it brings. As AI creates more and more convivences for us it will slowly rob us of what makes us human. It will strip away people's ambition, why learn how to create anything art, music, even a home. why learn these things when an AI can do it better and faster then you ever could; even if you spent your whole life. The kinds of generations raised in this environment will not see the value in trying to do anything, entropy will come for us all, and we will die a slow dreary death not an AI fueled nuclear war.
